So this was a pretty exciting E3. Nothing blew my mind, but I am super impressed by No mans sky. If that game can live up to the hype.... holy shit the possibilities of what the player can do seems ridiculous.

I was also thorough impressed with the new Doom, For Honor, and the Drug Cartel Ghost Recon game. I expected Fall Out 4 to look amazing, and it lived up to it.

The one game i found myself underwhelmed with was Star Wars Battlefront. I guess I just was too in love with SWBF2, and thats affecting my view of this new installment. Someone convince me i shouldnt worry.

The newest trailer, showing the online play at the Hoth base, got me even more pumped up, simply because it appears that you CAN pilot an ATAT. I thought that was something they had said they were leaving out. The dogfight between the tie fighter and the rebel ship through the canyon also looked fantastic.

The actual gun-play looks average, and the task interface ("Establish the uplink!") looks kind of sloppy, and the power-ups seem kind of basic ("Orbital strike!"), but overall it could look less impressive at this point.

I'm sold, but it's not hard to impress me with shooters anymore because I don't play them often.

They didn't even touch on CODZ or Red Dead did they? And they only showed one quick vid for FIFA... Couldn't be more disappointed about the complete lack of info this year... Unless I missed entire huge portions NOTHING they shared with the exception of Star Wars interested me at all.

Well a new video did just come out on FIFA but it's a 12 minute piece that covered everything we already knew... I want to know what they added to manager mode...

Finally picked up a PS4 /w Last of Us. Only got to play it one night, but it seems like a decent game, love the beginning to it. I also picked up Payday 2 Crimewave Edition, it was only $37 on preorder which is an excellent price given it has almost all of the updates from Payday 2 over the last few years crammed in at that price.

Payday 2 is an excellent game to play with buddies. It's a Heist game for up to 4 people to be played over the net (No split screen unfortunately). You do bank robberies, convenience stores, cook Meth, take contract work like wiping out a rival drug cartel, do coke deals, etc. Most of the missions can be done using stealth, if you're patient and skilled, but if not you can always "go loud" and wipe out waves and wave of armed cops while trying to achieve an objective as a team.

For me Payday 2 has been everything I hoped GTA Online Heists would have been but hasn't lived up to. Payday 2 doesn't suffer from nearly as many connection issues as GTA Online Heists. The weapons have all the customization that GTA has and then some (There's about 30 different melee weapons, 4 Machine Guns, several shotguns, 4 Sniper Rifles including a badass 50 cal, and a couple dozen Assault Rifles). The thing that keeps bringing me back to Payday 2 is the replay factor and the character skills. As you complete Heists you gain XP which can be divided between 5 different Skill Trees. Each tree has a different kind of skill set to go with it: Enforcer deals with shotguns and heavy armor. Ghost deals with Stealth and speed. Technician deals with specialized weapons like Sentry Guns, Trip Mines, and better drills for breaking into Bank Vaults and such. Mastermind deals with Pistols, converting enemies to fight for you, and general skills that hep the entire team. Finally, the newest tree Fugitive deals in some unique features like dual wielding pistols, light armor builds for speed, and basically being a glass cannon for damage purposes. You can put all your points in one tree, or you can spread them out among many different trees if you like, it gets fun playing around with different builds to see what you like and don't like. Once you reach level 100 you can go "Infamy" which will take away some of the cash you've amassed and it resets you back to Level 0 so you can work towards regaining your levels. There's currently 25 possible Infamy levels on PC and 5 levels on consoles I think (Will be updated for Next Gen soon)

I originally started playing Payday 2 a year or two ago on PC through Steam which is probably the best place to play it as the Overkill team seems to do a better job of updating the PC quicker than the consoles. Not only that, but I find shooters to be much easier when you're lining up headshots with a mouse instead of a controller. I ended up having to switch over to consoles though as I got my buddies interested in the game and some of them don't have gaming PCs...lame!

Downloaded and played a trial of Elite: Dangerous on XB1 last week.

<iframe width="560" height="315" src="https://www.youtube.com/embed/ISR4ebdGlOk" frameborder="0" allowfullscreen></iframe>

The trial only allows you to do some training runs, and the training doesn't actually help you learn the controls in any way, so it took me about 30 minutes of messing around to learn how to fully control my personal ship... but once I got it, I appreciated it right away.

You're a first-person pilot, and the ship interface is beautiful as you check gauges, look at navigation and cargo menus, deploy weapons ("hard points"), and so on.

The ship has controls for acceleration, reversing, flying horizontally up and down without moving forward/backward, deploying your hard points to access your primary/secondary weaponry. You can toggle the ship's power to balance the effectiveness of weapons, shields, engines, and systems; give your weapons/shields a bit more juice during combat but sacrifice top speed, or juice up your engines and sacrifice your defensive capabilities.

You can initiate a jump to one of the billions of actual star systems that are included in the game, but the trial doesn't allow the jump drive or whatever they call it to be activated.

I was very impressed and will probably pick up the full game. I'm curious to try the open world and to see how interactions are with other players.

Have been playing Ultimate General Gettysburg... pretty fun and the historical accuracy is pretty good for a video game. I just wish it were the entire war and not just one battle.

I'm waiting, and waiting, and waiting, like a damn kid for Christmas for any news on FIFA 16 and if they added ANYTHING I've been wanting... freakin EA

Great post, thanks for showing that game, Lion. I've been hooked on space shooters since TIE Fighter, always looking for something new. I enjoy flying around in space and upgrading parts/ships, making tweaks here and there to load outs. I've been missing a twitch based space combat game since Star Wars Galaxies went down a few years ago. A lot of former pilots from SWG have picked early access to Star Citizen, but the game is still awhile away from a full release. So, it looks like Elite is twitch based, as in it requires you to manually fly the ship, correct? It's not like EVE where you relay commands and the ship kind of flies itself, correct? Looks like it's already out on Steam, and that it'll have VR support when the Rift device is released next year.

Alien: Isolation dawgs:

<iframe width="560" height="315" src="https://www.youtube.com/embed/uqmlNjPWNXA" frameborder="0" allowfullscreen></iframe>

Among the scariest I've ever played. Totally nailed the feel of the movies, except the alien is pretty much immune to your guns.

Been burned on so many bad Alien games in the past. Aliens: Colonial Marines was released a few years ago and hyped, but turned out to be a stinker. IGN gave that one 4.5/10 stars, while it looks like Alien: Isolation garnered 5.9/10 stars. Dunno if that's enough of an improvement to buy.

That is correct. You are controlling the ship yourself. The way your on-screen self interacts with the controls and menus is fantastic, but you don't really have time to appreciate those things if you are flying at top speeds and/or in combat. When you are stopped in order to navigate/set a course or look through the menus is when the interface really shines.

You can pull up a navigation menu in your ship and select what star system to jump to, but even then you actually have to fly your ship and maintain a certain speed to successfully jump (from what I've read).

You can mine space materials, retrieve supplies, collect bounties, engage in battles, etc. to earn credit and upgrade your ship.

Here's a pretty good "let's play!" type of video that will show you what it actually looks like interacting with, navigating, and flying the personal craft. He also gives some background on the game starting off as a kickstarter project. Fast-forward to ~4:00 if you want to skip ahead to the ship leaving the dock and flying:

IGN's the most negative review out there----most are 9/10, things like that. I think that reviewer just had a bee up his butt or he's just jaded, idk. It's wayyyy better than anything since Aliens vs. Predator 2 (2001). I don't play a lot of games, mostly just sit down with an oldie when I have the time since I generally hate new games, but this one just sucked me in.

The only negative I can say about it was that it was very obviously built for consoles first, which means if you play it on PC you may notice some things. The controls are very obviously ported from a controller instead of remapped to be native for the keyboard, which can feel clunky since the controller is such a limited input device. Also, while I felt the graphics were gorgeous, I also believe they may have been hindered so consoles could run them. My evidence for this, besides the youtube videos from consoles lacking effects and stuttering, is that I was able to play on max settings with no hiccups on a year old laptop.

If I remember correctly I think saying most reviews were 9's is painting the reaction a bit too kindly. It was a very divisive game though. A ton of mainstream sites were very divided over it in scores (9s-5s) and even the indie guys varied wildly on whether they hated it or loved it. Zero Punctuation gave it a hearty recommendation which is completely unusual since he is the kind of guy who just shits on everything.

The thing is, the game's longer than your average FPS, so if you're the type who is trying to get it done so you can write an article, but you keep dying because you're impatient and that's making it stretch on, then that'll be reflected in your review. If you don't have a stack of free games a mile long and a deadline, you'll enjoy it a lot more. The game really punishes you for not respecting the Alien hunting you. You can't just rush along. He's faster than you and anticipates your movements.

Has anyone gotten into The Witcher 3? I'm debating if I want to get involved in this beast of a game.

I got Witcher 2 last year on a Steam discount and I really enjoyed it. Haven't played 3 yet, but I'll most likely pick it up when it enjoys a deep Steam discount again. Kids can really take a hit to your gaming budget

Ha I just bought FIFA 15 last week, so I didn't include that one for my own selfish purposes.

Ps4? If so and you want a free lesson (humiliation)... My name is the exact same on psn

Ah I wish. I'm on XB1. I still have little to no clue what I'm doing.

I can do the basics, like pass, cross, play a through ball, control my shot for finesse, etc., but I don't have any idea about alignments or actual strategy. It put me on semi-pro settings after the introduction game lol.

I don't have much interest in running a club, but I tried it and had no idea what to do in terms of scouting and whatnot.

I picked it up super cheap mainly to play with friends and maybe online here and there, but I need to get better before subjecting myself to the mercy of internet peoples.

Manager mode is by far the best "season to season" mode in any sports game now that NCAA is gone... Scouting is just unlocking other teams ratings.... Your youth scouting is where it's at... Thats like recruiting in ncaa,... Control the pace and midfield,.. Ariel through balls are the business, master those and go from there
