This whitewashing and rationionalization of the insurrection by traitors yesterday is exactly why Trumpism will win out in GOP.

It already did win out. None of them have ever cared and even after yesterday most of them still don't. Senator Proud Boy from Missouri is going to fight with Ted Cruz over who gets to take it over. Anyone half way descent will be primaried by Q crazies and they'll lose.

Get ready for Ivanka Trump and or Roger Stone as your new Senator from Florida. Rubio is toast. Anyone want to take bets on Portman in Ohio? Done.

It is a cult of conspiracy theorists. The chickens came home to roost yesterday. They own it.

Seriously, this Grand Canyon-sized irony has been completely side-stepped by the Trump gang.

What I find ironic is the "experts" just told us an election was just swung in Georgia due to the Republican's inability to get the votes to increase the stimulus checks from $600 to $2000. So people voted based on a $1400 increased hand out from the government who is forcing them in to needing the hand out in the first place.

Wow, elected officials wanted to give struggling Americans more money during a pandemic. That's truly horrifying stuff thanks for weighing in with your thoughts.

Taking down the American flag and replacing it with a Trump flag shows these are not patriots, this is a cult and has been from day one. That image will be seared into my brain until I take my last breath. Never did I think I'd see something like this ever happen in my lifetime on American soil.

And for a guy who has gone bankrupt multiple times, married three times, pretends to be a tough guy when he's the whiniest bitch ever to grace America, who idolizes John Gotti and Vladimir Putin.

This isn't a debate about the size and role of government any longer. The people who hitched their wagon to him can fuck off.

Way back in post #28327 Legacy quoted a whole bunch of Michigan politicians who feel individually or constitutionally threatened by direct Michigan crazies. That's my Michigan. We are famous I believe for the herd of Batsh!t Crazy anarchists inhabiting mainly northern parts. They are happy to stick guns in your face and threaten all manner of crap. "Michigan Militias" ALL HAIL! These pieces of filth (from their behaviors that's all I can assess --- they do not seem to simply be freedom-loving I-Got-Rights tribalists) have skirted the law for quite some time. ... and they feel that Trump and his message sounds pretty good to them.

Yes, like Bishop, many Trump supporters are NOT like these explosive anarchists. But these explosive anarchists DO exist. Lots of psychological field work on groups such as this find that there are at least two strongly supported things true about them:
1. they ARE cults. Members of a clan mentality mindlessly following leaders; and,
2. they BREED severely dangerous mentally and morally defective individuals who launch out into the larger society and GOD knows what they ultimately do. Any support that they feel that they are getting from larger-than-life persons like Trump, fires their craziness. (Are they all like this --- no --- save me the bullsh!t remarks.)

As a not-really aside: some of those "appalled" or frightened politicians included two of the equally Batsh!t crazy congresspersons threatening to derail confirmation because Trump said the election was stolen. We had three such whatever-they-ares in the state. The only one not backing up into sanity land (or should I say Moral Land) is an obviously losing-it former general, who doubtless served admirably but now has decided to descend into the Batsh!t in his golden years. ... OH, the uber-slippery Fred Upton ("my" congressperson ... ugh) slimed his way into a emotional pleading-for-order pulpit --- "high road" after the fact as he always plays it.

"Trial by combat" got Auntie MAGA blown off the doors of the senate chamber by Capitol police.

If they were African-Americans storming the capitol to ask police to stop murdering their neighbors during traffic stops, I think you would've seen a lot more bodies hit the floor yesterday.

Peak irony in that the dipshits in the GOP, Donald and the mob were seeking to disenfranchise a couple million people.

The loons taking part yesterday dont think that. They think they have been disenfranchised. Is it rational? Not to you or me, but to them, its clear and obvious. Terrorists, I assume, rarely think they are in the wrong

When it comes to Hawley or Cruz, I'm pretty sure they aren't/ weren't trying to overturn an election. I think they are both far too bright to think that would work and its 95% performance, and operates mostly as a political theater to "expose" what they think are bad/illegal election laws and practices implemented by states last summer and fall.

I'm assuming they operate under the assumption that Biden will be inaugurated, and believed this procedure could be used as a platform to show they'll get to the bottom of a good portion of their bases concerns.

I'm not a politician and have no idea if that's a good idea or a bad one. It looks like it hasn't been particularly effective in the past so I dont see much benefit there unless you think that's the best way to keep the base somewhat satisfied

Seriously, this Grand Canyon-sized irony has been completely side-stepped by the Trump gang.

This was all Antifa?

Yeah the idea that it was antifa was as dumb and lazy as the nonsense from the summer was. Maybe even more dumb and lazy.

Antifa has no reason to do anything bad right now. I'm sure they aren't big Biden supporters but they have zero reason to act out. Their boogeyman has been voted out. For the moment, all should be well in their world.

It's not the vast majority, but it's a shockingly large percentage. The hardcore Trump flank of the Republican party has embraced misinformation and a win-by-any-cost mentality. All they care about is their guy retaining power.

I don't doubt the percentages, but wonder how the poll was conducted? We all know the way these are written and conducted can influence the outcome. The company I work for is about as NRA card carrying Republican as it gets, but I didn't hear one word of approval from any employees on the actions of these idiots while several spoke against it.

I dont think there is much data to support that. This summer when the crowds were...more diverse... there wasn't many killings by city, state, or federal troops/law enforcement.

There was a police precinct burned down without anyone getting shot i think. There was the federal courthouse in Oregon deal that went on for however long without piles of bodies. I dont know the racial makeup of the crowds in those incidents, but they also occurred at night when that information becomes less relevant.

A while back I ran across an article about Michigan far out right wing extremists - not those who planned to kidnap and kill Whitmer - and it seems worth posting subsequent to OMM's post.

Randy Bishop’s profile photo from his now-removed Facebook page.

"Trucker” Randy Bishop, host of “Your Defending Fathers” radio show and leader in Michigan second amendment rights groups, says Facebook has taken down his account.

Facebook has not yet responded to inquiries from IPR about why Bishop’s account was removed. Bishop admits he once communicated with one of the men accused of a terrorist plot against the Governor.

Bishop says his personal and professional pages, as well as political groups he moderates, were removed without warning just after his radio program ended around noon on Friday. Facebook alerted him that he violated community standards.

“I did nothing wrong,” Bishop says. “I’ve never even been placed in Facebook jail.”

Several Facebook pages and groups which Bishop moderated are now unavailable, including the local political group, the Antrim County Conservative Union, the conservative publication, Antrim County Times, and the Antrim County Young Conservatives.

The biggest of the groups he’s an admin for, Michigan 2A for Sanctuary Counties, which had more than 94,000 members, was also shut down. A Facebook representative told Michigan Radio the page was shut down because it violates the website’s policy on “militarized social movements.”

Despite a felony record, which strips Bishop of the right to own a firearm, the radio host has helped people get their counties to pass 2nd Amendment Sanctuary City resolutions. He is close with many militia groups in the state and corresponded with Eric Molitor, who faces state terrorist act and felony weapons charges. (cont)
Prior to election day - it may have been after Whitmer issued a mask mandate or some health restriction, Bishop led a rally which also featured one of the head so the Michigan legislature (heads of both are Republican). At a post-election "Stop the Steal" rally, now Trucker Randy and another organizer warned the Republican leadership after they pointed out Michigan law prevented them from interfering with the eletoral process. Bishop wanted them to "break the law" or "They will never, ever win another election ever in the history of their political career unless they send the Republican electors to the Electoral College." The message from the Michigan lawmakers called to the White House for a meeting with Trump about alleged election fraud was probably the same to him. They could not interfere with the process.

They are literally the tackiest people you would ever come across.

Yet these Redneck booger eaters want the family to hold the presidency like a monarchy.

Can anyone explain to me why? How can someone be so disenfranchised with our systems that they'd want a group of people like Trump and his kids to run the country for decades to come?

Fox News and Breitbart are truly good at what they do.

Our educated betters on the coasts ran the wife of a former President, and plenty would love if Michelle Obama ran for office. Look at the weird sway the Kennedy family had over many as well. Bush family too is quite the dynasty.

All-around pretty dumb idea to want to elevate people solely on their family status (absent genuine aristocratic situations) but it's not a new phenomenon.

The working class likes tacky. Come to the Coal Region sometime, you'll see houses that still have paneling, shag carpets, green laminate countertops, and more.

The issue is, these people were told they were unimportant anymore. Coal is going away, railroads have disappeared, and factories have closed. The government has told these people it's the other guys fault Every. Single. Election. with empty promises. Then HC steps up to the plate, calls them deplorables, and to learn new jobs, go to college, move away, or be poor. Trump tells them they are important, they are the forgotten true Americans. It's easy to believe in someone who wants you.

They believe he really likes them, that he is somehow one of them despite being rich from birth. They see him as a self made man, that he has lived the American dream we all want and desire. He's crude, he's brash, and he isn't PC, therefore he "sounds just like one of us drinking a few beers together."

It is exactly what we DO NOT WANT per the Founders (as much as I hate harkening to them). In 2016, the last two people I wanted were Hilary and Jeb for that very reason. I passed on Hilary in TWO Democratic primaries only to find myself voting for her in a General because...I saw the potential of what could be possible. Some things came to fruition.

Chirst, W ran as an "outsider" in 2000. LOL! He was the son of a President! His grandfather was Prescott, a Senator. Come on.

In a real system, you and I should be able to run. Money talks, though, and it talks even more since Citizens United. It's garbage. I see it at the local level all the way up to DC. Shouldn't be this way. People talk about term limits, but that's not even on the table for me until we get the money out first.

I have West Virginia and Virginia roots, man. My family is there. Steel, some coal, but mostly steel. Most are all moved away now up and down the coasts. My mother graduated HS and took a Greyhound to Indiana at age 18. Alone. She met my dad, whose father came here from Italy at 18 also alone to escape Fascism. This all feels so close to home and full circle for me in many ways.

there were coal miners in Wyoming that go retrained for windmills, solar, etc. Good paying jobs. This training has been offered to so many others and they have said no. Why?

https://www.nytimes.com/2017/05/21/...onment/wind-turbine-job-training-wyoming.html

To me, the misinformation starts with education. Education is the silver bullet. Our schools should be like five star hotels. Our teachers should be respected, well paid and rewarded for results. It should be best and brightest. Period. We have fallen behind on that, and I know because I have many of my appalachian family members who are either in education or have left. Rural, urban, black, white...we're failing our kids. All of them.

I get that he told them they're important and he loves them, but to them he's a city slicker from NYC. How could they possibly in their right minds think this was their guy? The same reason West Virginia sent Jim Justice to Charleston. Wealth worship. Too many people think the American Dream for them is that they'll be rich one day too and their situation is temporary. Only it isn't.

I know a lot of these people and I have known them since I was a child. They won't ace a Physics test, fine, but people call them dumb and I don't think that's true, but you can't help people who don't want to help themselves.

I'm from West Virginia (sat the bench in high school and watched Jerry West pour in 100 points exactly against us in two games --- 49&51.) West Virginians are not dumb in any greater percentages than any other people. But from my youth onwards, WV has consistently showed a LOSS of total population while the entire country (occasionally sans Arkansas or Mississippi) has shown gains.

So, there are two kinds of West Virginians --- those who cannot find work (steel mills long gone; heavy chemicals almost gone; and high-sulfur coal being eliminated by Wyoming etc.) There's nothing else. The Ohio River counties used to be sprinkled with the nicest glass-making companies --- all gone. MOBAY chemical's giant plant mainly at Bayer in Houston now. etc etc etc. So this group leaves.

The second group of people are the ones hanging on. Uprooting your life, home, distancing from what you know and your family's elders and memories --- not just a casual thing. So they hang on. And they get depressed and they gripe. West Virginia is also measured as one of the least happy states in the country. Also most overweight, diabetic, etc.

They fantasize. They want to feel that there's hope. By the way, my experience is NOT that "we" have been told that we're not important nor wanted. "We" ARE told that West Virginia Coal is a Deadman walking, and those involved don't want to hear that. If some vote-grubbing A$$ comes into the state and lies to them about this, that is what they "need" to hear. West Virginia has become nearly the "reddest" state in the union --- by Red/Blue voting.

The West Virginia situation is truly hopeless unless the national government really wanted to bale the state out. They don't of course. It's rather "funny", but the much-maligned Senator Harry Byrd sort of kept the place going unilaterally for years with pork-barrel legislation. Some people think that WV could be in-play to go Blue --- complete BS, unless the Feds come in with gifts of GOLD, and Frankincense and Myrrh to cover up the pork offal smell.

Pelosi just now demanding invocation of 25th amendment or they will impeach.

Pence's office kept them on hold for 25 minutes. That might just be a coincidence.

Not a lot being said about the pipebombs they found yesterday. There were pipebombs, in case anyone didn't know.

Spot on. They were blue not that long ago and have now gone totally red. The population is moving into Ohio in droves, hence Ohio isn't much of a swing state anymore.

Mike, my people are from Brooke County near Weirton. Also St. Mary's and Martinsburg (east panhandle, pratically VA).

Pence's office kept them on hold for 25 minutes. That might just be a coincidence.

Not a lot being said about the pipebombs they found yesterday. There were pipebombs, in case anyone didn't know.

From what I heard, 1 at the RNC, 1 at DNC, maybe a third somewhere else? I was dozing off periodically

As a small business owner, the one positive take away is that an angry mob mad at the government finally took it out on government and not Foot Locker, Walgreens, or any small business.
