He stuck around when Kelly bolted. This was a pretty good step for his career. It'll probably lead to a P5 or NFL job, it has for most of the other past OCs.
I get it. I think having a great year with the guys he recruited would have the same exact result. Kelly is what he is, and has a track record of leaving like he did. I think more of my disappointment lies in how the current college landscape and NDs status in it. A coordinator leaving for a HC gig, all good. Even Kelly leaving for a shit ton of money and easier recruiting I get. But a homegrown guy leaving for a lateral position is a tough pill to swallow. That’s on me I guess as a guy who grew up with the Irish being the top of the food chain. I’m sure we will get a great guy in. Honestly I never got the feeling this year of a particularly warm relationship between MF and TR. hard to explain why, just a feeling. Anyway, good luck to everyone, hope it works out for both parties.

Touchdown Tommy becomes Tuscaloosa Tommy.

Wish him the best of luck, I was looking forward to see what he could do with this years offense, but at least he left it in a good place. Hope he does well and comes back to be HC for us.

Given the success of Freeman's other hires, I bet he picks the right person for the job.
does this mean there are now 2 T-Town Tommys?

The more I’ve thought about it, just makes so much sense for Rees. He won’t have to do any recruiting with Sayin in the fold and can focus on the offense. He’ll be there a year or two before he moves on to the NFL or a major HC gig at the P5. Not even mad. I’d welcome Tommy back in the future unlike BK

“SiNcE sAbAn Is dOiNg It iT mUsT bE tHe BeSt ThInG eVer!!!!”

God damn, this fucking line. He’s a great coach, maybe the best, but he’s not a fucking infallible god.
I can’t figure out who I’m more pissed off at,… traitor ass who shan’t be named or ND fans who clearly view us as a third tier program who should bend the knee,… fuck them both

The belief that Notre Dame is cooked because they lost Tommy depends on how replaceable you think Tommy is as a coordinator.

Notre Dame didn't get what Tommy will ultimately end up being. They got an inexperienced OC. They can find someone else who is at that same stage of development, someone who is a finished product or - *shock* - someone with more potential than Tommy. Or they find someone worse! Who's to say!

I'm excited to see how it plays out nearly as much as I'm excited that I don't have to talk about Tommy or read any obnoxious Golic Jr. Tweets defending his roommate anymore.

Except, Kate, he actually gets everything wrong. Just today:

"You might call me a Homer [YA THINK??] for saying this but I predict Tommy will stay at ND because he has so much still to prove here." - Coach Sunny D.... I kid you not.
You really think she was being anything but sarcastic?

It's not going to take an offensive whiz next year to be successful, that much is certain. Whoever comes in will be inheriting one of the most experienced offenses in college football with a good amount of talent. If it was any other team Tommy was defecting to it would be a stupid move, but he's going to a team that's even more loaded complete with 5 star talent. With this team primed to explode on offense next season as they're setup for success I fully expect whoever comes in to knock it out of the park. Lots of idiots will say it's because <insert coach here> is way smarter than Rees, but he's been building to this over the last two seasons with next year's Junior class.

Bruh, what if Tom buries Richard Young in the depth chart for being such a rude fella to his alma mater last year

ND is Applebees? Why the hell do you follow this team if that is your opinion?
Is Outback a better analogy? What do you want? We haven't won the big one in 35 years, haven't won a January 1st bowl since the BCS was established. Those are just the facts, they don't care about your feelings. We've gotten better over the last 5 seasons, but we're still Tier 2. We're not on the same level as the Alabamas yet. Not till we prove it in the big dances.

"...one of the greatest offensive minds in college football."

If anyone believes this and is feeling butt hurt, please put on tape of the OSU, Marshall, Cal, Stanford, and Navy (H2) games.

Pretty confident we can find a suitable replacement able to move the chains a few times up 3 scores vs. Navy.

Hard to look like a great offensive mind when you fly with pigeons.

I keep looking at the news. I am praying for this. Lets get an OC to really open this offense up.

I am concerned that Freeman might go with a run oriented OC. But it is his team and I am happy he will be able to finally decide his own OC.
You can't open up a nonexistent offense.

... thread revealed more than any thread ever on IE for me how many football morons exist on the site.
I added three more "ignores" in the last three days. Hopefully this post will get me ignored by the same posters, then we'll be in idyllic isolated universes.

My opinion: This is NOT a good thing for Notre Dame's continuity and preparation for the upcoming season; Tommy is a MUCH better than ordinary OC and creator; the Bama offensive staff watched the film and said "WOW! Can you imagine what those plays would have done with OUR QBs and WRs!!!" --- and Saban agrees with me.
1000% this.

As someone who does the national marketing for Applebees, thanks for the shout, but ND should never be mentioned in the realm of any QSR. Reality is they’re a Peter Luger’s. Overrated Steakhouse in the current day that used to be amazing.

I think this is great point and I agree with all of it, long term. My concern is that this impacts next seasons offense enough that we limit the upside, once again, of what this team can achieve. Here's to hoping that doesn't happen.

Wouldn't be a Notre Dame season if everything lined up for the team, huh?

Yup. Some here need to turn in their fan card and leave TODAY. This is fuckin ridiculous if you think this program is so shitty then fuck off
Maybe some of us hold Applebees in a higher regard? Don't judge. I could have been mean and said Chipotle.
