You can't lose or win if you don't play though. It does not matter. lol.
Exactly. "Undefeated" is the absence of failure. "Miss 100% of the shots..." is affirmative failure. The statement is NOT that you haven't made shots, which would be true. The statement is that you HAVE missed shots, which you haven't.

Acceptable statements: Absence of failure, absence of success
Logically incompatible: Affirmative failure, affirmative success

It's not about winning or losing, it's about being defeated.

They have not been defeated. It's because they haven't had a competition, but the fact remains that they are unbeaten.

Whereas you cannot make OR miss a shot that has not occurred.

You can't miss a shot if you don't take a shot. However, you don't have to play a game to say that you are unbeaten. Because you really haven't been beaten.
I don't get the difference. If you don't play a game you can not be victorious or otherwise. What is the difference between taking a shot and playing a game. Both are activities with outcomes that are either successful or unsuccessful.

By that logic, technically what you are saying is that the original saying could go "I still have not missed a shot because I have not taken one..." that is the opposite the original saying.

But both are the absence of success.

Action-Take a shot.
Make shot - positive
Miss shot - negative
No Action - neither occurs therefore neither can be claimed to be true.

Action - Play a game
Win game - positive
Lose game - negative
No action - neither occurs therefore neither can be claimed to be true.

The Irish had the absence of success Saturday. That really "Grinds My Gears".

I find that the people who use that quote are often the ones who should be taking less shots.

No they're not.

It is possible to not lose and not play at the same time. It is NOT possible to miss without shooting.

"Undefeated" is not a claim that you have won. It's simply a claim that you have not lost. "Miss" is only true if you try and fail. "Undefeated" is true whether you try and succeed or simply don't try in the first place.

The top part, yes.

The bottom part is not as concrete as the example of taking a shot. The absence of an opponent means you cannot be beaten, and thus you have not been defeated = Undefeated.

The absence of a shot means you can neither miss nor make it.

This image does nothing for me. Explain how you can play and not lose or win in the sense they are using it as describing american football.

That's not what I'm saying. I'm saying if you don't play you neither win nor lose. To be "defeated" requires you to lose. Thus, if you haven't played, you haven't lost, and are therefore undefeated.

You don't need to win to have zero losses but you do need to attempt a shot to have a miss.

Doesn't a school need to field an actual football team in order to be undefeated? How can you be undefeated if you don't have a team in play? The possibility of defeat doesn't even exist if there is no team that can theoretically experience defeat or victory.

Yeah let's circle back, great idea!

This isn't rocket science.

His school has never played a football game.

His school, therefore, has never lost a football game.

His school is undefeated in football.

They are also, however, winless.

Bob has never shot a basketball.

Bob has never missed a shot.

Bob has never made a shot.

However, since Bob has never shot a basketball, a % of made/missed can't be claimed.

No, No, No....

He literally sends out mass texts/facebook messages/any social media he can get his hands on to let the whole world know that Andele's is having a deal on Burritos. And sends other "deal of the day" things that are irrelevant to mostly everyone.

He hand delivers a newspaper to my father-in-law and will literally give him a brief summary of all the good stories he should read.

He literally "likes" every facebook post my wife and I post within seconds of posting.

He will ask to clear my dining area before I am even finished with my food.

If you suggest you might be looking for another job or a career in a certian field, you will get a non-stop barage of messages offering his thoughts on how this goal should be attained.

If you say you are going somewhere he will text you directions.

If you need anything, he always "knows a guy".

In the mood for pizza? He knows where the best pizza is in town and has a review for the top 5 choices........ and can tell you the phone number and how to get there.

He lives with his mom, he is a Dolphins fan, sings in his church choir, wears khakis (probably even to bed), and always waits 20 minutes after eating to get into the pool.

Sounds like a guy that works for me. There isn't anything in the world he doesn't know or isn't an expert at. Will always interject himself into a conversation. He's so annoying that if I'm discussing something with someone in my office, he will get up from his chair and come to my door to render his opinion.

For some reason this is the kind of guy I would picture Jared Fogle being.
Just sayin...

When people send in resumes and have zero work experience related to the job I have listed that calls for specific experience. The time I wasted looking over their resume I will never get back.
