USC recruiting and everything else

Former SC players can't stand Riley. He's done after this year.
Prior to this year, he wouldn't let former players back at practice. This spring, that has changed. In addition to hiring Gary Peterson, it appears to me that he is turning a new leaf. Which leads me to believe LR was told that he must make some major changes, or he will be gone.

I don’t understand why a coach wouldn’t want former players involved in some small or large capacity

There’s about 10 possible issues I have with the implication of this post, but the worst is by far that Chad was sitting in his office and saw UCLA, the little brother having a nice recruiting weekend and felt the need to text Nakos a justification as to why UCLA may outrank USC in a silly recruiting ranking.

Not only that, but I could see UCLA stealing some of the "LA" momentum from USC with Chesney there. I think really highly of him as a coach, and believe he'll have success building that program back up to a respectable point.

Again, the pattern here is glaring.

As long as Riley is there, the excuses will be forthcoming. That program is softer than Charmin.
Everyone in Oklahoma and many nationally feel Riley bolted OU because he wanted NOTHING to do with the SEC. Firmly believe had he known USC would soon be joining to physical Big 10 conference he would have reconsidered the decision. Riley and the USC culture will have serious difficulty ever being a Big 10 powerhouse for all things considered.

Insecurity. Same reason BK was always weird with Holtz and his players. I’m sure Riley is the same way with Carroll and the Carroll players.
Yep. Kelly didn't believe he was good enough and so in his head everyone else was thinking it too, all the time, and the idea of having to defend himself against that to former ND players who actually won something was terrifying to him. Better to do what he does best and obfuscate and deflect and get his back up and finally just exclude the players altogether. Riley is the exact same.

I am wondering if they spent all of their money and can no longer afford Fakatou. His statement about them signing all the DL may have been more about them not having anymore $ and less about his desire to compete.
Fakatou has never been all that high on USC

Correct, I think he is simply trying to be nice and make up some excuse. Like the girl in high school saying, "It's not you, it's me." Nah, she just doesn't like you that much.
Yep. IIRC there was an article where he came out and said that he didn’t really like USC. He didn’t quite word it like that, but that was the gist of it
