Remember when you couldn’t pay for a blue checkmark so you instantly knew who was reliable? Good times

He actually attended 6 schools but played at 5…….quite a collegiate career indeed!
Please explain to me the problem.....seriously. Is it that he lied about his age? Six schools in 5 years seems the new norm in the landscape of the shitshow college sports has become. If he has "eligibility", does his age even matter.

Truthfully, I am glad these schools who are shelling out millions with this "just win baby" mentality are beginning to have buyer's remorse. I hope it happens more!

The tweet about him lying about his age is not true.

Imagine going after and intentionally pissing off the guys who literally are the backbone of your program’s legacy…even after they were already publicly salty that you chose to walk away from the program’s biggest rival.

He was overrated AF anyway. JV QB's could've led that team to a natty.

I would be disgusted if let’s say the Cardinals (knowing ND doesn’t retire numbers) asked a former player to do that, no matter if I thought it should be retired.

I just hope Freeman and company are negative recruiting the shit outta USC right now. I'd be saying "They're afraid of ND and LR won't be there next season" to any recruits who'll listen.

I have mixed feelings. Like @rtrn2glory I think just about any QB could have won at USC with the talent and coaching they had. Matt is overrated, and his ego knows no bounds despite the fact he was an NFL bust. That said, I find it hilarious they tried to unretire his number, and his attitude about the whole thing makes me laugh.

The Leinart deal is hilarious on both accounts. A school should NEVER ask a former player to unretire a jersey especially a former Heisman winner and 2x national title winner. Massive turn off if I'm a prospective recruit honestly. Leinart comes off as selfish with the denial but see why he issues it. He shouldn't have to rescind on something he earned. Hope to never hear about this at ND and would be shocked if I did.

If we say he was overrated and using NFL bust as partial backup, how do we reconcile that most of the guys he was throwing to were also busts in the NFL? Does that make them overrated? And if they are overrated, does that make Matt less overrated?

Also ... The difference in recruiting mindset for the types of players USC goes after. You hear ALL the time that kids are told to pick Notre Dame for Notre Dame, not for a coach. CJ Carr even said it when he was still in high school - Tommy Rees could be gone before he gets to campus and they talked to CJ about that possibility to make sure he chose ND the school, not for any other reason.

Compare that to the NBC Sports article shared above that recruits were asking to wear that number to go to USC. That is a complete lack of respect for the legacy of USC. I think it's important to recognize that they have a lot of history and this why the rivalry is important between the two schools. ND recruits would know that there's some type of history behind a retired jersey (or statue in a stadium, etc) even if they didn't know the history right away. USC is shopping down a different aisle in all the wrong ways.

Unaffiliated AD with an unaffiliated coach and unaffiliated GM who cares nothing about the legacy of the school and the players. No wonder they were so quick to trash on a historic rivalry because they care so little about the history of their own school, the sport of college football, and the rivalry game itself. Trash all around.
