Even more off topic not all video boards are "jumbotron". That is a brand name.

50 million vbucks to the first person which confirms this turf rumor to be true or false.

I'll triple it.

Jumbotron has become synonymous with giant video boards. I don't care so much about the board, please do not put the ads up everywhere.

Anyone know when this full stadium renovation is going to happen?

Sort-of Kinda off topic
I thought I had read somewhere that they couldn't expand the stadium because the ground that the stadium was built on couldn't structurally support the weight. Is this true? I know stadium renovations don't necessarily mean expansion, but stadiums are only getting bigger.

I don't think we'll get a full stadium renovation, but a 'Tron is not out of the question for our next expansion. Aside from that, I'm 100% certain we're getting turf, if it hasn't already gone in.

I'm confused about why the University wouldn't let anyone know they were putting in artificial turf. It's a big deal, but at the same time, it's not anything that they would keep secret.

It wouldn't be. We likely would have known ahead of time, if for no other reason than to watch NDNation slowly, yet painfully implode.... The mere thought just gave me a chub.

I walked over today at around 6 30 when the snow had melted. Either they haven't put turf in or it looks horrible. Searched around the stadium for things that look like they may go with turf but just saw a bunch of old pipes and lots of rie bar.(sp?) So I would say for now....Myth Busted!

*sigh* that's too bad. As many people have said, artificial turf has nothing to do with tradition. As long as they don't put any logos on it, I'm excited for it. Not to mention it's much easier to maintain and is better for our team.

Wouldn't give up yet. Putting the turf in is obviously last and is just a small part of the total installation. The heavy lifting is underneath. Just sayin........

I meant all over the Jumbo Tron.

If they do put ads on the jumbotron, I nominate this one for being first.

Off topic but the led board at Wrigley is not a jumbotron and will have no replay capabilities. Just a stat board.

Not to drive it more off topic, but that's what I figured. Man, got excited by the link. Either way, I hope there's a board at ND Stadium sooner rather than later.

I too have heard this same thing. I wonder if that's the case. I really don't care if they expand the seating capacity to make it some ridiculous monstrosity like that in Ann Arbor, but I do care that we have some flexibility to keep the stadium we have and be able to update it in the future.

And I'm with other people on the fact that if they were going to go ahead and do something, it wouldn't be a secret. Why would they hide such a thing that can only bring positive news and more exposure for the program. Regardless of what we think, the players and recruits all love the idea of field turf and a video board. The program is smart enough to make this point well known. So, until they do, I'd imagine the construction we're seeing is just your average run of the mill renovation.

Am I the only one who could take or leave a jumbotron? I understand (though don't necessarily agree) with the reasons for having one, but I won't lie... one of my favorite parts of stepping into ND stadium is that it's like going back in time, I feel like have a big LED screen might ruin that. I wouldn't be mad if they decided to do it, but I've never thought that one was needed when I watched a game in the stadium.

The thing is, if they just focus on having an enormous screen, it could detract from the environment. However, I have faith that the administration could pull it off in such a way that it would only enhance the aura of the stadium. They've done a great job at Purcell and in building Compton and Arlotta. No reason to think they couldn't make it great.

I've wanted one a few times. The student section is in the northwest corner so if a TD occurs on the other side, we usually can't see it and are just operating off of the roars or moans from that side of the stadium. Also, since pretty much every call that is reviewed in the booth is overturned in the opponent's favor, it would be nice to see some of them.

When I posted, I had heard that we were definitely getting it, if we hadn't already. Still under construction / hasn't occurred yet, so me culpa for leading anyone to believe it was in already.

But it will be in for next year's season.

I hope you're right. Just makes too much sense not to. Gotta take advantage of the speed we have on both sides of the ball.
