Went to Angel's Trumpet for lunch with my brother today. Tried Verhaeghe's Duchesse de Bourgogne. By far the best Flanders Red I've ever had, and easily one of the best sours I've had, too. Compares favorably to Cascade's Sang Noir. Highly recommended if you like sours.

Had a beer made with grits yesterday. Not so bad.

An industry insider who would know told me that Kirkland's 18yo sherry-finished single malt scotch is actually just relabelled Macallan juice. Sherried Macalan is my jam as far as scotch goes, so I had to pick it up, and I was not disappointed. Since this stuff usually sells for ~$300/ bottle on label, at ~$60 it's easily one of the best values in whiskey right now:

This.

If you see the Kirkland 27 on the shelves, buy it and don't look back. It was $50, here in Hawaii, so I assume it would be around $45, stateside (not counting for supply/demand adjustments and inflation.) WELL worth the money.

Had The Bruery's White Chocolate again recently, and was just as amazing as I remembered. Pretty sure I've loved every beer of theirs I've ever tried.

I took my kids to the Grand Canyon a few weeks ago and we stopped at a gas station in Flagstaff to use the bathroom. To my pleasant surprise, this place had an amazing selection of unicorn whiskeys on sale for little more than cost. Apparently the guy who owns it moves huge amounts of Sutter Home wine at his hotels and restaurants, so he automatically gets sent a bunch of rare allocated bottles, which he just sticks in this gas station for next to nothing. I got a handle of WL Weller Special Reserve (!), Willet Rye single barrel, Yellowstone Select, Larceny, and Amador double barrel all for under $200. My wife was confused as to why I had to buy so much booze at a random Flagstaff gas station, but needless to say, that was the highlight of my trip.

The store manager told me to call if I'm ever looking for something that's hard to find, because they've always got stuff like that and pretty much no one knows about it...

My neighborhood Costco just put out about 3 cases of the Kirkland 20-Year Single Malt Speyside. Going rate is $57. I purchased the last three bottles of Green Spot they had, so maybe I'll wait until next week to pick this one up.

McPherson red blend (mostly tempranillo). A Texas winery out of the Lubbock area. Pretty good for $10, which is exactly what should be common for local winemakers. Sadly it seems like everybody thinks they need to charge $15, even if you are only 100 miles away. I swear, if somebody consistently makes a good Texas value wine, they'd get my business damn near every time.

We had a Founder's Tap Takeover at the bar I work at last night. Had KBS, Dank Wood, Centennial IPA, Fuzzy Sweater IPA, All Day IPA, DKML and Lizard of Koz. Koz was my favorite of all the ones we had.

You might be the only person I've seen say they enjoyed Koz. How was Dank Wood?

Edit: Going to Madison for a buddy's ordination next week. Looking forward to picking up some Toppling Goliath while in the area (and maybe the fruited New Glarus). Also looking forward to meeting my brother here on my drive up: https://www.scratchbeer.com

That's weird, everyone that had Koz really liked it. I tried just a small sample of Dank Wood but it was solid.

I messaged Ballast Point asking if Thai Chili Wahoo is ever going to hit shelves again and they responded:

"That is easily one of our most requested and liked beers so there is definitely a chance it happens in the future."

I guess that's good news and all but if the response is true why not just brew a few batches?? The thirst is real.

Pretty sure you're the one who mentioned that gin and tonics are the perfect hot weather drink. I'm also partial to negronis.

Also half white wine half sparkling water is pretty damn good.

That was definitely me. Love me some G&T during the summer. Had 2 yesterday. White wine is really versatile for both mixing with sparkling water (as you said) or making a nice summer sangria.

Been drinking lots of local IPAs lately. No shock there.

Had the last three fingers of Macallan 18 that's been tempting me for a while, in my new Yeti lowball, and now chilling with a few Budweisers left in my fridge by wonderful neighbors.....

How was it?
Super quaffable. I stopped buying last summer or spring because the price was ridiculous but $13 for the six pack (with a chance of $8 due to poor stocking) was good. Hazy tropical fruit. Pretty damn good tbh

Ever noticed a different taste with the drink coming out of metal versus glass?

I have been drinking bourbon for about a year now. I drink it pretty much neat.
I enjoy the whole process of how it's made. The charred white oak barrels, the different mash bills, the various age and proofs. It's amazing all of the different flavors you get from storing the white dog in those barrels.

Can get expensive though!

Not at all with the Yetis. I've had several over the last 3 or so years,,,,, but always end up giving them away on beach trips, or after friends compliment them when sharing a cocktail. Depending on my mood, I sometimes use a XXL ice ball,,,,,, and without a doubt, the Yetis keep the ice from melting fast like glass does.

Have you?

Thank you! I might have to pick up this release, after having stayed away from the past few.
