3 Fonteinen Golden Blend. Pretty much a perfect Gueuze. High carbonation that borders on champagne like, tart but not overpowering, just a slight hint of oak, fruit and a very dry finish. Refreshing, very drinkable and one of the best beers I’ve ever had.

Belching Beaver and Coronado Brewing collaboration, Tooth & Tail

What do you think? I've got a couple cases of that & Mosaic DIPA coming next weekend.

My chick's daughter doesn't care for it but most folks that swing by my place like HazyNE's more that WCIPA's that I prefer.

Did you get a chance to try their Fall of Troy DIPA?

Querkus Smoked Oaked Porter. Light on the smoke but pretty good. Unlike most porters I've had tho, not as rich.

Brazos Valley Slipping Into Darkness with Cacao Nib and Hazelnut. Not like Nutella, but a damn good imperial stout.

Canadian Breakfast Stout. Lives up to the hype. Not cloyingly sweet, nice carbonation, great flavor profile and very drinkable compared to other “big” beers and imperial stouts. Should have watched Strange Brew while drinking this.

It really is so good, but it's only available in bombers down here. Can't justify the $23 but once a year. Luckily it's coming out in November again

I disagree on CBS. I think it is too sweet/syrupy. I bought a bomber for my local brewer this Christmas and we shared it at the Brewery's Xmas party. He then treated me to a CBS from last year that he had sitting on the shelf. Side by side, the aged is so much better. One year takes the candyness out of it. He meant to let it sit for 2 years because he thinks that's the ticket for CBS but since I brought that in, he wanted to do a comparo. He's a stout specialist so I'll go with what he thinks.

72 Imperial Chocolate Cream Stout by Breckenridge. Can't tell what year, thinking maybe 2015? Got this because a friend lost a bet for an "old dusty" during the NFL season. He actually got me a second one since it took so long to pay me. The first was that Porter I posted about earlier in the thread, that was a good beer.

Sadly this is not. The nose reveals that it's barrel aged, but the taste is a bit sour, though I don't think this is infected. Just a soy sauce bomb.

Love Longbranch.
I've had both 10 and 20 Laphs. Tired them after PKT gave me recommendations. Decent, but didn't care for the aftertaste. Several less smokey/peaty options I liked better. Not saying it's bad at all (I'd happily drink it any day), just others I prefer at that $.

You should try some other "types".
PKT did a really good job of listing out recommendations with descriptions. Give me a sec and I'll try to find it.

Talisker Distillers Edition 2015 release.

N: Brine, followed by salted caramel, raisins and dried cranberries and wood smoke. Slight nuttiness in the background (Brazil nut?).
P: salty, with a touch of caramel and toffee, and a hint of dried red fruit. White pepper and a green vegetal note in the background. Smoke starts to show up.
F: Briney, salted caramel and some smoke linger.

A solid Talisker but I have enjoyed other years more.

Lagavulin Distillers Edition 2017 release

N: Massive sherry. Aged balsamic, walnuts, pecans, and dried cherries. Slowly, some campfire, peat and salt join the fray.
P: sherry leads the way, balsamic, walnuts and cherry but the smoke and peat starts being more assertive. Smoked nuts, wood smoke and salty red fruits.
F: Now the smoke and peat take the lead as it lingers. Salty smoked walnuts, oak in a smoker, Smoked fish and just a touch of sweetness.

A very rich and enjoyable dram.

Time to break out something lighter.

Alexander Murray Linkwood 1997 19yo 53.8%. Not usually a fan of Alexander Murray bottling but their Cask Strength ones are usually pretty good.

N: Massive orchard fruit. Pears, apples and peaches. A little white grapes and vanilla.
P: Similar to the nose. Fruit salad (apples, pears and peaches) with a vanilla cream on top. A touch of papaya.
F: Starts on the fruit listed above but then moves towards some drying oak and pencil shavings.

A very enjoyable and different whisky.
