What tea leaves are you reading that say Bill Rees could be easily upgraded? Most things I see indicate the opposite.
I don't really remember, I just know I have heard and seen various things on podcasts and boards that they could upgrade the scouting department.

On paper, it's a lateral move but is it really? More money, coaching under an all time great, etc. He is young and if he wants to move up the ladder, this move makes sense.
100% it's a lateral move. It's not a NFL OC or QB job. It's no different than Elko taking the DC job at A&M. We may not be as good as Bama, but we're college blue blood royalty. This is a lateral move.

I could see Mike Yurcich as an option he has ties to Ohio State and probally knows Freeman

I think he would become a HC quicker at ND if that is goal, but he could probably land bigger from Bama. Most OC or DC at Bama stay multiple years.

Getting on the plane means he is as good as gone...never got on the plane for either LSU or Miami.
Interesting tenure Tommy has had, and going to be a big moment in Marcus's tenure on how the next few weeks go with finding his replacement.

I'm cautiously optimistic.
He did for Miami, TBF

He went to Miami and why would he need to go to LSU?

Also yeah this is not a lateral move. I wouldn't blame Rees at all for taking it.

And despite the "we should want guys that Bama wants", I'm totally fine with getting some new blood. Rees wants to be in the NFL anyway, let him go to the springboard that is Bama so he can be in the NFL in '24.

Half the Notre Dame fan base wanted him gone all year, then they complain that he could leave. I would think some of you would be upgrading your resumes, since you had all the answers all year. Here is your chance!! Let Coach Freeman know that you are ready for a call up to the big leagues!!

Tommy was there that night in Miami. He was there at the Rose Bowl in Dallas. If he chooses to go to Bama he’s not a Notre Dame man.

Respectfully, have to disagree.

If he succeeds at Alabama over the next two-three years and continues to show recruiting prowess he will be an NFL offensive coordinator or Power 5 Head Coach by the time he is 33-34 years old.

I don't think you can say Notre Dame has anywhere near the same track record of Steve Sarkisian, Lane Kiffin, Bill O'Brien, Mike Locksley, & Jim McElwain. Regardless if those guys succeed at their next place of employment, they got those jobs in part because of their connection to Nick Saban and the Alabama Program.

It's almost like there are multiple posters with different opinions on here.

Credit CondomsSUC for this........The real reason he may end up at Bama is for the opportunity to stick it to Kelly.

He's literally already on this trajectory at Notre Dame. If he's leaving, it's either for a money grab or he is legit is not happy here.

When your goal is to be the best program, and you consider yourself one of the big boys, that's not good.
Sure but I don’t think that’s the administration’s goal. At least they haven’t acted that way in 30 years. Is what it is. Go Irish.

The only thing I don’t like about this is how late it is. It will be difficult for freeman to get an OC of high calibre. I think Rees will destroy Bama.

That would be a legit argument, but let's evaluate all of those OC's shall we?

Sark - He was a HC at Washington and USC, and coached under Pete Carroll prior to taking a HC gig. He went to Saban because his career flamed out and he's done less than stellar at UT.

Kiffin - Like Sark, was a HC with the Raiders, Tennessee and USC prior to joining Saban's crew and again, coached under Carroll at USC. He also had a very disappointing 3rd year at Ole Miss.

O'Brien - Like Sark and Kiffin, was a HC with Penn State and the Texans prior to joining Saban and coached under Bill Belichick and is now back there after just 1 season.

Locksley - Has been passable at Maryland, but nothing special, and like the other 3, already had a previous HC stint prior to Bama.

McElwain - The one legit brought up OC and while he had a good stint at CSU, he flamed out at Florida.

Hard for me to give a ton of credit to Saban, when 3/5 OCs were ready made and had already ran programs themselves.

Maybe make Stuckey and the RB coach co offensive coordinators and get a good QB coach in. It would be great to have a new QB coach.

Any interest in Dan Mullen if Rees bolts?

Weird dude, but his offenses have been very good. Also has a past with ND (albeit a long time ago).

Brian Daboll was also their OC in 2017. He parlayed that into a job with the Bills in 2018, and an eventual NFL head coaching position with the Giants.

But, Daboll came to Alabama with a ton of previous experience - both positional and offensive coordinator.
