If there was a hell, this would be part of it for me.
That stretch did suck. But this one...

This was my hell. It was almost my entire 20s, you know, the time when you're most rabid as a fan...we had to endure all those losses to Cheaty Petey. This is why I'm always pullin' for Tommy, ending the streak was an unbelievable relief.

ND football never recovered after David Gordon’s kick went through the uprights. Didn’t realize it at the time but that was the end of our run as an elite program.
Thanks for letting me relive that '93 BC upset, my first game

Can’t imagine, as it was brutal enough watching on TV.

That and Magic’s baby skyhook against the Celtics in ‘87 were two of the more painful moments of my life.

The correct answer is 1993, BC

I will put OSU as second. We are so due and it was there for the taking and didn't deliver in so many ways in the final 4 minutes.

The Bush push game was heartbreaking, but we also already had one loss and were already basically eliminated from the BCS.

It’s funny that this became a thread because one of the first texts I sent on Saturday night as I was grieving this loss was “Feels like the bush push game all over again”

This thread has the opportunity to expand past ND to our (I'm assuming) other teams we follow... we can all live in misery together listing our lowest points as sports fans lol

That said, let's go take care of business with Duke

2005 was a facade in my opinion. That team had some very good offensive talent but really didn't stack up against USC. This year we were the better team, should have won, and desperately needed to win this type of game after 2 decades of losing them. 2005 was more dramatic but this one is more difficult for me.

I legitimately thought we may never beat USC again around the 2007/2008 timeframe.

Correct. People who lived that shit... I was at ND during the Weis years... really thought USC would never regress and would be a yearly loss. When we got darn close in 2009 people started to believe they were vulnerable again and I really think Kelly getting that W @USC in 2010 saved his entire tenure.

BC '93... the last time I cried over a sporting event.

Between these two though, Bush Push was worse. There's still a lot of room for optimism for this team...USC '06 felt like the Miracle On Ice, until it didn't.

Yup, same. The end of 2010 was kind of magical. So much bad had happened that season, but when Crist went down and Tommy got his first start a lot of older fans packed it in and sold their tickets off or gave the tickets to younger family. I remember how fun that Utah game was, nobody expected to win, and the normally reserved gold seats were filled with rowdy people I never saw before. Utah was shellshocked, we dominated, and it kicked off a winning streak to turn around the season. Breaking the 8 game losing streak to USC at the end was like a weight off the chest, and a bowl win over Miami to cap things off wasn't bad either.

Yup. I wonder if Pete Bercich reached out to DJ Brown yet?

I was at the 07 game. Every USC touchdown was scored in the south end zone..... 5 rows in front of me. I did get to shake the Poodles hand though since SC warmed up on the south end.

Not close. Bush Push may be the most devastating loss in ND football history.

Funny in the simulcast no discussion of Bush's push. I gather back then Instant Replay was denied for the game by the home team - Pete Carroll. That is comparably bad game.

The drudgery of being an ND Fan.

Fuck this dumbass thread. We lost a great game in heartbreaking fashion. We will win one eventually - although “I don’t know where I’ll be then, Rock…” 😉

Let’s go beat Duke’s ass, it’s going to be a tough one.

Only one game in my entire life caused me to lose sleep, this one. I literally woke up 6-7 times and kept replaying critical plays in my head. I'm not that invested in sports so that was a very odd occurrence for me. I also couldn't force myself to log on to this board, just felt completely hungover on Sunday and I didn't have a single drink.

That tells me I care a little too much about a football team representing a small Catholic college in northern Indiana.

I think the sting of the Ohio State loss was lessen after they drop two - one to Penn State and the other to Michigan, again (said in a Mike Valenti tone).

Am I not understanding what you're saying? Because OSU losing to Penn St and michigan would make it worse.

I hate to say it. This was my exact experience. Definitely made me feel like I need to prioritize things differently.
