We're in the mix with Banner but certainly don't have any sort of inside track. We will need some really big developments to make up ground there. Diamond I'd say we're squarely in the mix for but there's not a great chance we're ahead of Michigan at this point. Stanley is going to remain an anomaly until he visits (if he ever does).

I do agree that as things continue to shake out we might find ourselves moving into better and better shape for one of these guys... but right now I don't think I'd say we have a "better" chance with any of them because we don't really have a good (>50%) chance with any.

Getting Kiel I'd think increases our chances with Banner. Aren't they friends or something like that?

Cox is imo going to end up with Michigan St, Michigan, or Ohio st, after the debacle at Penn St...if we land kiel anthing is possible in regards to how this class ends up, especially on the offensive side of the ball.

Both Darboh and Thomas are going to be on OVs this weekend, correct? I know for sure Darboh is.

I think Payton goes to Michigan and one of Darboh/Thomas is the next to commit to ND. People should also remember that either Darboh or Thomas could play safety. It's not highly likely, but it's certainly possible for Darboh and I really think Ian Thomas has the build/skills to do it as well. Then after that we get a Gunner Kiel commitment and go full steam ahead to fill out the rest of the spots in our class. In the end I think we end up taking 6 in this order.

1. Darboh OR Thomas
2. Kiel
3. Demetrius Cox
4. Dami Ayoola
5. Ken Ekanem OR Ifeadi Odenigbo
6. Nelson Agholor OR leftover of Darboh/Thomas OR a random OL we're on the outside looking in at right now.

In that order.

Still holding to this although maybe Gunner will pop first before a WR.

I couldn't find a senior highlight film for Dami, if one exists yet, but his junior film makes me think, "what are we waiting on." I like his attitude and skill set.

Higher rated prospects.

Both Marshall and Russell plan on deciding next month. A commit from Ayoola could hurt their chances with both.

I'm thinking Marshall to Georgia, Russell to Washington, and Ayoola to Notre Dame.

My wish-lists are always out-of-synch with everyone else's so they must also be out-of-synch with reality. When I look at what we have [on team and verbaled] , I say we have three great WR prospects --- we don't need more. We have three great D-Line prospects [I refuse to see Okwara as a OLB] --- we don't need more. We have five fine DB prospects [some at the highest level] plus Badger coming --- we don't need more.

What DO we need? My old saw: O-Line. I think we need two more but I'm resigned to one. [ due to getting up to the five number last class]. I think that we probably DO need one more RB. And we need two mobile linebackers at least [given the paucity of choice out there, one may be the best we can do].

Let's say one O-Line, one RB, one OLB. that would get us to 18 commits. Who are the last three? Kiel? This new TE people say we'll flip? If so, that loads the offense everywhere. So, one last defensive player? A desperate shot at an OLB, or just the best player available? That would make 21 recruits this year. 1QB, 2RB, 3WR, 3OL, 1TE, 1LS --- 3DE/NT, 5DB+Badger, 1OLB, 1Mystery man.

When you put names to those numbers, it looks awfully potent. Still I would really like Odenigbo and one other speed linebacker.

OMM,

IMO, we don't need more CBs, Safeties, or WRs because of the numbers or quality of this recruiting class. We need them because, in all reality, we need at least one freshman to contribute immediately on the depth chart for those three positions if we want 2012 to be a good season.

This requires over-stocking at "skill" because there is no guarantee that stars or rating equal immediate impact. The odds of "hitting" once with the two top 10 and a top 20 CB is better than hitting with just 2 of those kids. We got Massa, Hendrix, and Reese in the hopes that one of them would contribute immediately. It turns out that one of the 3-star guys, not the four star guy, was most prepared.

You are not out of line with everyone's opinion insofar as we all agree that we need at least one more OL and one more RB. But getting just 3 OLmen this year or 1 true RB this year would not have too much impact on 2012 and could be mitigated down the road.

This is how I kind of see the class finishing, which I think is possible:

1) Kiel
2) Payton (I love the work ethic and the family's ND passion, Darboh is also possible)
3) McNamara (Just like Gunner, don't pass up this kind of talent if he really wants to be here)
4) Obendijo (or, perhaps, Ekanam)
5) Rios or Poole (I love the idea of an EE here)
6) Any Tier 1 OT (Gunner will turn the tide here)
7) Ayoola (or another good RB)
8) Agholor or Neal (icing on the cake- Gunner helps here too)
---
9) Another DLman???-- that would make 24.

I think the class will look like this because I think that how the commitments come in will determine who gets a spot. For example, McNamara is a great player who I love to have, but if he waits until the last minute I think he might lose his shot considering that we have good depth at that position. As the cycle goes on, scholarships will start to come at the expense of 5th years and whether we can afford to lose a senio O or D lineman is a big question.

If Kiel holds out and, say, Armistead or Agholor committed next out of the blue, a lot would change.

He is at home doing bicep curls. Between heavy breaths, you can hear a slight *hhhunnnneeer*.... I dont know what he is trying to say, but I think he knows something.

I would like the staff to offer McNamara and Rios to get two kids to pop. Brings a little recruiting momentum going into last two months and something for guys like Gunner and Kieth to think about before their decisions.

Last year: only two commitments in the Thanksgiving to Xmas period [Golson; McDaniel]. This is plowing the fields time for the staff, and heavy meditation time for the remaining recruits.

And heavy medication time for those that follow recruiting. Hoping for Rios or one of the Neal, Agholor, Athlete bunch. Looking for some positive momentum.
