A serious coach?

Most told him not to bring Grinch with him to USC.

Everyone told him to fire Grinch last offseason.

If he was a serious coach, he would have fired Grinch last year & USC is probably 11-1 this year with a real DC.

Riley does not care about Defense at all. There are dozens of stories from former players at OU telling how much he ignored Defense & Special Teams at OU.

USC doesn’t have a Special Teams coach.
Riley wanted another offensive coach instead.
Let that sink in. A P5, major program, doesn’t have a Special Teams coach.

Riley is anything but serious.

To be fair to Grinch, he was very successful at Wazzu and Ohio State.

Things didn't start going south until he joined Riley's staff.

Florida also doesn’t have a special teams coach. And he’s getting fried for it

Haha it dates all the way back to when Rees was a player at ND. Of course he was very polarizing back then too- I was adamant that he sucked but another faction thought he was great because he was 12-2 at some point as a starter.

Some mod put "Tommy 12-2" as a joke and I never tried to change it

Not sure why everyone thinks Riley canning Grinch is some sort of model for Marcus to get rid of Parker. It took Riley 4 1/2 years including the 3 at OU to realize Grinch sucks. The bigger issue, as others have mentioned, is that Riley just doesn't care about much other than scoring points. His philosophy is clearly "if you give up 99 but score 100, you still win," and the folks at Southern Cal are finding out that it's easier to pretend to be a water polo player or crew team member than it is to just outscore everyone without playing a lick of defense.

There was talk not long ago about Riley going to the NFL. Seems like a long time ago but it wasn't.

I can't even imagine there is still interest there now.

The only reason the timing makes sense is the impact of the firing on recruiting. USC was getting to the point where I'm sure opposing teams were using USC's defensive stats to negatively recruit their defensive commits.

ND has a good offensive class coming in... getting those kids signed is the only thing that matters at this point.

Not intentionally, but because we steal their spirit to fight on..
If they beat Us, they get better. Prove me wrong......

Imagine If we had a good OC, and S&C coach....

Harbaugh, Riley, Venables will see another route within a year.... Stealing, and cheating... It's just all around Ugly.

The NCAA will probably give all 3 of them jobs... reviewing the targeting penalty...
