Will Ferrell hit a cheerleader in the face with a basketball and was then dragged out of the arena by security during Wednesday night's Pelicans-Lakers game.

But don't expect the actor to face any charges.

The incident was of course staged, part of a film shoot that took place during halftime at the Smoothie King Center in New Orleans.

Ferrell's character was reportedly attempting a half-court shot with the cheerleaders lined up alongside him. Instead of aiming for the basket, he fired the ball directly into the face of one of the girls, according to Sports Illustrated.

The scene is for the upcoming film, "Daddy's Home," which also stars Mark Wahlberg, Linda Cardellini and Hannibal Buress, according to IMDB.

It was a foam ball of some kind. He got it from a guy standing behind him right before he threw it. That ball was never bounced before he threw it and after it hit her it took a really odd bounce. Definitely not a basketball is all I can tell you.

I agree that you don't hit women. But this is a movie scene with a softer ball, not Will Ferrell getting caught abusing a woman. Your blood shedding would be unwarranted lol.

I thought they were just shooting a scene for a movie during halftime of an NBA game. Since the movie probably won't be out for a year I doubt they were trying to make some viral adverting campaign but I could be wrong.
