It's not the lighting guys its a new swirl design.
Apparently, some variations to the rest of the uni coming for this game only, as well.
Notre Dame Attempts To Out-Ugly Maryland With New Helmets - From Our Editors - SBNation.com
Ok, photoshop guys, lets get on it...

Shamrock Series Helmets Announced - UND.COM - University of Notre Dame Official Athletic Site
First I've heard of this "Shamrock Series"???
Ha, HA (he says in his best Buzz Killington voice). You know why BobD doesn't like this thread? Because he's a SCOT!.
So according to this article, the "Shamrock Series" is what they are calling our offsite game every year. We will wear a different uniform on this game but will wear our traditional uniforms for every other game of the season. The jerseys for the Maryland game will be identical to the jerseys from the game last year at Yankee Stadium except we will have gloves with a solid gold palm that make a Shamrock when put together (instead of the leprechaun currently).

Beyond the new helmets, the Irish jerseys and pants for the game against Maryland Saturday will be identical to those worn a year ago at Yankee Stadium against Army - including green adidas TECHFIT jerseys. New for the Maryland matchup, the Irish will wear adidas adizero gloves featuring a gold palm and adjoining shamrock logo plus white adidas cleats.
Is it just me or does all of this stuff smell of that 40 year old mom who wears abercrombie and "likes rap"?
"We're hip too guys! We got new jerseys and everything! You want to hang out later Oregon? What's that? You need to borrow my car? No that's cool!"
The people on NDnation heads are going to explode.
I'm glad Rockne's not alive to see this nonsense!
Agreed, Rockne hated this kind of stuff. He almost had to jam a spoon in his own ear when he decided to start using the recently created forward pass...
Seriously? ND USED to be about innovation and creativity, until some bullshit generation decided we HAD to be about completely preserving traditions at the expense of growth of the program. That mindset hasn't worked, and its about damn time we get back to maybe being on the leading edge of creativity, again.
We're a bit late to the party no doubt. Better late than never I suppose. If we never return to glory it will look foolish. If we win a BCS game in the next three years it will be worth. I am willing to take the risk.
Outside of the forward pass, and actually educating football players, what other innovations is ND known for?
You know what grows the program? WINNING. If a kid is going to base his decision to come to ND on the fact that they wear cool uniforms, then I don't want him(not that what I want really matters).
My only thought with the helmet is...where are they going to go with the jersey?
Really? lets just whip out a couple - national scheduling, alternate jerseys (we created the genre in the first place with the green alternates at halftime), dedicated national radio and TV
We WERE a leader once, and can be again with some resolve.
Oh, gosh, almost forgot the big one! The marketing of the players individually - WELL before anyone else was doing that. The iconic "four horsemen" picture we all know, Rockne himself, all marketing the image of ND.
The point, we were great because we were first at all of these things. We got stale by defending some silly traditions. We have to shake off the staleness, and I for one am glad we're starting to be that ND again.
I think you're going to find NBC is behind all this. They're targeting female tweens to up the TV ratings.
Look for Layered Jerseys, blue, gold, AND green, for the BC game.
You're missing the point............the point isn't that we were great because we were first in all of these things. We were first in all of these things because we were great.........ON THE FIELD!!
Negative - they go hand in hand. One without the other wouldn't have made a great program. Ask some other of the programs who also had some great teams but literally aren't relevant today.
Positive - No one would have cared about the Four Horseman picture, if ND had LOST to Army. Besides, ND didn't create the Four Horsemen nicknmame, New York Herald Tribune writer Grantland Rice did.

You aren't going to get it because you are one of those folks who wants traditions at all cost. Good for you, bad for the program.
