Comment from that link mentioning Helton ending up at Bama as an asst.

"they have so many head coaches at this point Helton will probably scanning tickets outside Bryant-Denny" lol

Rumor I've seen on a few SCum boards was that Price took a swing at Helton.

There are also rumors that a ton of players are going to transfer.

Burn.

The beard was on this...didn't see it

Well this isn't working out. Helton was supposed to be just good enough to lead them to 8-5/9-4/10-3 seasons for the next 5 years.

Now he'll get canned and Herman walks into a gold mine back home. Imagine having SC's typical westcoast clout combined with his 20 years of recruiting Texas...

Folks, this is a big, hot & steamy bag of No Bueno.

Damn you Helton... couldn't keep it together until Herman got a big job, could you?

Never know, I think they might still give him a year or two more. Won't be a good look 4 coaches in 5 years.

Be a worse look passing on local guy who's the #1 coaching prospect in the game.

Who knows, he may want to stay in Texas? Fertitta might make him a deal he can't refuse.

USC loses with eight men on the field

Sources said there was a minor incident involving Price and a football staff member after the Stanford game. Inside the football program, it was felt the incident was embellished by the staff member.

It was also widely known that Price, who is from Georgia, felt homesick. So his departure is not a big surprise.

One source said Helton did tell the team that if anyone wants to transfer, he would be happy to sign the papers.

USC had eight men on the field for an extra point more than once against Stanford. Seriously.

“Some guys were not paying attention,” special teams coach John Baxter said. “They’ve all been fired.”

I get that Herman is from that area, but I'm sorry, what up and coming hot commodity head coach is going to touch USC right now? You're basically asking to deep six your career right there. Kiffin, Sark and Helton have all flamed out within 4 years of each other.

It's clear that there are serious issues with that program outside of just the head coach. The fact that a kid is swinging at the head coach is apparent of that. I don't recall anyone taking a swing at Weis in 2007, or Ty Willhejustgtfo-ingham in 2003. Something tells me there's more to the issues in South Central than just the main ball coach.

Given they're now 1-3 and the program morale seems to be declining every week, I have my doubts. I just think Utah isn't good, but did enough to win it against a mess of a USC squad.

No one took a swing at him. That rumor was false.

Things are screwed up over there, big time, I agree. But a great coach can turn that program around, just like it has been done at other traditional giants who have struggled big-time. None of their 3 previous coaches should have been hired in the first place, so any great coach wouldn't be afraid of "deep sixing their career" by taking a top 5 college football job.

Yep. But let's not forget that every time southern cal has had a string of success, they wind up on probation. In other words, they're only good when they cheat. That's who they are. Mediocrity (e.g. under Ted Tollner, Larry Smith, Paul Hackett, Lane Kiffin, etc...) is really the norm for that program unless they break the rules.

Just seems like USC has issues beyond the coaching staff. The people in charge, the board members, alum, etc. Even when ND was at it's lowest point under Davie, Willingham and Weis, there weren't spiraling rumors about punchouts on coaches or a mass exodus of transfers. The former was apparently false, but it wouldn't surprise me if we end up seeing a mass transfer in the not-to-distant future.

We did the same thing.....not Go for it and punt against msu and trust your defense....something nd and usc shouldn't do

USC's was infinitely worse though, given down & distance and field location. That was a fireable decision, math says ABSOLUTELY GO FOR IT every time.

Does BVG get shitcanned this year? If so, ND without a doubt.

Can't imagine BVG lasts past this season. I think USC makes a homerun hire like Hermann at the end of the season. With an elite coach they could make playoffs within 3 or 4 years so thats the timeframe I would think ND needs to reach playoffs to be before Trojans.

He will be able to pick his job as long as Les keeps struggling.
