Talking with Loy directly, I'll say he + Steve were more right than wrong. They probably had the most accurate reporting throughout the saga in the sense that ultimately the ND coaches have not "officially" accepted his commitment because the test scores came in low.
However, I reconfirmed that the announcement didn't blindside the coaches, so the initial reporting was questionable on that front. That doesn't change.
It's all about how you want to count "verbals." The staff loves him, and he's 100% verbally committed to ND. However, the staff has told him he's not part of the class until he gets academics squared away. So he's as "committed" as you can get without... you know... being committed. Strange situation. But ultimately everyone is saying the same thing... if he gets his academics in order, he's part of the class -- if he doesn't, then he won't be.
After talking with Loy, I get where he's coming from and I'm inclined to agree that if his verbal hasn't been "accepted" then he shouldn't be listed with those who have. But it's half dozen of one, and six of another.
