personally i'd rather steal tracy howard from florida...imo he's the best in the country for what it's worth and if we landed him we'd have the top 3 corners in this class!!

SURPRISE, it is-----

SURPRISE, it is-----

CYRUS JONES---5-9/183----

CYRUS has Alabama and Auburn as his favorites, but ND 3rd.

He is an big-time athlete and probably one of the guys ND would view
as a slot receive----this years ROBY TOMA. But faster.

Hah... I feel retroactively biased now in my previous cheerleading for 247. Did they rank classes last year? If they did I missed it.

On Further Review

On Further Review

Looked up CYRUS JONES___ Rivals has him at 5-10
Scout has him at 5-11 and ESPN just says he is tall. All say 185.

ESPN also says he is a great RB and WR, but his real position will be CB in college.

Also excellent student.

Looks like a winner on film and he does look tall. ROBY TOMA doesn't have any competition for small slot guy.

You had better knock off the posting and get to work or you will be posting from the Unemployment Office. And that place is busy these days.

Possibly 8 slots left in NDs recruiting class this year...so my predictions:

2 OL - Andrus Peat & Kyle Murphy
2 RB - William Mahone & Byron Marshall
1 WR - Nelson Agholor
1 DB - Shaq Thompson
1 LB - Ifeadi Odenigbo
1 DL - Jarron Jones

I just had the urge to post it - no other ryhme or reason

It is a combination of "great-chances" and "wish listers"

AND in all honesty if ND got these players and Keith Marshall-Noah Spence-DGB want to commit but couldn't I wouldn't be upset --- dead honest

Only one I don't see as a possibility.

I agree with you...and with Beau. I honestly could see that list playing out, except for Agholor. But then again, who knows when it comes to him or our wr/slot guy(s). I wouldn't be shocked to see us only take 1 more OL though, and then use that extra slot for another DL or WR; provided that DL or WR is Spence or DGB.

Beryirish: nice sensible list, and I especially like that it's grounded in reality rather than in some of these "take them all and find room later" style viewpoints. We probably can squeeze 21 and still offer the super-valuable ones of the 5th years.

High-quality prognosticating in this thread.

The magic number is 26 this year. 26 - 13 current commits - 5 "must-have" 5Ys = 8 more scholarships.

I'm not sure if the staff would rather take 2 more OL or an extra DB/ WR. I get the feeling they're comfortable with OL depth right now and would be fine with 14 OL (which is what we'd have if we only take one more) for 2012, whereas we still need more playmakers at DB/WR.

It probably all comes down to who wants in at this point. If two blue-chip OL are ready to verbal, we probably can't turn them down; especially if they're a package deal.

Yeah- I don't really think these are some pie-in-the-sky-predictions at all.

The class may not be everything in the world we think it should be on today's date, but I think the genuine consensus is that we'll close out pretty much entirely with bona fide blue chippers...and that's a very good feeling! The ones to come, plus who we already have on board, will make this a great recruiting class.

I have a feeling that the class may actually end up being 22 or even 23. I have no hard info to base it on, I just kind of think there may be a transfer or 2 at the end of the season. Maybe a WR, OL, or LB (or even a QB) stuck near the bottom of the depth chart. Not at all saying I think Kelly will give an underperformer the Saban treatment, but that a kid will come to that decision on his own. Then again, when it's all said and done, it is tough to pass up a ND degree...especially compared to a degree from State U. So we shall see.

Coach will juggle in one last thing that we don't talk about. we have a small class coming up. He could easily decide to save a scholarship. Remember that an OK 5th year would help the team while vacating his scholarship the year after in the shorter number year.

p.s. GoldenIsThyFame just reported a Twitter which said that Badger may be back for spring ball. If Kelly knows this for certain, he could alter his thinking on how many DBs he needs in this group.

We may be looking at a class as small as 12-15 when this year's juniors graduate, depending on how many are offered 5th years and assuming we don't have an abnormal amount of transfers.

Watt, Z. Martin, and C. Wood are very likely to get 5th years. Fox, Calabrese, Stockton are also eligible and could get consideration. There are only 17 juniors on scholarship, I believe.

I still don't see this happening, for two reasons:
  1. There are still massive holes in the depth chart that have to be addressed. I could see Kelly pocketing a scholarship 2-3 years from now when the depth chart is well-balanced, but it's too risky now.
  2. Joe Schmidt is a preferred walk-on; how do you "save" a scholarship and not give it to him?

p.s. GoldenIsThyFame just reported a Twitter which said that Badger may be back for spring ball. If Kelly knows this for certain, he could alter his thinking on how many DBs he needs in this group.

That would make sense. He'd come in with the 2012 EEs, which would technically count him as a member of the 2011 class; Hardy was the only S recruit we took last cycle, so that would help even things out a bit. Maybe move Prosise to WR and that 3:s: logjam of 2012 Ss doesn't look so problematic anymore.

Wood, J. Golic, Eifert, Watt, Z. Martin, Stockton, Calabrese, and Fox are all eligible. It's early to be calling this sort of thing, but I think they all get asked back except for Golic and Stockton. That means we could take 15 in the 2013 cycle, assuming no one transfers.

I thought Eifert played against Nevada, which would mean 2009 would count against his eligibility.

You're right. Ran out for a few snaps, but didn't catch anything and didn't play in any other games during the 2009.

Still, I've seen Eifert listed as being eligible for a 5Y in a couple places. I hope Weis didn't burn a whole year of the kid's eligibility for nothing.

He did but got hurt. If you play under a certain amount of snaps and get injured it counts as a medical redshirt

That's what I thought. Wasn't it a nasty back injury? There's nothing about it on Eifert's ND profile though.

OK, so that is what I missed. Didn't realize there was a medical issue involved. If I'm not mistaken, that has to be applied for and granted by the NCAA, right?

Yes, but it's virtually guaranteed in Eifert's situation-- minimal snaps played in the first game of the season followed by a season-ending injury.

Bery Irish's list

Bery Irish's list

Byron Marshall and Jarron Jones are the best bets-----
all the rest are maybes. No way ND gets half of them.
Coach Kelly would settle for 1/2 I'm sure.

There are lots more out there in the bushes. When the HS season
starts some guys will jump up and become stars in the making.
