I'm going to try and make one of these each week for the board. I usually do one each week at work on a post-it note, that way I know which games/channels I need to look for. If I could, I would watch all of the football... but there is so much of it, and so many things to be excited about in the first few weeks, that without organization and a quick reference to what channels to keep on the "Previous 4" menu, I would feel overwhelmed.

Without further ado, here is your Week 1 viewing guide for COLLEGE FOOTBALL WOOOOOO. Some games will include explanations as to why they are on my guide, but generally I will just highlight the biggest matchups. You can treat this as reference as to what channel to turn on and when, but it can also be a general discussion place for each week's games.

Thursday, September 3rd
6:00pm, ESPN - North Carolina at South Carolina
8:00pm, ESPNSEC - Western Kentucky at Vandy (WKU has one of the most entertaining offenses in the country)
8:30pm, FS1 - Michigan at Utah
9:00pm, ESPN - #2 TCU at Minnesota (could be a surprising road test for the Frogs)

Friday, September 4th
7:00pm, ESPN - #4 Baylor at SMU (Mack Brown is calling this game lol)
7:00pm, ESPNU - #5 MSU at Western Michigan (Can PJ Fleck get his troops up for a week 1 upset at their home field?)
10:15pm, ESPN - Washington at #23 Boise State

Saturday, September 5th
12:00pm, ESPN - #21 Stanford at Northwestern (This is an early kickoff for the west-coast kids. Stanford could look sluggish early.)
3:30pm, ABC - BYU at Nebraska (Taysom Hill; Mike Reilly's first game at Nebraska)
3:30pm, ESPN - Penn State at Temple (let's root for an Owl upset here)
3:30pm, CBS - Louisville at #6 Auburn (GotW 1)
3:30pm, FOX - Virginia at #13 UCLA (Rosen's first start)
7:00pm, ESPN - #15 ASU vs Texas A&M (GotW 2)
7:00pm, ESPNU - Louisiana Lafayette at Kentucky (this is personal interest, as I like UK's QB)
7:30pm, NBC - #11 NOTRE DAME vs Texas (GAME OF THE WEEEEEEEK)
8:00pm, ABC - #20 Wisconsin vs #3 Bama
8:00pm, ESPNNEWS - Texas State at #10 Florida State (Everett Golson turns to the dark side, officially)
10:00pm, FS1 - Mississippi State at Southern Mississippi (late-night cool-down football)

Sunday, September 6th
3:00pm, FS1 - Purdue at Marshall (Sunday football should be watched regardless of who it is)

Monday, September 7th
8:00pm, ESPN - #1 Ohio State at Virginia Tech

Thursday has some good stuff! Sure would be nice to play that early and have an extra couple days before your second game. TCU puts themselves position to be seen up against a quality opponent (that they should handle).

Saturday will be interesting to compare our ratings with Badgers/Tide on ABC. Early season chance to knock down the SEC with some quality games. Can you imagine if ASU, L-ville and Wisconsin all win?

OSU getting cute playing Monday, I imagine they have sisters of the poor the following week but you are really pinching your timeline to turn around that fast. At least they aren't playing Navy the week before this time against VT.

I would love to see Louisville knock off Auburn (and I don't mind Auburn; If I had to pick a team in the SEC West to root for, it's them). Louisville is a dark-horse for the CFP over the next few years, IMO. Petrino is an offensive mastermind, and their defense should be pretty good for the next couple of years at least. If they make a run and get hot at the right time, and find a way to beat FSU/Clemson, they could make some noise.

I'm a believer in ASU, as well, but maybe not as big as Herbstreit, who has them in the playoffs. Bercovici is the real deal, and I would love to see A&M get the season started on the wrong foot, after having seen the gigantic and undeserving bump they got to start the season last year. Karma would be a welcome appearance a year after Kenny Hill hysteria (LOL).

I like the OSU vs VT game on Monday night mainly because it extends the first weekend of college football by a couple extra days. I would love to see VT beat OSU again, but (unfortunately) I think OSU has the potential to be a runaway-train type of dominant team, even without their suspended stars for the first game. And their schedule is garbage. If they get past VT, they should run roughshod on the B1G until the last two weeks of the season (MSU and scUM back-to-back).

Lion, any chance we could get AP rankings in the OP for future installments?

ETA: I also nominate these threads as the place to discuss non-ND games as they unfold each week.

Seems to be an ACC thing on Labor Day. We are scheduled to play at FSU on Labor Day in a couple years and again a couple years after that (I'm forgetting against who....either Clemson, Louisville, or VA Tech).

By rule, the NFL always starts the weekend after Labor Day. That leaves some prime real estate the week before MNF starts.

In 2019, ND opens at Louisville on Labor Day. I've got friends that were managers/trainers at Louisville, and I live in KY, so I will 100% be attending this game.

I added them to this one.

I also plan on dropping in and rambling throughout the day about the different games each week. There is so much going on nationally, and the playoff adds such a wide range of possibilities at the end of the season, that I would feel like I missed out on something if I don't watch/discuss as much football as possible.

That's it. I don't have the pre-season mag in front of me that had those dates. It will be odd to watch them play on a week day during the season. Hopefully we have a cupcake lined up for the Saturday after.

As of now, the 2019 schedule:

09/02 - at Louisville (Labor Day)
09/07 - OPEN
09/14 - New Mexico
09/21 - at Georgia
09/28 - Virginia
10/05 - OPEN
10/12 - OPEN
10/19 - at Georgia Tech
10/26 - OPEN
11/02 - Virginia Tech
11/09 - at Duke
11/16 - OPEN
11/23 - Boston College
11/30 - at Stanford

TBA - Navy
TBA - USC
TBA - TBA

So they have 5 open dates to fit in three games, and one of those games is an undecided opponent. Navy can't play on the 12th that year, so I'd imagine that game will be USC. I'd like to see Navy between Duke and Boston College, and a cupcake after Louisville, that way there are byes before USC and after GT:

09/02 - at Louisville (Labor Day)
09/07 - Cupcake U (Short Rest)
09/14 - New Mexico
09/21 - at Georgia
09/28 - Virginia
10/05 - OPEN
10/12 - USC
10/19 - at Georgia Tech
10/26 - OPEN
11/02 - Virginia Tech
11/09 - at Duke
11/16 - Navy
11/23 - Boston College
11/30 - at Stanford

My Hilltoppers take Vandy down Thursday night.

Were you a Hilltopper Tommy? I like WKU's program. Brohm is a good coach, not sure how long he'll be there for.

I latched on when Taggert was there and brought them to respectability. Loved their rushing offense with Bobby Rainey and Antonio Andrews.

Yea... a Hilltopper through and through. I was there when Harbaugh was coach. We struggled most years but good to see them getting better now.

TCU @ Minnesota could have huge playoff implications for Notre Dame. It's the only challenge TCU will have out of conference.

And how embarrassing that you can say that about a top-5 team lol.

I've been pleasantly surprised at the amount of Baylor- and TCU-bashing from the talking heads. Hopefully strength of schedule becomes more and more of a concern. I'd rather see other schools start to schedule like Notre Dame does than for Notre Dame to have to go the other way and weaken our schedule to compete.

I put all of my monies on TCU to cover the spread after reading how Patterson diagnosed Ole Miss in the bowl game. He literally shut down their entire playbook. If Minnesota has any "tells", he'll find them and use them. He had like 3 weeks to prepare for Ole Miss, I expect him to have a masterful game plan for Minnesota, who is returning much of their offense.

I'd be shocked if they don't come roaring out of the gates against Minnesota.

In TCU's defense I wonder how many bigger schools were even willing to schedule them... three/four/five years back (when these schedules were being made up) they def had that 'massive risk, no reward' thing about them... hell, they still have that stigma a bit... I'll bet few schools were willing.

I hope you're right, and peaking ahead at ND's future schedules, it seems they will continue to schedule as they have been. Let's just hope ND can press for a playoff spot in the next year or two, and everyone will begin following suit I think... or at the very least, we won't have to talk about Minnesota being someone's toughest OOC opponent.
