Honestly, I don't think they will get a big name/top tier head coach without baggage. Nor do they want a long-time assistant with no experience as a head coach. Coaches with an established reputation can pick and choose their next coaching position to ensure their success. They won't be going to a school that needs to rebuild their program. They want a team loaded with talent that's ready to win right now. Michigan is not that team.

Michigan needs someone who can rebuild the program, a good tier-two head coach with a proven track record who can repeat that success by recruiting and developing talent over a three to five year period at a tier one level.

If they are serious about restoring their reputation, they will need someone prepared to clean house. Someone like Navy's head coach, Ken Niumatalolo, who wins 50% of his games against teams having far more talent. Someone who will cut ties with players like Lewan and Gibbons before they destroy the integrity of the football program and the university.

Or they can opt for a Jimbo Fischer or Urban Meyer-like clone, who will win at all costs and establish the University of Michigan as a breeding ground for the next generation of criminal-athletes.

Probably would have been Kelly if he was still at Cincy when RRod got fired.

Probably not. when they were hiring a replacement for Carr, BK was ruled out pretty quickly, he was thought as being too full of himself for the gig.

There really aren't any right now. The coaching carousel of the last few years has cleaned out the lower levels of quality talent. I think their only option is to break the bank for a big name, which is likely the only way to keep the fan base happy, too. Rich Rod and Hoke were, in some respects, "good tier-two head coaches" who got their first big shot at UM.

Someone who will cut ties with players like Lewan and Gibbons before they destroy the integrity of the football program and the university.

Since when has UM had integrity?

Or they can opt for a Jimbo Fischer or Urban Meyer-like clone, who will win at all costs and establish the University of Michigan as a breeding ground for the next generation of criminal-athletes.

I don't think their collective self-image will allow that. Even though it's completely hypocritical, the "Michigan Way" is going to be an albatross around UM's neck as they search for Hoke's replacement.

So BK got passed over for being over-qualified for the UM job?

Press Conference at 130 to discuss AD's future.

He's done, per sources.

Yup, Hoke was already living on borrowed time. With Brandon out of the way, his fate is sealed.

So maybe he brings Diaco as coach?

Hoke will be be gone the night they get blown out by OSU and his successor probably in place the day after. UM won't wait around on this one like they did when they hired Rich Rod.

He's got a pricey buyout if fired before January. You don't think they'll wait?

I wonder if firing their last two coaches before they'd been around for four whole years will negatively impact their coaching search? I sure as sh*t hope so.

i think they will can him asap and then expect the replacement to join straight away even if his previous team was headed to a playoff/major bowl game. When RR was hired they wanted Miles and he was happy to join after LSU's bowl game (BCS game?) and they told him they could not wait.

If they were smart they would go after Jim McElwain Colorado St. Head coach.

Of the lower level guys one name that was mentioned was Butch Jones. If they do get the AD from OU then I would venture to guess that Bob Stoops' name will be dragged about. They could also go after a pro coach.

Would Butch Jones really leave for Michigan though? I know he's from Michigan but still. Right now being the in the SEC is the best place to coach. Sure it's tough but look at Ole Miss and Miss. St, all it takes is one magical year. As long as you win the SEC you are guaranteed almost to play for the title, whereas winning the B1G might not be enough. A 1 loss B1G champ could be left in the cold. Miss St. this year could follow 2011 Alabama's path and not even win their division and still make the playoffs. The Southland is recruit rich.

I just think Jones will look at the state of Michigan football, the state of the B1G and just try to rebuild the formerly great program in a down period that he is already at. Urban Meyer already had the thought of "well the B1G is easy to win" and it's burned him twice now. He could very well be 36-2 by the end of the year at OSU with f**k all to show for it.

I mentioned him because of a story that was run a little while ago and it mentioned how Butch Jones is regarded amongst the coaching circles as a good coach.

That's a good point. There aren't any Utah Urban Meyers' or Cincy BK's out there waiting for their shot. Michigan will likely be stuck going after an also ran, or a coordinator looking at their first HC gig. That can go right but it goes wrong so many times (Charlie Weis, Will Muschamp) when their first gig is a big time university.

Also Michigan is likely to be competing against Florida for a HC this off season and I'd imagine that job will draw more interest than Michigan.

I didn't mean to imply that you were behind that idea, I was just kind of thinking out loud.

They did pass out 12-0 rings... so kinda of like a door prize.
