Same. ER is one of my least favorites. I have had several bourbons that were much more spicy and rich in flavor but much less harsh. Also there is something in the ER profile that sours in my mouth and I cant put my finger on it.

Hell yeah, been nursing it for quite a while. Not all that much left tbh. If it weren't for COVID, my friends and I would've made one last hurrah with it in one party. Side note: damn near lost a friend because he decided to just pour coke into the 40 year old bourbon without even tasting it.

I second this. Another is Weller Antique 107.

I like Weller, but for some reason I get this odd copper aftertaste when I smoke a cigar and drink A107. It wasn't a one-time thing, it was consistent. Has anyone else ever experienced that?

Full Proof is pretty nice. Don't know if it's worth the price, though. Still, that label is dope.

What's ECBP stand for?

Elijah Craig Barrel Proof. There are three versions each year, the A Lot, the B Lot (heh heh), and the C Lot. I think they also give a rack number, but I don't necessarily know the differences.

A120 is remarkable. I heard good things about B520, as well. The proof-point is generally 130+, so it's not for everyone. The flavor and mouth-punch is amazing.

Harsh? ER is usually one of the sweetest and most mild bourbons. Was it oxidized? Weird.

I have had the 10, 12, 15 and 20 (albeit just single pours of the 10, 12, and 20). They were much "smoother" to pallet IMO than many of the bourbons I really enjoy. For me I find all wheated bourbons much more smooth that ryes.

Its also my understanding that wheats are generally smoother and sweeter than ryes. I dont have a good or expansive pallet nor do I know what I should be tasting, only what I do taste.

It takes effort (and $) to have a great pallet lol. Back when a buddy and I were on the weekly Scotch tasting kick, we ended up using a spreadsheet after the first two weeks once we started figuring it all out. It was enjoyable and a great experience, but I'm back to the "just enjoy" space.

What is the smoothest, sweetest, least offensive bourbon for drinking neat?

Personally, I’d start with Buffalo Trace. Good price point. Easy drinking. I also tend to prefer a sweet (relative term here) bourbon or whiskey.

There’s been some other good recommendations, but really it comes down to personal preference. You might like something that others don’t. There are so many options.

Angel’s Envy costs a little more, but I find it to be somewhat sweet.

Bulletin. 95 Rye
WhistlePig 10 yr
High West Double Rye
TX Blended Whiskey (I have the straight bourbon, but haven’t cracked it open yet)

Popped open a Blanton's SFTB, last night. This particular one is a 2018 Japan release with dump date 08/15/18 and coming in at 129.6 proof. If you have the means and ability to get a bottle, do so. This is a fantastic bourbon. Great combination of sweetness and heat.

Popped open a Blanton's SFTB, last night. This particular one is a 2018 Japan release with dump date 08/15/18 and coming in at 129.6 proof. If you have the means and ability to get a bottle, do so. This is a fantastic bourbon. Great combination of sweetness and heat.

Never been fortunate to find Blantons in a store. Had a few in some nice bars and restaurants. I once found out on social media that a local place had some, but by the time I got there, they were out. 40 bottles bought within 2 hours before I could get there. Crazy.

The only one I haven't been fond of is the Black. It had a lower proof-point, and I just found it too bland. This SFTB is pretty damn close to BTAC-level quality. It's very similar to the William Larue Weller 2018 release.

You can buy up to 36 at a time during this sale. Their normal "schtick" is that they have limited lots for these wines, which they get at a good discount. Whoever buys the "last bottle" gets a $25 voucher for their next purchase.

For the marathon sale, the lots are smaller, so they skip the $25 voucher. However, the deals are pretty dang good. Everything from $8 bottles all the way up to hundreds of dollars. I might've even seen a few in the thousands. Plus shipping is either free or $1 for the duration of the marathon.

I've bought $8 bottles, but typically look for their stuff in the low to mid teens. Heck I once got a bottle of legit champagne for $20. I've not once been disappointed in anything they've sent me.

Brazos Valley Cherub Rock, an imperial pumpkin porter. Solid, not spectacular, but it was overall kinda cheap.

I think this is the year where I'm just gonna try damn near every pumpkin beer I see. ACamp, if you ever see St Arnold Pumpkinator, pick some up. It's phenomenal

De Garde Kriek Premiere. Very good kriek. Lots of cherry on the nose and the finish. Pours a bright red with light head. Not overly carbonated. Well balanced with just a bit of tartness and a nice dry finish. 8% but very drinkable. Will buy again.

Balcones Single Malt Lineage

Not as big a fan of this as I was True Blue, but not a bad American single malt. Didn't even need a drop of water tbh, was better without it.

Had a buddy over, Montucky Cold Snacks. But also one of my favorite seasonal releases ever, not for the flavor or anything:

Every year, Independence Brewing in Austin re-releases their Austin Amber, a style I've never cared for, in preparation for the Red River Rivalry. They spend the money to rebrand and relabel this beer as Oklahoma Suks. I do not give a damn about UT, OU, the rivalry, or the style. But I love to reward this level of pettiness.

Real Ale Hans Pils, a German style pils that's one of my faves in the area. It ain't Live Oak, but a 12 pack is pretty affordable
