J&B. Not as bad as I remember. Also if it's good enough for Kurt Russell, it's good enough for me.jandb-scotch-6a39964058e6924ac39906293424fda8-lg.jpgthing 01 arrow.jpg

A former co-worker who collects old whiskey, bourbon, scotch, etc… gave me a bottle of 1958 Maker’s Mark, the first year.
He gave it to me 12 years ago when I gave him one of my flight suits I wore in late 2001 on a rescue overseas.
I haven’t touched it in 12 years. Tonight, I finally opened it.
Not groundbreaking, but really cool gift from an old friend.
Listening to Andrea Bocelli & preparing to wet myself (again).

Small Batch 1792. It was on sale for $26 and I'm thoroughly impressed.
If it stays that inexpensive it will be my new daily sipper.

Ridge Estate Merlot 2019 with dinner. A great wine once it opened up, blackberry, black cherry, cigar and a touch of vanilla and pepper. Some fine tannins running through it.

Blackland Texas Pecan Brown Sugar Bourbon

It’s got everything you’d expect but in a very mature fashion… it’s very very good

Starting a new job next week and I’m planning on making rum cocktails this Friday for a party my girlfriend and I are throwing. Does anyone here have any good recipes? Preliminary idea is for rum punch but I’m looking into Mojitos and Mai Tais etc too

I make a simple rum punch like so:

1.5-2 oz of spiced rum (I use Cruzan Rum, it’s fairly cheap but I like it)
2-3 oz each of orange juice and pineapple juice
Splash of grenadine
Stir and enjoy

Grabbed a Calumet 10 year, George Ramus Store Pick (Total Wine & More), and Weller Full Proof over the weekend. On the lookout for Hibiki Harmony if anyone has some locally, PM me. Same goes for Weller or pretty much anything distilled at Buffalo Trace. They're all impossible to find by me right now. Buffalo Trace, Eagle Rare, Blantons, Weller, EH Taylor, etc...

Today starts my doctor ordered elimination diet. So last night, I decided to make the most of it. Had 3 Old Fashions with Bulleit rye, a couple of Oberons I had in my fridge, a couple pours of Willet rye and ended the night finishing whatever bottle of wine my wife had opened. Going to be a rough day.

I’ve found that Buffalo Trace is out of stock everywhere I’ve looked except in the state of Kentucky. I picked up two bottles in Louisville last year

Same in Indy. It's not just Buffalo Trace, it's all brands distilled there. I used to be able to get BT and Eagle Rare any time I walked into Meijer or Kroger. Benchmark is about the only BT I can find right now.

Meanwhile, a lot of my bourbon groups on FB are loading up on Weller but I have no idea where they're finding them. Some by the cases. The OWA is my favorite bourbon. The secondary price has gone up $30 in the last 12 months. It's annoying.

I've seen BT and Eagle Rare a lot out here in Texas lately but it's been a REAL long time since I've seen Blanton's

Binnys in the Chicago area got an allocation of BT products last week including BT, Eagle Rare, Stagg, and Blatons. Lines out the door to get your name on the list for Stagg and Blanton's. I was happy just getting a bottle of Eagle Rare at MSRP.

I stumbled upon a youtube channel last night of a father/son (Ithink) duo who do bourbon reviews. Turns out they're from the Valpo area and mentioned that NE Indiana's allocation is pretty decent. They did an entire series on Buffalo Trace and their bottom line was the distillery makes some fantastic bourbons, but the allocation issues have a huge negative impact on their reputation. I pretty much agree. I haven't found a BT bottle that I didn't love...the problem is finding them (at decent prices).

Meanwhile Old Forester is all over the place and that stuff is phenomenal, imo.
