We broke them, they may lose every game now

I was thinking about that right after the game. It was apparent to me that they had put a lot of time into game planning. When you have the entire winter, spring and summer to think about opening against ND and then get beat 41-13, we may have broke them.

USC - probable loss but USC on the road in late Oct so who knows

I think chances they pick up a win at UCLA, vs USC, or Minnesota are much greater than dropping any game I have listed as a win.

I suspect their top acquisitions were the CB from ASU, QB from ODU, RB from ISU and Coleman the WR. They also had to pay more to keep their two stud LB who starred as true freshmen last year. I’ll bet a Ben Franklin 5-7 gets him fired despite being a one game improvement, don’t forget how easier their schedule is this year vs last.

5-7 he is gone. 7-5 he will be able to point to improvement even with a easy schedule.

I think Chesney is a better coach than Fickell, his team has more talent, and UCLA won't have to travel two time zones to the east.

I kinda think Knapp could be our best interior OL since Nelson. The fact that he held down a tackle spot for two years when he is naturally a guard speaks to his talent (and drive), and now we have good enough tackles that he can play his best position. It will help the running game, too.

For sure. He reminds me a lot of Zack Martin. Kinda built the same and have similar demeanors on teh field - he just systematically beats the shit out of anyone you put in front of him.

I think ND fans are looking for validation of having championship level hopes and looking for wire to wire blowout wins as a result. In truth, the pattern of championship contention teams pulling away in the second half against lesser teams is incredibly common and is a positive indicator. We should be satisfied with this win.

I also second the poster (I forget who it was) that noted that having a clunkier first half may payoff as a coaching tool for the overall season.

Its a product of being in primetime with only 1 other game on. Everyone saw an even first half, whereas if this game happened in the middle of the season, people would have seen the final score and just been like "wow what a statement win by ND"

If louisville and ole miss weren’t playing defense that set football back 40 years during our game, the story would be different. Shit. If we played Rice first and scored 60, then played wisconsin, the narrative would be different

I am not sure UCLA has more talent than Wisconsin but they had a decent win in week 1 so I will wait and see.

Fickell's tenure at Wisconsin has been a disaster but I do think he is a pretty good coach overall, just one that is pretty dependent on the strength of his coordinators.

Months of expectations and then the football was actually played, but it didn't live up to certain people's expectations of whatever they felt it was supposed to have looked like. I never felt like ND wasn't in control of the game. Even at halftime. As soon as they came out and scored on that first drive, I thought to myself "Wisconsin is going to have problems now with this QB".

Everyone consumes sports differently I guess. Fill the void with endless discussion and analyzation.

I never felt like it was gonna be a close game but I can't stand our play calling at the beginning of games early in the season. Nothing but dive plays up the middle and very quick passes or screens with a loaded box. I know they will open things up like they did in the 2nd half but would love to see them just open things up right out of the gate

Safety on the rights drops straight instead of to the right is C3, middle of the field closed so he throws the dig. He should have thrown the post to Greathouse if they dropped in to C2. Awkward drop by that safety so yeah I could see how he could have torched him with a perfectly timed ball but it wouldn’t have been the read. It might even be C3 to the wide side and C2 to the short side but either way I assume he’s reading that deep middle safety.

Also interesting they had the TE at boundary there. Premer time soon

I get the broadcaster impulse to make games seem feel more competitive than they are, but there was a point in the first quarter where Garrett actually said Wisconsin was "dominating in all three aspects of the game" and I was trying to figure if he was watching the same game I was.
At no time could Wisconsin put together a sustained drive, and you knew we eventually would figure it out on offense. Beyond that... they had a nice punt and a partial block of one of ours. So yes perhaps beat us on special teams in the first half.
