Idk how they are less deep/admin state than the other options unless deep/admin state is just code for something else.

Outsiders vs Insiders, is my definition of Deep/Admin State. Trump is an outsider, and needs an outsider as VP as well. Anybody who has been in office as a Senator/Representative/Governor need not apply. Obviously there are other deep state/administrative state actors other than politicians, many more. But long term politicians are some of the most corrupted members of the administrative/deep state.

IMO the base is gonna stick with Trump and turn out for Trump regardless. Taking the “high road” is just gonna win more independents. I’ve been saying it since the debate but I think Trump wins in a landslide taking every battleground state and if he picks someone like Rubio (Latinos) or Youngkin (suburbs) he might win sweep everything but the west coast and northeast + Maryland.

Agree, IMO (which doesn't mean a thing), this event will not only solidify his base, but may garner him many who were on the fence. He can use this as a referendum for unity, but also include his major talking points (border, inflation, etc.).

I agree with everything. My only “worry” (more of a thought) is that shootings change people. Putting my social worker hat and working LEOs from local to DHS/ICE… everyone is a bad ass until getting involved in a shooting. It legit changes people. Trump is a guy that has lived in the ivory tower and thinks he’s invincible. Hard to believe he would be unfazed, i’m just curious how this changes Trump in general. And if this incident makes him soft, that’s not what got him here. Probably way too close to the election to even matter anyway.

I'm leaning towards it not effecting him much at all. After all, he stopped and defiantly shook his fist while the SS was trying to get him off the stage.

I now we’re a few days past and moving on, but what an absolute clusterfuck that rally was from a security standpoint. I’ve worked with Secret Service on multiple occasions and the advanced planning is insane. Every detail is accounted for right down to agents watching food be prepared. To have a perimeter where a sniper can get an elevated position from less than 150 yards is appalling. And bless that tiny agent who tried to provide cover but left his head and center mass exposed. I don’t venture into the political discourse because quite frankly, I hate where we are right now. I truly hope DT takes the high road tonight at the convention. Both sides need to tone down the rhetoric. Anyone who didn’t see this coming is blind or flat out stupid.

So Vance is an insider by virtue of being a senator for 18 months, then? But Carson is not an insider for being a cabinet member for four years?

I thought it was gonna be Burgum or maybe Youngkin (if he was willing). Money. Likable. Objectively serious and successful leaders with public and private experience.

Probably a mix of "go along to get along" and maybe some genuine changes in thinking.

He was like 31 when he was hating on DJT. We will see how this goes I guess.

The most generous read on Vance is that he’s playing a bit. He was a completely different guy before he wanted to run for Senate, and then overnight invented a new persona. That’s why I think he’s unpopular on some levels is because people can collectively sniff out “inauthentic” at a surprisingly good clip (it’s also why Kamala Harris and Hillary Clinton are unpopular but people like Bill Clinton and Michelle Obama are not).

Vance spent his entire life positioned one way, and then he decided to run for senate funded by Peter Thiel and went a different way. And it worked, credit to him, and now he’s likely to be VP. So if he’s a smart guy playing to what he thinks will win it tracks on multiple levels.
