- Not really over concerned with Carr or the Denbrock passing game calls in the 1H. Got pinned deep multiple times or started behind the sticks due to the run game or penalties.

- I just don’t get the Greathouse - Carr thing. Faison still the GOAT.

- I’m willing to wait on an OL review from a specialist. First half the IZ and Power stuff was just not working versus a heavy Wisconsin DL. RBs also ran it like power and were just barreling ahead with zero vision. 2H you saw some pistol, some OZ and think it really helped both parties. Pass Pro mostly solid besides a few wins by Cheeks who is a solid edge rusher.

- thought everyone on D was elite against the run all things considered.

- really nothing notable about Ash which is a good thing

- Secondary over aggressive a few times but I can live with overly aggressive over the opposite.

1. Defense generally looked great, would’ve liked to see some more pressure up front.

2. O line pretty disappointing on run block but end of game was promising.

3. RB room downgrade was under appreciated heading into season. These guys are fine but the drop off is astronomical.

4. Was hoping for a WR to emerge as a vertical threat. Don’t recall anyone getting behind coverage all game…

5. Great to have a real kicker!

6. I think Wisconsin will be pretty good by the end of the year.

Choppy first half with very weird energy. Wisconsin had more juice the first 30 minutes, but we weathered that storm. Second half the switch flipped and we asserted control and authority.

Fickell wanted to see if the gap had closed, it has not.

OL and DL stepped up big time in the second half which allowed the run game to get loose. We didn't run all over the field like we had grown accustomed to the past few years, but we got the job done.

Carr looked a little over geeked the first half, but settled in. I think he will be NYC by the end of the year and will go top 5 in the draft.

I'm glad we decided to iron out the wrinkles after two quarters this season as opposed to two and a half games last year.

Doubt is in the eye of the beholder, but I saw enough tonight to feel like we are really, really good. It wasn't perfect, but the goal isn't to peak in September. If we continue our four year pattern of getting better each week through November, well, we'll be sitting pretty after game 12. You can't win it all in Game 1, but you want to see the seeds that blossom into growth, they're there.

On to Rice.

Go Irish.

We won by a good margin.

Slow start like many have mentioned.

Glad to see the 2nd half adjustments

Hopefully the injuries are minor.

I'm going to give the Irish some leeway (just a bit) on the first half.

1. The holding call in the 2nd Qtr against Knapp was BS and that literally tore down the 2 minute drill - could have something come out of it????
2. The punt that literally walked the goal line out of bounds is a '1 in a million shot'.... at the 10-8 yard line, it was headed strait for the touch line before it went sideways.
3. First game jitters, OLine took the first half to gel before some holes finally opened up in the second half.

Clearly though, was hoping to see more out of Greathouse but, I am pleasantly surprised with the TE execution. Thought that position was going to be questionable.

Considering it's the first game, I'll absolutely take it. Nothing perfect but solid at pretty much every position. It's nice to finally have some depth when key guys are out. We still need to be stronger at the point of attack. Maybe I'm still stuck in the 80's when Lou's OL would blow defenses off the field. Do we finally have a kicker? Let's hope so. I think the biggest weakness of the team is a dominant receiving unit. They're good but not great. A lot of fast, athletic freaks which is something we haven't always had. Freeman has really built up a nice roster and I think they can win a title if all the dominoes fall in our direction.

I just checked and he watched the game. He’s a good follow for OL nerds. Geoff Schwartz is another one, but he doesn’t normally break down ND games like Tengwall has.

Hats off to Wisconsin- they played their hearts out in the first half. We didn't panic and we wore them out with our superior talent and depth

If I had to do one big positive, after all of the college football I watched this week, this defense might be the best tackling defense in the nation.

The "thing" is that I don't think Carr has ever thrown to him.
I’ll have to rewatch, but I think Greathouse got put in the dog house with the terrible block effort on an early bubble screen. Not sure how much run he really got tonight after that.

Regarding Tae Johnson..

Boot on with no crutches makes me think it’s minor. And the fact the medical staff felt it was okay for him to walk to the locker room with no assistance also makes me feel better.

This is my semi professional opinion
