It's between us and Stanford if I remember correctly. He's another freak athlete that could play TE or DE. Not sure we need him in this class anymore with Lynch, Tuitt, Carrico, Rabasa (OLB/DE) and Springmann. One (Carrico/Springmann) will probably move to the OL. Heck of a prospect though

Not only that but it is the 3rd week of the season.

The staff can focus 70% of their recruiting energy on the 2012 class now. THAT IS WHAT MAKES ME HAPPY.

would prefer us to put that effort in keeping this class in tact. Remember signing day is February

Lots of rumors about Lyons and IShaq right now.

The staff has been slow playing all of the safety prospects recently. If true then the class could close early with Lyons and IShaq finishing off the class

Going by Rivals Class Chart with Daniels committing we are at the 85 max right now. that number includes Floyd, Rudolph, and every 5th year that will likely be coming back, it does not include Ruffer who is non scholarship (but should be after this year).

If indeed IShaq and Lyons do commit we need to lose 3 scholarships from the above.

I would love to get both Lyons and IShaq! This class would be unbelieveable!!! Already this class is outstanding! Could you imagine getting these two guys on board as well. Both of these kids are god kids, smart, and very talented!

We're going to have 3 kickers on scholarship then next year? That seems excessive.

What are the chances we drop one if, hypothetically, we got Ishaq, Lyons and Drew?

Would/can ND drop a kid's scholly just because he didn't make the 1 or 2 deep? It seems both logical, yet very very harsh.

They can, and many universities do (see: the SEC) under the pretext of different reasons other than the 2 deep (academics, medical redshirts, etc). Scholarships are given on a year-by-year basis, not a 4 year basis. But ND wouldn't do that. There would be a firestorm if they ever did, and deservedly so. We can't sell the education and the spiritual aspect of the university to families, and then cut a kid because he's not good enough to crack the 2-deep.

I know at least two soccer players who lost schollies to injury and Brandon Walker had a choice between having surgery on his back and losing his schollie or not having it and keeping the schollie (I don't know the exact specifications of that, just something I heard from a couple people last year). So ND definitely does, and has, taken away schollies.

Do we over-recruit or practice the despicable practices of the SEC, U$C or most southern football factories? Hell no. But we definitely strip schollies for people breaking the rules (i.e. getting caught with a pound of weed) and also occasionally if someone has a career ending injury. But that is just like any other school.

What I really wonder is if someone like Nate Montana who just got put on scholarship or a 5th year who wants to come back but we might not need would or could lose their scholarship. I'm guessing no... but I'm curious how that all works.

The difference being is that these players you mentioned were injured. And Notre Dame would then change the scholie over to an academic one. The sec schools that have done this have the players saying they were not injured when they were told they were going to lose their football scholie.

I hope so but Niklas is taking his time with his recruitment. I think he wants to take his OV for the banquet. Also USC has jumped in now that he is playing OT and he has family there

With the Prestwood decommit, maybe Flavin will finally receive the offer it seems he desperately wants. I know we offered Martin, but I have a soft spot for guys who truly want to be here, and from what I have seen of him he could definately hold his own.

Burtons decommit hurts but if things go our way could work out for the better

IShaq and French are both high on ND
Scarlett plans to visit and could play OLB
Drew's name is still out there but thats a long shot

Lyons appears to have cooled on us (so much for the mythical silent) ND needs another Safety in this class

Niklas and Martin could also join the class at OT with a outside shot of Prestwood coming back

Maybe it's just me, but if I'm a stud safety I'd be drooling at the chance to go to ND. You'd be competing for playing time from day 1.

apparently it is just you because I don't see any stud safeties in ND's class this year. :)

Yeah I agree with you, because at our serious lack of depth at that position it would give a prospect a very good chance at early playing time.

It suprises me that FSU was able to pull 3 of the top 10 safeties accoring to ESPN. Thats an amazing safety class. I would love to have just one.

You are not lying about that. But now After last nights lost they might lose someone and decommit.

Agreed. It's weird considering Ndewkwe, Zibby and Sergio are all in the pros now that we have such a drop off in talent this year. I consider safety our only true position of need we have left.

I agree but I really think we are on the outside looking in this year. Lyons has cooled on ND over the past few weeks and he looks to be a longshot at this point. As far as Aldidge, I believe ND stopped recruiting him due to lack of interest. I think we can make it one more year without a solid safety prospect but its pushing it.
