After seeing the replays, I am almost in as much disbelief that Dempsey didn't finish it on that set piece as I am with Wondo. His first touch was pathetic and even then all he had to do was put it a little to the right and he had a goal. Instead he kicked it right at the keeper

I know, seriously. I'm actually more mad about the Dempsey miss at this point. On the Wondo miss, the linesman's flag was up, and, while Wondo was CLEARLY not offside, who knows if the ref would have overruled the linesman or not. We don't really know what would have happened. Also, Wondo said he saw the linesman's flag go up; maybe that distracted him.

But yeah, Dempsey, what was up with that heavy first touch? Just dead legs maybe? I don't know but that cannot have been the same guy who niftily cut up the Ghana defense to score our first goal of the tourney.

I have not posted on this game because I wanted some time to reflect. I agree, I was sad by our inability to close that game out like we should have. I really felt we could have won that game. This is why you don't give good team more time, because the quality of depth will show eventually and that is what I think we are missing. We aren't able to pull a Schweinsteiger and Klose off the bench. My lord would I love that. The Lukaku sub was epic. Masterful piece of coaching and a real difference maker.

All I can say is that it was awesome watching that last 15 minutes of extra time. So proud of the guys. I don't care what anyone says, I have nothing but love for these guys. The whole world saw what they did and it is showing. I have seen several tweets from prominent worldwide enthusiasts and pundits and they all watched our effort and applauded it and say they wished their country team and fans showed like we did. That says a lot to me.

Looking forward to the Gold Cup and the Confederations Cup as well.

Also, I recommend joining a AO branch if you have not already. I had a great experience with that and met a ton of people I would not normally have. Our chapter had 10 people in it last year. Now it is a full chapter (#92 Holy City AO) and growing everyday.

Interesting points on DP this morning about making soccer 'American'... noting "Real Salt Lake" and pitch and kit...

MLS names are mostly 'amercian' anyway so i didn't get that one... hello, Portland Timbers... but I agree on the kit and pitch stuff...

I like to think I got on the soccer fan thing way before it was ever cool to do so and I often roll my eyes at all these hipsters correcting people in favor of Brittish terms

for me, it's always been a soccer jersey and field...

Right, that stuff drives me crazy.

Real Salt Lake? What the fuck is that? "Real" means royal, doesn't it? Do we have a king in this country? I don't mind D.C. United (D.C. is the capital of the United States of America, after all) but what is up with Toronto "F.C." and the other "F.C." MLS teams stuff? These are not European-style sports "clubs." They are American sports franchises and part of a professional sports league. The F.C. is just inaccurate. It has always driven me nuts.

And yeah, for me it has always been a jersey and a field. No reason we need to use British terminology. I also don't call cookies "biscuits."

I'm not a Stephen Colbert (the character) wacko hyperpatriotic American, I swear.

“Chivas USA” looks absolutely hilarious in retrospect, a clear attempt to cater to one demographic and it completely failed… if they were smart they’d just move the team or have Orlando and NYC absorb it…

It's funny watching a Galaxy game from Home Depot center and the stands are full... then the next weekend, same stadium and all, with about half the normal stands covered over with Chivas stuff as though no one knows there are seats there normally and the seats that ARE available are more than half empty still...

They actually market themselves as "The Rojos Blanco" out here... Going back to the 'let's Americanize this thing'... Right or wrong, you lose tons of would be fans right there...

Their on-field product was pretty good there for a while with Preki at coach and Klejistan there. After that though, they royally suck.

I am a fan of what Portland and Seattle have going on. I would love to go see a game at Portland.

Chivas got bought back by MLS and they are getting a whole new look/name possibly even city in the years to come from what I have read.

Massive agreement... I love the Northwest games... anytime Portland is playing at GW I watch... hoping Portland can turn it around in the second half...

Also, if I were to actually go with the Euro style with anything it would be this... make the reg season a major title and have the MLS Cup be a nice little FA Cup like bonus... that's one thing the Euros do better than we do imo.

Right. The new owner will "re-brand" them. It'll be interesting to see what the new brand will be.

Totally agree. Playoffs cheapen the regular season. One thing I love about the Euro game is that, somewhat like college football in the U.S., the regular season MATTERS from day one.

It will never happen, but I would get rid of playoffs in every sport. They are exciting, but they provide an incentive to ignore the game for all or most of the regular season.

They could move them to the middle of nowhere Wyoming and name them the "butt munchers" and it would be an improvement...

Agree on all of this... it's sad teh average American is happy about cfb going in the wrong direction imo... and everything from baseball on has been watered down due to the postseason.

These are awesome. Other professional leagues could learn a lot from these guys.

Lol. There are lots of this going around. Such win.

Also I am seeing the Besler and Zusi are seeing increased attention from foreign clubs confirmed by SKC head honcho. Basically said EPL and Bundesliga.

Just bumped the everything soccer thread with an article from the KC star. Would love to see Besler in Bundesliga. I saw Serie A also speculated.

Thank you for sharing! I hope Colombia plays their best game tomorrow.

Your welcome, I'm glad you enjoyed it. Moves me to tears almost every time.

This is my favorite 30 for 30 by far. Colombia's keeper was nuts in every sense of the word, be it the scorpion kick in goal or helping Pablo Escobar with some stuff haha.

Agreed, its so well done and the story itself is just fascinating.

I don't know if it's been mentioned, but apparently Anderlecht, Roma, and Inter all have interest in Yedlin. He's about to blow up like crazy. Sounders and MLS are gonna get paid.

There is also a chance our 2016 Olympic team has players from Liverpool, Bayern Munich, Dortmund, and Arsenal.

Jurgen said that we are bringing in youth and focusing on '91s to '99s. We will see if they also play in the Gold Cup. I expect Beasley, Jones, Dempsey, Howard, Beckerman, and Wondo to be phased out slowly. Guys like Luis Gil, Will Trapp, Shane O'Neill, Paul Arriola, Joe Gyau, Junior Flores, Erik Palmer-Brown, Jordan Morris, Josh Perez, Harry Shipp, Cody Cropper, and Marc Pelosi will be brought in soon.
