About to open a bottle of Kirkland Signature Chianti Classico Riserva 2011 to pair with some spaghetti and meatballs.

Ok, initial notes on the wine are tart cherry and cranberry with some herbs, spices and a little tobacco leaf. Definitely dominated by the tart cherry and cranberry but a good value for $8.50. I will post after I have it with food. Also it really needs about 30 minutes to bring out some flavors.

It improved with food, pairing particularly well with meatballs. Overall a good value for under $9.

Tried Fathom IPL from Ballast Point yesterday. Pretty drinkable, hoppy for a Lager.

Tonight doing a head to head between North Coast Old Rasputin RIS in a Rogue Stout glass and from a Guinness Pub glass. I put a 12oz bottle into each glass and tried my best to pour with the same vigor.

Rogue Stout Glass
N: Dark roasted coffee, cocoa nibs, malt and a touch of vanilla. A touch of smoke.
P: Dark roasted coffee mixed with chocolate milk (real chocolate milk using cocoa not the fake crap). There is some vanilla as well and roasted malt. A slight cola flavor as well.
F: Lots of dark roasted coffee and roasted malt. A little bitter dark chocolate (70%+ cocoa).

Guinness Pub Glass
N: Dark roasted coffee and cocoa (significantly lighter than the Stout glass though).
P: Roasted coffee and roasted malt. Gets really stuck on the roasted notes. Maybe a hint of bitter dark chocolate is there as well.
F: Gets even more roasted and bitter tasting.

The stout glass was significantly better for the aroma and I preferred the taste from it as well. Before I give it my recommendation I want to try it tomorrow night using the Left Hand Milk Stout Nitro.

I like it. But apparently I like sours. I enjoyed it in a tulip glass btw. And have a spare bottle if you want to make the drive.

I don't think that my wife would be too thrilled with me if I just took off for Texas.

Tonight I had Left Hand Milk Stout Nitro from the stout glass and from a tullip glass. I slightly preferred it from the stout glass but it wasn't as pronounced a difference as last night.

Today at lunch I had Deschutes Foray Belgian IPA and He'Brew Wishbone Session DIPA.

Now a bomber of Stone RIS half in tje stout glass and half from a pub glass. The stout glass really brings out the aromas. My final impression of the stout glass is that it is a large improvement on pint/pub glasses and only a moderate improvement over tulip glasses. I think that the IPA glass is a slightly better glass but the stout glass is worth buying if you regularly buy stouts.

I finally tried Deschutes Fresh-Squeezed IPA. Pretty good, not a hop bomb. I didn't love it like some of you guys do, but it was a solid beer.

I also had Flying Dog's Easy IPA last night on draft. I wasn't crazy about that. Too dry and piney, not very refreshing.

Drinking a UFO Big Squeeze Grapefruit Shandy. Very good. I usually hate pre-made shandies.

Looking for recommendations for a good Scotch to try. I am a creature of habit and haven't really ventured out past my Macallan in a while.

I really do enjoy Lagavulin but the other posters have better whiskey knowledge than I do.

Which Macallan do you prefer, what is it that you like about Macallan (smells, flavors, etc)? How much are you looking to spend? Do you want to try something similar to Macallan or something very different from it?

ETA: Also what abv are you comfortable with? Do you like cask strength whiskies or is 40-46% more your speed?

I just recently finished Fine Oak 12 yr. Starts off fruity but the smoke flavor doesn't get too strong. I'm willimg to try something different.

Stone Enjoy By 7/4/15. Very good but not my favorite release. Definitely worth buying and I can't wait to try it again without the spicy dinner.

Still worth it? I just found a place around here that carries it on tap.

Since you didn't list price, I will try to keep the price at around $50 or under, though prices vary greatly by where you are in the country and can even vary greatly within the same city depending on where you shop.

If you want something different, you could go with
For more sherried
Macallan 12 Sherry Oak (big sherry flavors, figs, raisins, nuts, etc)
Glendronach 12yo (again big sherry flavors)

For slightly more smoke
Highland Park 12 (a touch of smoke, honey, heather, etc)

For something lighter
Cragganmore 12yo (much lighter, more along light malt, some stone fruits, etc)
You could probably throw Glenivet 12 into this category as well with some coconut, vanilla, and light tropical fruits.

For something saltier
Old Pulteney 12yo (brine, stone fruits, light malt, etc)

Similar to the Macallan FO but amped up a little
Also Balvenie 12yo Doublewood (some sherry, malt, honey, etc)
Glenfiddich 15yo Some spice, light sherry, creamy, vanilla, etc.
Aberlour 12 would probably fit here as well but it has been a long time since I have had it but it had some nice fruit, sherry, vanilla, etc.

If you wanted to go with some big time peat and smoke go
Ardbeg 10yo. (peat, smoke, tar, brine, some fruit, etc).
