I went to the end of ND's first practice today, just to check things out since I've never been able to do that before. Got back a while ago. Practice didn't end at 12:15 as they stated, more like 12:40 or so. So I felt kinda like a creep walking around, alone, waiting for practice to end LOL. When I tried to look into the practice through one of the holes in the fence, one of the 'watchers' (kinda like ushers) gave me a death stare, shooing me off with his eyes. Not one of my finer moments. Anyway, some thoughts and some pics (warning, I SUCK at taking pictures):
* Weather was great, kinda hot but breezy and overcast. Perfect for outdoor football.
* Lots of coaching going on that you could hear from the outside. Coach Martin has a voice on him. They were definitely going 11 on 11 at the end of practice.
* It was surprisingly easy to get right near the gates, and hardly any fans were there...maybe 10-12 at the most.
* Some guys were watching through holes in the front gate (from about 10 feet back) so I went to see too. At the end of practice, 11 on 11, Golson, Kiel and Hendrix got reps while we watched. Hendrix threw one awful duck. Unfortunately, I only got to see a few plays (and even then, it was hard to see), b/c the 'watcher' made us move to the side. Did get to see Daniels in there, Motta made a play (my choice for break-out player), Rees was in the back and didn't get a rep while we were there.
* Afterwards, the guys seemed to be in great spirits. No moping or anything, lots of smiles and joking around.
* The lineman stayed at least 15-20 minutes after the other players, so I didn;t get any pics of them. When I drove off I saw them coming off finally. Extra work maybe???
* Amir Carlisle, if he's #3 as listed, is TINY. I mean, no way in hell is he 5'10". And he looks like a boy! Total baby-face. His family was there, so it makes sense that this would be Amir:
* Manti and Coach Kelly walked out together, in conversation. Manti looks thinner, in a good way. For the millionth time USC fans, so much for the theory that Te'o hates Kelly:
* There was a boy, about 10 yrs old, who had a #7 jersey with him. He asked TJ to sign it, and TJ happily obliged. The kid was ecstatic. Love seeing things like that:
* Here's Toma, giving crap to Jalen Brown (on his right), for grabbing on a play in which Toma says he would have been wide open:
* A couple pics of Kona and Tuitt. Can't believe how much bigger Kona is vs. where he was when he first arrived on campus. And Tuitt is just a monster:
* Sheldon Day, Louis Nix (also in great spirits), and Theo Riddick (thicker in person than I thought):
* This was pretty crazy. Right across the way from where they leave the practice field, outside, they have 4 HUGE tubs filled ice, where the players all ice down. So right outside, most of the team is right there for everyone to see:
* And Troy Niklas is as big as advertised. Holy hell that dude really is Hercules. Sorry ladies, I didn't get a great picture of him, but here he is:
Anyways, nothing earth shattering, but I thought I'd share nonetheless...
