If you guys don't like the topic, don't click on it. Do you get distracted by everything in life that you don't like? Do you walk by a pile of steamy dog poop and insist on touching it even though you don't like it? I'm beginning to wonder.

But if your dog keeps shitting in our yards, one of us might have to shoot the little bastard.

It's a funny reply, I'll give you that, but no one asks you to go looking into the Lep lounge for off-topic threads. I'm serious about my vaccum game.

I thought this thread was about good BJ stories but apparently I need to own a Dyson.

What Dyson did you buy? Because honestly... Everyone I know owns one and they are the best. It's not even close. Did you buy a cheap model or something?

Rule of thumb with any purchase.... Never buy the base model of anything.

We bought the Animal (DC17, I think). We loved it the first year or two. And then it literally just quit working. I went to have it cleaned and serviced and they told me that Dysons, specifically the one we bought, aren't that great and they need repaired all the time. Like you, I had never heard anyone complain about them, so I was shocked by this news. I forget exactly what part went bad in ours, but it was an expensive enough repair that I said fuck it and just bought a new one. After some research, I found the Miele. It's a personal preference that I like the bag over the canister. The vacuum, itself, seems cleaner. Everything gets trapped in the bags. When they're full, toss em and get a new one. That simple. I hated taking apart the Dyson, cleaning it, letting it air dry, and putting it back together every few weeks (which is required when your dogs shed as bad as ours). I hardly ever have to clean the guts of our Miele.

Try starting with a vacuum, or else you have no game.

First of all, the DC17 is a base model and not the model to buy. Secondly, I have no idea why you would have to air out any Dyson. What were you vacuuming? Maybe that's why it broke all of the time. Ha.

Seriously though. You don't get an opinion of Porshes by buying a 30 year old 944.

It's like starring at a car accident as you drive. You see the thread topic and who the OP is and can't help but look.
Koon's next thread: Help me pick out tomorrow's outfit to wear to work.
No italics.

I could be wrong, but at the time, I thought the one we bought was the "Mercedes" of Dyson's product line. I know it was among the most expensive. So how is that the "base model?" Second, you're supposed to take the filters out, rinse them, and let them air dry. It says right in the manual how to clean them. We have a rottweiler and fostered a black lab during the time we owned that vacuum. Between those two dogs, we were vacuuming 2 and sometimes even 3 times per week during shedding season. After a couple weeks, the canister and filters reeked like dog and the return air stunk as you swept. Like I said, the first year or two were fine...great, in fact. But then it lost suction. The belt got messed up. And I got tired of cleaning it all the time. When I found out the parts to fix it were obsolete and it'd be really expensive, I cashed out and switched a bag-vacuum. I honestly will not go back to bagless after having the Miele.

The dc17 is a $200 vacuum. Far from the "Mercedes". Also, I have never had to clean the filters on any of my Dysons. How long ago was this?

Fucking Koon for getting me sucked into this thread. This is my last vacuum post. LOL.

It wasn't $200 when we bought it back in 2012 (I think). It was around $300-$350. Hell, the refurbished ones are still $250 Remanufactured Dyson DC17 Animal Bagless Upright Vacuum Cleaner - ABC Vacuum

IIRC, regular cleaning/maintenance is simple. Empty the canister, wipe it out, rinse the filter with water (let it dry for 24hrs), etc. No big deal. But every few years, or when they start to smell really musty/bad, it's time for a more in-depth cleaning and service. That's what happened to ours. It smelled absolutely horrible and the suction wasn't strong. So we took it in. Maybe others haven't had the same problems we did. Maybe we just got a lemon. All I know is that I try to be diligent and take care of our belongings, and this thing took a crap on us after having it for only two years (using it 2-3 times per week).

We clean (meaning she cleans, just being honest) our filters exactly as BBG described and it's not that difficult... we love our Dyson... I've used a Shark,... eh.

As a closet Porschephile, I'd say a well sorted 944 is right there with Zuffenhausen's finest when it comes to defining what a Porsche means.

...and they're so easy on the eyes.

Is this the Miele you have? Two labs here and mama has been talking about an additional vac. She hates the dusty dander that comes with having a bagless canister vac.

I've driven a variation of this my entire adult life... always black for some reason.

I'd love to add one of these fairly soon but in reality it may take another ten years or so...

(and no, I'm not strictly a Camaro guy, I'd 'settle' for a dozen other nice muscle cars from that era).

In high school (late 90's early 00's) my buddy drove around a really beatup 70's Porsche 944. It had about 50 holes in the exhaust and you could hear it coming from a mile away literally. It leaked when it rained and in the winter the water would freeze in the back floor boards. We worked at a country club and he loved telling all of the members he drove a classic Porsche because it was more than 20 years old.

We need to revive the car thread. So much beauty in that thread.

'69 RS/SS 396. You don't mess around do you? That's Top 5 on anyone with a brain's list regardless of what manufacturer you prefer.

...and the new Civics are too big. They're bigger than the Accords of 10 years ago. My last one was a '99 Si that looked just like this. Bought it as a demo from one of my dealers and put 120k on it in 2 years. Added gas and Mobil 1 every 5k.

If it was a 70's model it was a 924. 944's didn't come out till '82. Different beast altogether though the 944 obviously grew out of it.
