Per wiltfong we are evaluating TE's for2016 not saying we will offer but it's happening

Noah Davis from St. X in Cincy makes sense for an attainable player if we really want a 2016 TE. Currently a MSU commit.

Albert Okwuegbunam, a Mizzou commit from Springfield, IL goes to a catholic school so maybe him too.

I doubt we offer a te at this point but always need to evaluate a backup plan.

So basically it appears that DROB and Jonathan Jones are the only two possible commits left on board for the rest of the class?

Or are there any potential flips out there, besides Johnson from Michigan (unlikely)?

Are we that positive that Kelly is gone? Stranger things have happened.

Caleb and his mom are clearly just throwing everyone off their scent. Kid has been all ND for a month. At least that's what the unflinchingly optimistic leprechaun that lives in my brain keeps telling me.

I just can't fathom not taking Johnson.

We need as many athletes as possible and he has some position flexibility imo.

hopefully he signs with us next Wednesday.

Looking more and more like it'll be Jones only.

I don't think so.

I still think it will be Jones, Kelly, and Robertson and perhaps some late DLine players like Moukwah a few cycles back to fill out the scholarships. Still one week to go.

Given the twists and turns with these guys, I'm not sure if we get all, none or something in between.

A) We won't know what happens, until it happens. In other words, people love saying, "It is what it is!" I like, "It is what it will be, when it is." Actually means something.

B) Give or take any one person on that list and how many wins or losses of a difference is it going to make on next year's schedule? Over the next four? No, we are going (by all reports) to have a stellar recruiting year in '17, and should have a darned good record again next year. That with who we already have, is going to make a much bigger difference, trust me.

Heard the staff is making a late push for Gary.

It's not about one person on the list, it's the cumulative effect of not filling up the scholarships every cycle. It's most certainly creating depth gaps and is affecting our performance. I love this class and our team but the reality is we're not there yet hence the 3 losses and getting embarrassed in the last one. Maybe we handle the war of attrition a little better the last two years if we have 4-5 more guys on the roster at certain positions. Not a fact but certainly can't hurt and absolutely no reason not to.

Agree. Looks like we finish up with Jones.

Maybe we get some 5th transfers to add depth at pass rusher and safety.

Because his family is a headcase but I don't know about him. The staff said thanks but no thanks

A LONGSHOT but booker is seeing him tomorrow or Friday.

Maybe a .29% chance he goes to ND

I'm sorry, but if we finish with Jones only, it's going to be a huge disappointment. Love me some Jones, but JUST Jones vs Jones and Kelly or Jones and Robertson is a big difference when we're so close to getting over the big bowl hump. Those are instant impact players and their lack of signing with ND would be magnified by the fact that we lose Smith and Fuller (w/eligibility remaining mind you- just a little extra salt in the wound, not that either SHOULD HAVE come back). What sucks even more is that we will be under the 85 limit which means we will be forced to extend a 5th year offer to some marginal talent who will be a huge net-negative compared to either Robertson and/or Kelly, even as true frosh.

Here's to hoping a lot of this is smokescreen and we land at least one of the two (Kelly 1st and foremost just because the defense is in much more of dire need of impactful talent).

I absolutely agree. But with the attention some of these cases get, it seems like the one or two we miss, are the whole ball game. Not the fact that we have a pretty impressive class otherwise.

I agree with your point as far as it goes. But help me; it seems as Kelly almost wanted Will Fuller to leave; yet he couldn't work ESB in for more playing time with the clear parameter that he was burning a year of eligibility anyway . . . That list goes on (thinking linebacker - Martini, Coney, Morgan and especially Grace); and don't get me started with defensive linemen covering slot receivers, down field. I mean when you talk about working people in (exactly within the parameters I am speaking) DeShone Kizer shines as the example of a player almost nobody thought could step in and excel; how many others do we have that if prepared a little better could pick up the late season slack?

In other words, there are another hundred things that make you go, hmmm, in the program that contribute to the late season fall off, including the 'demotivation' of starting players. For all that was made of Team 127, I find it shocking that so many are looking for other avenues their senior year. Isn't that usually when it clicks for players? And, guys leaving early, particularly Tuitt and Niklas, that really hurt us in '14.

I won't lay all of this on BK. I think we get in this position all the time is because we don't flood the place with offers like a scUM. I may be wrong, but I suspect BK may be under some guidelines that forbid him to pull offers once extended simply because a better recruit came along. Therefore he and his staff are a little more judicious when putting out offers and always find themselves in this position. IMO getting to 85 is always going to be a challenge.

As well as his own personal goal of avoiding repetition of situations like Tee, and Eddie, and Tyler, and . . .

If we land only Jones I would be extremely disappointed. Yes Jones is a great player, but with transfers and injuries you aren't sure if we will get to 85 by Fall. The way it is looking right now we won't. What surprises me is you haven't seen any late offers go out to players like the last two years to fill up the class.
