Something has to give....or someone has to give up an scholly....either way....
IMHO taking a Mabry and Dirksen and have them sit for 4 years ala Byrne isn't the kindest action to take.
let them go play in the MAC, where they can be 3 year starters
do you watch games?

Until one of them is Zack Martin and we kick ourselves...
Goodness, a couple good wins and all of a sudden "we want bama", and now we are bama.
Interesting you say that because it's clear that the staff in its new configuration is planning an overhaul of this roster. So often SEC teams would blatantly recruit right over players they no longer wanted on the roster and the following year So Miss, Troy and UAB had a bumper crop of transfers. ND's recruiting way more LB's, safeties & WR's than they have open slots for at each position. I'll be shocked if a WOPO gets a surprise scholarship next year.
Zack martin? More like Anthony Munoz....these two guys are real pro bowl HOF 3 stars.
My point is over the past few years...real legitimate 4 stars sit. Taking 3 stars at the oline position seems like a wasted scholly. But maybe things have changed....I am just spitballin.
Guys like Bivin and Bryne and even Hoge didn't have a role...and if NDP and god willing Mays commit, these two will be practice players for the duration, especially with Eichenberg, Kraemer, Hainsy, Lugg, Banks, having 3-4 years of eligibility left.
Sweet position to be in for ND and HH, so it allows ND to be super choosy

They are losing 4 of their 13 scholarship players off the current roster. Add to that P-Money and Hoge transferring, that's 6-15 you are replacing this cycle. To top it off, you lose a Sr. Scout team WOPO in Sam Bush unless he sticks around for grad work. ND only has 3 WOPO's at OL to help with practice depth.
They need at least 3 this cycle and it's ok if two of them are depth guys for 4 year. They also need a couple PWO's like Travis Spreen from OR who visited. Gotta have three lines for practice.
You see this as a way for ND to stay competitive and therefore go the route most football factories go with overhauling their rosters and plucking the bad crops to plant fresh new ones?

But the staff isn't preparing to take all of the players on the board. It's all going to depend on who wants in and when. We aren't taking 1 LB, 2 WR's, 2 OL, 4 DB's, 1 DE, for example.
The board looks vast, and spots look few, that is the perfect spot to be in. Not because we are taking them all.

We have what 6 or 7 spots left? I think 1 WR, 1 OL and 4 DB's. Could be two OL if it's NPF and Mays. Think the LB's on the board are all long shots at best.
This is basically my point.
Worrying about roster attrition at this time seems pointless. Let's land the 1 LB, add the 2 Wr's, the 2 OL, the 4 DB's, and then we can worry about it.
Since we more than likely won't be, not sure it's worth it spending this much time on who is going to transfer.
SMH at the people who are talking about pulling scholarships for players that are already committed to us. This is Notre Dame, not Alabama or Ohio State; we hold ourselves to a much higher standard than that.
As far as Tillery goes, I do think that he could go to the after this year and be successful. The guys is playing out of his mind up to this point in the season. Do I want him to come back? Absolutely. And I think his stock could increase even higher. All I'm saying is that Tillery could be successful in the NFL if he does decide to leave after this year.
Now one's worrying or complaining about it that I've seen. It's speculation and it's fun.
Are you expecting 27 commits? That's what you'll have if you get your wishlist above.
Personally, speculation on transfers or who we'd "push" out is poor form.
It's not a wishlist, it was illustrating the point that it's ridiculous to "speculate" on transfers when there is a lot that has to happen first.
ND wouldn't push a guy out. They would say, "We are going in a different direction than the guys who brought you in, you're not a fit for the new system. If you are looking for playing time, it won't be here. Of course, the scholarship is your's for 4 years as long as you bust azz on the scout team."
And there is nothing poor form about speculating who those players might be. ND changed schemes and staff. This was expected and talked about last Dec-Jan-Feb.
With analysts calling for 24-25 player class, I know for a fact the staff already knows some guys are leaving.
That's your opinion, mine differs. Especially since we are not even in the position where it matters yet. Talk about putting the cart before the horse. Will this be relevant? At some point, yes. Is it now, absolutely not, or even close.
We are roughly 2 months away from the early signing period. This only starts to become relevant then.
Based on potential, Tillery is probably anywhere from a 1st-4th rounder. Based on current ability, he's maybe late 2nd rounder-7th rounder. So it's a total crap shoot. He's probably better off staying in school.
Again though, I think his adjustment to the pro game will be difficult, on and off the field. And again, he's probably better off staying in school.
Mike at ISD thinks Tillery is a 2nd round pick this year. Point is, he's a day 2-er.
