I fear that Stanford's imminent loss to Oregon will prevent us from jumping into the top 14 with a win over them. But they do look beatable.

Winning 7 of the last 8, we should be in. Figure #23-#25. Whooping up on BC is all I care about right now though.

I believe there is a certain LB from Ohio that we are recruiting that is witnessing this beat down in Palo Alto.

Oregon makes everyone but the SEC look bad. I doubt this changes much for Odenigbo.

You may be right, but we had enough top recruits witness the Condoms walk into South Bend and put a beating on us, turnabout is fair play. It's only going to get worse out there w Luck gone next year.

YUP....my son is loving it. But, he's only 10, so he's no good to the Irish right now.

Beatable by Oregon, not beatable by us.

And what will he say when the beatdown is on us again in 2 weeks?

EXACTLY...I wouldn't judge our chances based on what Oregon is doing to Stanford...just not an apples comparison.

I hope we beat Stanford, but even then...they will have fallen some...I see no way we make anything higher than ~18...Even if stanford was unblemished, we'd have had to beat them up pretty good to get into the top 15.

I think we have one self inflicted wound too many to make the BCs this year...

Negative much? He won't be there to witness ND v Tree. No guarantee we lose that one.

sorry, i just cant see us making the BCS, even if we upset stanford, going from 20-25 to 14 would be a hell of a stretch

We should at least jump ahead of Auburn, A&M and Texas. WVU and FSU were close too; they'll probably lose soon as well. There's definitely some room there. Hell, Cincinnati and Southern Miss are in there.

I mean even with Boise out of the picture, you have:

LSU
Okie Light
Bama
Oregon
Stanford
Oklahoma
Wisconsin
Nebraska
ACC champ
Big East champ

And Houston lurking like a vulture

that's all 10 spots right there, regardless of what happens.

We are going to need a lot of help, but it is possible. If we beat the tree they drop out of the teams above opening a slot for us. That is assuming we get a lot of teams in front of us to lose. Stanford's loss hurts us, but we are not dead yet. We just need a lot of things to fall our way, as well as, beat BC and Stanford.

I'm as positive as the next guy, but going from unranked to BCS in 2 games is just too far-fetched. We might as well be talking Floyd for Heisman.

We can beat Stanford but we will need a flawless game. Going to be hard to do!

Honestly, (and I may well be in a huge minority here) with our losses to USF, UM, and USC, I don't think we've earned a BCS game this season.

Don't get me wrong, I'd be shocked and elated if we did manage to pull it off, but with our body of work I'm not sure we warrant a berth with three losses.

I'd be more than pleased with winning out, 10-3, with a victory in a New Years Day bowl game.

agreed. i think we're one loss and/or a quality win shy.
i'd be happy with 10-3 with champs sports bowl win going into ireland in 2012.

I agree with the two posts above me. We definitely don't deserve to sneak into the BCS. At that point, I could absolutely understand why people hate ND so much. We need to win out, get a solid win in the Champs Sports Bowl, and carry that momentum to the 2012 season.

BCS basically just became impossible with the Stanford loss. Baylor barely escaping a woeful Kansas team sucks as we probably would've moved our way into the top 25... but yeah, if we're in after beating BC that's about all we can ask for. If Stanford had been undefeated #2 in the country heading into our end of the season game it is no stretch of the imagination to think we could've hopped up to 14 from a ~#20 ranking with an upset... but that's just not feasible anymore.

I think we will be ranked but there is no way we get into the BCS this season. There is no way we will get in with three losses, just not going to happen.

What do you consider close? How about Stanford -13? If ND covers I'll gladly take your vBucks.

Whoa now, I'm pretty sure he was offering them up to me if ND kept it close. Yes, I will take them if game stays close. By the way, I am making no claim that we will make a BCS game. With 3 losses, we have not put ourselves in a position to do so. Love the direction we're headed however. Go Irish.

The two losses at the beginning of the year hurt us way more than the lost to USC. I didn't feel like the USC was that much of a better team than ND. We stunk it up the first half but managed to go into the half only down 1 score. In the second half USC only scored off two fumbles.

Going to a BCS bowl would surprise me but first we need to win against BC. Then worry about Standford. GO IRISH!!!!!

We are a Top 25 team. I'd be surprised if we aren't there this week.

#20 GA Tech lost
#24 Auburn got destroyed
#21 Texas lost to unranked Mizzou
#23 Cinncy lost

TCU was ranked higher then us in the other category and they beat Boise so they will make it. Ohio State lost to Purdue, Florida State won and they had 12 votes to our 4, Arizona State lost, Washington, and Iowa also lost who were "ranked" higher then us. Baylor beat 2-8 Kansas by 1 in OT, WVA beat a ranked Cinncy team, and VA won as well.

We might sneak in at #25.

Depending on who we play, I don't even want to see us in a BCS bowl. I'd much rather play an ACC team in the Champ Sports Bowl than an SEC team in the BCS. We aren't good enough yet for a top tier SEC team, I feel we would probably end up embarrassing ourselves.

I can't disagree with that. We're just not there yet, and losing an ugly game to a team like Oregon or Alabama would do more damage than good. Now, I'd love to go to a BCS game and play someone like Va Tech or the Big East winner, but you know that's not going to happen. If we get into the BCS, we're playing someone in the top 5, guaranteed.

Love the direction the program is headed, but we're still not there yet.
