Another factor to think about...Florida and Urban Meyer always had to deal with their critics of not preparing Tebow and their other QB's for the NFL because of the spread.

In the next few years, the tables will turn. Kelly will have to respond to those critics in the same way with his spread while Weis is down in Gainesville installing a Pro style offense. Weird.

Don't forget this one...Weis brought in a top 5 recruiting class with high academic standards at ND during a 3-9 season. His recruiting at Florida with Muschamp is scary to think about.

i couldn't stand weis at the end of his regime. he was so predictable, but i imagine he'll excel at UF. regardless of how this turns out, he certainly knows how to cash a big paycheck!

That Super Bowl ring flashing thing should work a lot better in his UF-recruiting efforts than they did at ND.

They will get good talent but now they have to change their style of offense from the spread to the pro style. I don't really know there roster that well but they better hope they have a QB and o-line that can handle that.

Well, this sucks. I was getting ready to adopt KC as my AFC team (my brother's moving out there after he graduates). Now I'm going to have to balance my hate of Florida with my respect for Weis.

I've lost all respect for Weis as a result of this move. First, I think that he totally abandoned the KC Chiefs. You can tell from the result today.

In comparison, I have so much admiration for Holtz because he went to a program that really doesn't compete with ND. It will be interesting to see how Weis approaches Florida recruits that are also interested in ND.

Florida can go suck it.

Oh no!!! He's gonna give Florida a decided schematic advantage!

his pro style offense will pull QB recruit's that will never consider ND(or any other spread-offense school), taking from the USC recruit pool. Couple that with his overall recruiting prowess, and his offensive schemes and yes, the Gators just did themselves a big favor if the fatman does in fact go to FLA. Considering he doesnt have to build the program up from the lowest point its has ever been at, florida will do well. its a shrewed move.

for the worst, most hated coach around ND in awhile, he sure doesnt have ANY trouble whatsoever getting a job, whether its the NFL or CFB.

Admittedly this looks troublesome right now. But, with all the crazy stuff that has happened around college football in the last couple years, I wouldn't worry about it much. As experience has shown us, there are a whole lot of unexpected things that can happen to any program that could prevent this from being any sort of long-term problem for ND's future.

Hey NankerPhelge, I'm reading Kieth's autobiography(Christmas present from my daughter), he explained the origin of the pseudonym. Have you read it yet? It's awesome.

As for Weis abandoning the Chiefs, there were already reports he was leaving before the rumors started that he was heading to Florida. I don't think anybody knows why, but it does sound like it may have been a result the Chiefs wanted.

And ND does not really compete with Florida either. To the extent that both schools want the best recruits in the country, sure we do, but besides that we wouldn't play them in anything but a bowl game. Of the three major Florida teams, Florida is #3 on our list of rivals. Also, the list of kids who go to Florida who could also go to ND usually is very short.

Finally, Weis owes ND nothing. He put all of his heart and effort into the job while he was here. He coached through life-threatening health issues and endured his weight and his son becoming objects of ridicule amongst a certain section of ND fans. He left the football program in much better shape than he found it and in 5 years lead it to two of its better seasons in the past 20 years. It didn't work out, and we fired him. He has every right in the world to coach where ever he wants, even -god forbid- Florida.

Good for Charlie! Maybe what this shows is that he really loves the college game....

I didn't believe it at first, but hey, a guy has to make a living. Good luck Charlie (except when you play ND!).

No, I haven't and probably won't. Not because of any other reason than that I have been a Stones fan for so long that I think I have already read most of the book in one form or the other through the years. From the various comments I have read, there is nothing really new in it. Of course, if you haven't been following them for the past 30+ years, then it would pretty much be all new, and an interesting read. Hope you enjoy!

Hi Nanker,
In fact, I've followed the Stones for 47 years, but who's counting. I'm 61 years old and was in front of the set for every Beatles/Stones etc. Ed Sullivan broadcast there was from the beginning. Wonderful memories. I really urge you to pick up Kieth's book, it's filled with revelations only the man himself could include. Such a character, so much insight. He brings it all back to life and that's not an easy trick.
Anyway, you probably know, but for those who don't; NankerPhelge was Mick and Kieth's original pen name for some of the early tunes they wrote together. A `nanker' is a look; a pulled face. Fingers in nostrils and pulling your face in various directions, we've all done it. According to Kieth, Brian was very good at this. James Phelge was a room mate during the broke year (1962) when they all lived together in London. You may know all that, but anyway, I'm sure the book has many revelations in it because he's held a lot of cards close to his vest.
Whatever works for you , man.
And by the way: GO IRISH!

Florida's loaded all the time and will stay so with or without Charlie Weis. My guess is that the KC situation had problems in it mutually---even Florida is not going to outspend an NFL team if the NFL really wants something.

As some have said, we will not compete for the same kind of QB; that position should not be affected. Both of us want game-changer receivers though. Florida already seems to get whoever they want there, so who knows if that plays.

I doubt that Weis has many personal "HS coach 'ins' ", which, if he did, might produce trouble for us in the first stages of recruitment---I thought that some of his assistants were actually the success story there. Weis was the closer---a head-coaching role. He isn't head coach at Florida.

What Weis brings is offensive "polishing" ability for QBs, and [supposedly] excellent pre-game playcall planning. Whether he brings excellent in-game adjustments is something I'll leave to wiser heads to assess. I just can't intuit exactly where this hire would really affect ND, so I can't get riled up about it.

Yeah, I knew about the "nanker" thing. There are some pictures around of Brian and Keith doing it. Jimmy Phelge is still around, too. I think he wrote a book in the last year or so, trying to capitalize on his "15 minutes" of fame.

On second thought, though, based on your recommendation, I might get the book. It's just that all the reviews I've read so far seem to indicate it is just a lot of rehashed stuff. But, if you're an old Stones fan, and you say it it worth it, I just might spring for it. You surprised me, because I didn't think there were that many old guys like us on this board.

And, just to stay on topic, I will agree: GO IRISH!!!!!

Personally I feel Charile will do alright down in Florida, and I am not too worried how it will effect us. Say what you want about CW, but he is an excellent Offensive Coordinator. He didn't pan out to much as a Head Coach unfortunately, but I think he will be successful down at UF.

@GatorZoneScott: Weis says he has more speed with #Gators offense than he ever had at ND. Points out that #SEC defenses are faster than he faced at ND too.

Well, I'm sorry but I will agree with him. We may have only had a handful of players with good speed; the SEC has speed all over the field. I'm not a Weis hater and I will thank him for leaving enough in the cupboard for BK to at least have a solid foundation to build on, if he didn’t we would not be talking BCS this year that’s for sure.

agreed here.

reading through some of these posts that bash Weis makes me ashamed to be a ND fan. The man worked his butt off for the school, and like or not his players are part of the reason we have a shot at BCS this year. so what things didn't work out, you don't have to tar and feather him every chance you get.

I wish Weis nothing but the best, I'm not gonna go out there and sign a petition to get his statue erected outside ND stadium, but the man at least deserves respect.

Hope he wins big down there at Florida.
