I'm constricted mentally to pay attention to numbers, but it seems Kelly is forced to be as well, so I'm in good company. Let's say that the comment which has been floated that we're only able to take 18-20 commitments this class is correct. We have thirteen. Let's say Mahone and Jones commit. Fifteen. Let's say Peat and one other elite tackle commit [ex. Banner]. Seventeen. If we're on the low end of 18-20, that leaves one spot. One of the Marshalls? DGB? Odenigbo? Agholor? Spence? Some DB? We need to recognize that not everyone's coming even if they want to.

When Jones and the tackles fill up the lines, and Mahone gives us one good RB, where exactly is/are the greatest holes? ARE there any REAL holes left, or are we just left taking the "best player available in the door"? Even if the real number this year is 20, do we not save spots for DGB and one of the Marshalls if they decide to board the train late? I would not be surprised to see Kelly take commitments from Mahone, Jones, Peat, Banner [or similar tackle], and ONE other player [giving us 18], and then "sit" on the other two scholarships with very big fish in mind.

With Terry's news that Heggie has made an apparently successful transition to the offensive line, perhaps we have need for only one more tackle. If that is true, surely Kelly is saying the exact thing to Andrus Peat right now that he said to Sheldon Day.

I got a message tonight that there's a running back in the near term picture.

I'd identify the source but I've never met him. Nice guy that's had a good track record in the past. And no, I don't subscribe to any recruiting services.

It wouldn't suprise me (no this isn't a scoop, at least it shouldn't be) that the Day Decision ("only one seat left" ) and the resulting schutout should influence some prospects who've taken a look at the scholarship chart to grab a seat before the music stops.

I've heard same.

That's an interesting point. Just my opinion, but I think we only take one more OL. I think we definitely get 2 RB's, one more DB, one more WR, one more DL, and one more LB. That there would put us at 20, which would be about the limit. And I think most of us agree 2 RB's, plus another DL, WR, and OL are musts. So going with the minimum there would put us at 18. But I do think another DB and LB will be signed (bringing it back up to 20). The only guys I see us "holding a spot" for would be DGB, Shaq, and Spence. And it's highly doubtful we get all 3 (I would love it, just doubt it...but you never know). So I think the writing on the wall is getting clearer that this will be a 21 or 22 man class.

But again...who knows! Haha

If Mahone commits first and Brandon Marshall wants to commit during his visit does the staff tell him he cannot commit, in the thinking that we can still get Keith Marshall? My logic of thinking is that we take all three, but with what happened to Schutt I was just wondering what would happen at the runningback position.

It's never safe to count on players like K. Marshall and DGB. If B. Marshall and Mahone want in, we take them and rejoice. If K. Marshall wants in later, we give him a 2012 5Y's spot.

If Byron Marshall wants to commit we will take him unless there are already two RBs on board. He is a total stud. But I think that recruitment is going to play out pretty long (as should that of Keivarae Russel and Keith Marshall) because of all of the people in on him.

With that being said, I thought Tommy Schutt was safe because he was the only NG with an offer... so who knows.

For those of you saying there's going to be a RB commit soon, are you thinking a matter of days, weeks, or maybe a month? Reason I ask is recently read elsewhere that Mahone is thinking of making his next visit (the one where he meets Coach Kelly) an official visit (perhaps S. Florida), which presumably means his commitment wouldn't come until then. But then again, with B. Marshall visiting later this month and what happened to Schutt, maybe he'll move more quickly ....

Diaco was recently seen on a recruiting mission to Atlantis. He told linebacking prospects there that they would be allowed to sack USC quarterbacks.

I thought he was safe because he is a 4* D-lineman. I guess we are starting to feel more confident in our 5th years.

I think we would take K. Marshall on NSD because RB and DB, not DLine, was the focus of this year's class. That's where Kelly thinks we are desperate for depth (because we are).

I think we take two running backs this year (hopefully Mahone and B. Marshall). With that being said, if by some miracle K. Marshall wants to commit towards the end of the year, then we take him of course and figure out the numbers later.

I think our remaining spots come down to Mahone, B. Marshall, a slot WR, one or two more OL, Jarron Jones, Ifeadi, and Darboh. Then if any other elite guys such as Spence, K. Marshall, Agholor, Shaq, etc. want to jump on board, the staff will make room. This is just my opinion.

So, after landing Jones today, who do you think is next? Since Thomas might push his OV back some, I am thinking it could possibly be Mahone. Maybe that kid from the '13 class with the ton of visits.

Would have guessed Ian Thomas if he hadn't rescheduled. It could end up being Ian Thomas anyway, unless William Mahone commits sometime between his visit and mid-October.

We might have to wait for the USC game for the next few commitments. Unless we fail miserably on the field, I expect several.

Way to screw us, now we are getting no one.
