Surprised they gave Mcdavid the C and not Mackinnon or anyone else really. Mcdavid doesn't seem very captain worthy

I think it's hard not to give it to him when he's having the best statistical performance of any player (any nation) in Olympic hockey since professionals started participating. 13 points through his first 5 games, after he scored the OT winner at 4-Nations to beat the Americans back in Boston.

I wouldn't have blinked if they gave it to MacKinnon or even Doughty, but McDavid is playing so well it's hard not to give it to him.

The C normally goes to someone that the team respects and has leadership abilities. The C isn't for stats and power plays goals

You might want to work under the assumption you’re the only person on the planet who thinks he isn’t worthy of the C.

Is he a captain kinda guy? I guess if he isn't, the players would naturally turn to someone else anyway and it wouldn't matter

The only thing remotely driving this narrative is that he's taken his NHL team to back-to-back Stanley Cup Finals (a 7 game series and 6 game series) and has come up short twice vs very good Florida Panthers squads. Had he captained his team to either of those Cups he would be seen as not only the best player in the world, but he would be credited as an elite leader as well... Like Crosby before him, who is in the process of passing the torch and Gretzky before Crosby, who passed the torch as well.

The game winning goal at the 4-Nations and the points lead at the Olympics don't matter to some, because Crosby (when healthy) still wears the C on this team... For the record, neither do the 7 All Star nominations, 5 Art Ross Trophies, 3 Hart Trophies, 4 Ted Lindsay Awards, 1 Conn Smythe Award and 1 Rocket Richard Award, all by the age of 28 years old. The only thing that matters to some is that he hasn't won the Stanley Cup as team captain... Therefore, he doesn't have the necessary leadership qualities.

Stone would have been another better Captain option. You never see mcdavid leading or rallying the team. Draisaitl shows more fire on the oilers.

What's up with NBC having world class Oshie partnered up with Canada's version of Mark May during coverage

Canada has successfully cheated their way to the Gold Medal in Men's Curling beating Great Britain. The Canadian Women did not cheat as successfully as the Men's Team, and had to settle for a Bronze Medal win over the Americans.

Well done lads! And ladies... Cheat harder next time. Ain't nobody got time for a Bronze Medal...

He absolutely is,… he’s shown his ability to lead and is a tremendous player. He’s not the type of leader that goes out there and drops the physical hammer but neither were Gretz or Mario,… or Sid for that matter.

It’s the same with Mijo, everyone questions him being captain of team USA,…. I’m sure they both care a whole lot about all that noise,….

Maybe for a team like the oilers, but not the candycane national team

Mark Stone
Sidney Crosby
Brady Tkachuk
Kopitar
Jordan Staal
Brady Tkatchuk has been in the NHL for 8 years and has led his team to the playoffs a total of 1 time during that stretch, a series in which Ottawa got beat soundly (4-2) by Toronto... They're highly unlikely to make the playoffs, again, this year, under his leadership.

Daniel Alfredsson was a far more successful captain in Ottawa. Brady still has lots of opportunity, but he's done absolutely nothing of note there.

Damn Tkatchuk should be drafting and coaching the team better. Are you new to hockey?

Evidently not. Ottawa has actually had some decent teams on paper since Brady has been there. They've simply been unable to put it together in any meaningful way in what has proven to be a tough East.

Somebody asking if "I'm new to hockey" when they're supporting the idea that Brady Tkatchuk is somehow better Captain material than Connor McDavid, without a single reference point to back it up other than vibes... That tells me all I need to know.

The reality is that I really like Brady Tkatchuk's style of play, but the dude has led his team to the playoffs once in eight years and got stomped when they got there. During his eight years in the NHL he hasn't won a single individual awsrd either, so it's not simply a case of his team lacking success. In the same stretch that McDavid has led his team to two Stanley Cup Finals appearances, he's also cleaned up among individual awards.

Hell, even Team USA didn't give Brady a letter. Matthews wears the C and Big Brother Matthew and Charlie McAvoy wear the A's.

I don’t know shit about hockey but know that I’ll be tuned in tomorrow morning. USA!!
I hope millions are tuned in across the USA. Regardless of the outcome it will significantly serve to grow the game. Hockey's exposure is essentially maxed out in places like Canada, Russia, Finland and Sweden, but still has plenty of room for growth in the USA, Germany, France and Britain. We want as many people playing as possible for the health of the game! It's been 46 years since USA has won a Gold Medal in hockey and 16 years since you've won a Medal at all. It would be a tremendous success for your country to get over the hump tomorrow morning!

Josh Morrissey confirmed out for Canada tomorrow. Sidney Crosby is a game time decision with what appears to be a knee sprain. Apparently he practiced with the team today, but no idea to what extent.

Tage Thompson practiced today and appears to be on track to play for Team USA tomorrow. Otherwise, you guys appears healthy and ready to go.
