Who Are Your 4?

It better not expand to only 6, giving 2 teams a bye. Incredibly fair disadvantage when the difference between 1-2-3-4 is almost nothing.

And isn't this stupid 4-team thing locked in for like 12 years? Could be wrong but I thought I heard that. IDK how that works or if they're allowed to expand it.

6 would be perfect 8 just devalues the regular season. Michigan State doesn't deserve a chance at a championship.

I understand being frustrated with the specific rankings, but I don't understand why people are so negative about a 4-team playoff. It seems far superior to me. Without it, we'd have FSU and Alabama. Oregon wouldn't have a shot, which would be bogus, IMO.

That said, I'd like 6 or 8.

But if I were a FSU fan, I'd be irate that I have to play and potentially lose another game than Oregon. There's no difference in who deserves the bye in that scenario IMO. In fact FSU should be ahead of Oregon IMO. It's a massive advantage and cuts your chance of winning it all in more than half, whereas the team that you're arguably better than sits out that week.

Well if you are undefeated you should be #1. Florida State would be #1 in my system.

What sucks is, outside of the BIG 12, nobody gives a shit that Baylor/TCU are left out. I wish it was OSU left out because then there'd be more push nationally towards an 8-team playoff. ROLL TIDE!

I would just play Navy week 1. We don't need to join a conference because this will expand to 6 or 8 teams very soon.

If it goes to 8, I can see them making the conference champs automatic qualifiers (if that's allowed) which means we'll only have a shot at the 3 at-large spots.

That's fine. If we go 11-1 or better we will be in every time.

Agree, the Big 10 would have flipped out if they were left out. I think the biggest reason TCU and Baylor were left out is because they are TCU and Baylor.

Yeah, but that's not a big deal because those 5 conference champs would very likely be taking up 5 spots anyways, you know? Conference champs are very likely to be in the 'top 8' anyway.

It's time for some scheduling changes at ND. We need to join the ACC and drop Navy.

Let's the neg reps fly.

Or get rid of all the stupid difficult home-and-homes to load up on more easy/less travel intensive games.

True, although two SEC teams would be a staple.

Do you think that plays an effect on player's nutrition and health, because we do travel as much or if not more than an NFL team.

Yep. 11-1 Texas/OU aren't getting left out.

ND does not travel 8 times a season. If there was ever a year when travel would have messed with the team it was 2012 when we played Navy in Ireland and @Oklahoma. I thought it was going to be a huge issue for the team, but apparently it was not. I think spending some time on the road can help bring a team together.

I feel like the BIG12 trying to split the championship really hurt both teams. Made it too easy for the committee to just have them cancel each other out. Had they just applied the tiebreaker they already have in place, there's a good chance Baylor would be in.

Playing on the road is great. No distractions. Sleep, eat, practice, eat, play.

But when we travel its not regional. This year we were in Arizona, California, Florida, Balitmore, and Indy. Baltimore to Arizona was done in one week. If you compare that to the Bus rides that occur in-conference play I'm just curious. But the travel is what makes ND so likeable.

Yea, I see what you're saying and I think there's probably pros and cons to it. In a vacuum, I don't think travel's a big deal, but when you add to it the fact that ND's players actually do school it makes sense that it might have a negative impact.

Agree with you man.

Concerning Navy, a promise is a promise. I think when you play Navy is a big factor. This year, was the worse possible time we could have played them. Play them early in the season, and let the guys recuperate from it.

I wouldn't mind joining the ACC. Schedule is already filled with ACC teams anyways. It's looking more and more like this playoff thing will migrate to 8 teams and where conference champions will be automatically in. That would be 8 conference games plus USC, Stanford, and Navy and some other team. I could easily live with that. The ACC already have some of our traditional rivals anyways. Only way we can get into the playoffs on a regular basis if you ask me.

If we did i wondr what division they would put us in? And if they could get another team to come with us.

You are assuming that.

You don't think an 11-1 ND team would make an 8 team playoff?

8 team yes but not 4 team.

the discussion was based on 8 teams

I think they would need to do somewhat of a re-alignment. Jack would most likely deal that to our advantage. I'm sure the ACC would more than love to accommodate ND in order to get us in.

Some team from the AAC would fit the bill.
