I had a rep bring in some Tanqueray Malacca gin yesterday. It went down really smooth straight at room temperature, which is remarkable for gin. It's a "wet" style gin, a little more sweet and mellow than the London dry style (think Bluecoat or Hendricks). It was launched in the late 90s and didn't move but it got a following among bartenders who advocated for its return. It's a good mixing gin, good for drinking in a long glass on the patio. Side note, "Malacca" is an insult that our two dishwashers from Ghana toss around. I'm not sure if its spelled the same, but it's possible that Tanqueray basically named their product "Hey Dumbass" Gin.

Thanks for the info. So do you think it would do better in a Gin and Tonic than as it is a little sweeter vs a martini?

I think so, sort of like Bluecoat or Beefeater Wet. You probably can skip the tonic and just use seltzer since it doesn't have the bite of a typical London Dry and you don't need the added sweetness. I think it could still work as a martini, but it won't have that same crispness you'd get from something like Bombay Sapphire. I'll have to do some more experimentation when we get our bottle in and report back.

I think Dogfish head is the one of most overrated breweries going, not that it isn't good... But its price screams cream of the crop... 60 minute, Midas Touch and others are all good beers, but not worth the price... Ill take Rogue, Stone, Speakeasy, lost coast all over Dog fish... And they're all cheaper generally speaking, usually by a lot.

West Coast Bias.

Although, I'm not the biggest DFH fan, either.

Started off with some Gentleman Jack. Straight over some whiskey stones. Now I have moved on to some beer. Kona Brewing Company Koko Brown. It is a brown ale made with toasted coconut. Really tasty!!!

Oskar Blues GUBNA Imperial IPA. A very balanced Imperial IPA that even has some rye spiciness to it. Very good when you don't want a west coast IPA.

I was drinking some red zin with the wife last night. I think this varietal is falling out of flavor for me. I don't care for the sweet aspect anymore. I'm really liking Carmenere lately' it's dry and spicy but still full-bodied and robust.

Moose Drool for a bit. Then switching to clean off the liquor cabinet. Today was my last clinical rotation ever. I plan on getting mildly inebriated.

Seems like the state of Arizona is sold out of Old Weller 12y, and Total Wine isn't due to get another shipment until November.

Looked into some online options, and they're significantly more expensive.

That's my go-to liquor. I has a sad.

Not sure what Red Zins you are drinking that are sweet. I have never known any to have that taste profile. Definitely not a characteristic of that grape.

Budweiser tall boy. My fridge is just about empty. All that's left is a few Boddington's.
