So ND sits out the next week and has what should be a managable game vs. Miami on friendly soil in two weeks. The ranks of the unbeaten will diminish as most teams start playing some real opponents for a change. A lot of contenders and pretenders will be sorted.
What games do you like to really help sort out the rankings?
September 29 Key match-ups are pretty slim
#14OSU @ #20 MSU
#25 Baylor @ #9 WVU
Tenn @ #5 UGA - probably a stretch to say Tennessee has a chance to knock #5 down a peg but not much to choose from next week.
October 6th Key match-ups (lots of undefeated teams with a good chance of losing)
Georgia @ South Carolina (Gamecocks follow that up with LSU and Florida the following two weeks) - Someone's got to lose, right?
LSU @ Florida (Florida finishes the season @ FSU providing one of FSU's only challenges)
West Virginia @ Texas (Texas plays a nuetral site game vs. Oklahoma the following week)
Iowa State @ TCU (yeah, I'm going to call this one for my home state Clones, they will upset one or two teams this year to screw up the Big 12)
Florida, South Carolina and LSU all have a tough three week schedule starting the first week of October, largely playing eachother. The SEC herd should be substantially thinned out in October. Tennessee should be able to knock off one of the four top SEC teams they play (lost to Florida, still play Bama, UGA and South Carolina). As they eat their own, it opens opportunity for us to rise in the rankings.
