Nicky was playing 4D chess losing to a future member of the SEC that tried to hire him a while back and played like dogshit against a G5 school that went 1-11 last year.
Think Texas fans start chanting SEC SEC SEC if they are beating Washington in the 4th quarter?

They did it during the trophy presentation winning the Big 12 Championship on Saturday.

Why stop there?

"What you noticed right away was how bright he was, how prepared he was, and then you saw how good he was with the players and the way he went about teaching the players," Saban said. "You've seen that play out on the field this year.

"He's transformed our offense. I think he's one of the best coaches in college football."

I'm glad Rees is succeeding. That said, Rees coaching under Saban is totally different than Rees coaching under Kelly or Freeman. We didn't have Rees under Saban, obviously, so talking about how we "let him leave" doesn't make sense.

And ND was miles away from Bama's talent. A middle school coach could win with that talent

Rees is in good company considering who has come before him. I’m supposing he’s really getting some major Saban on the job training. He will probably leave Bama and be far ahead of nearly every coach his age.

Just give it up. He’s awesome and at some point I’d love to see him back. Embrace the ND talent.
Given his quick rise and his very young age, I’d be absolutely shocked if he isn’t NDs HC at some point in the next 60 years.

Yes ND did. Rees didn't suddenly become a new coach. We would have heard about the changes he made, etc if that was the case. Instead, Saban even says that who Tommy is, is what got him hired. Rees smoked the interview and has smoked the season.

ND had that coach, and Tommy left, because from an objective view of both sides, it was time for him to move on. I hope he comes back and gets a statue, but if he doesn't, I'm glad he played and coached for ND

Good for Rees. His hard work is paying off. I hope he comes back to ND one day, in one capacity or another. He did his fucking job (as he would say) this year.

He had a pre-recruited QB at Alabama that someone else evaluated; the QB he recruited (Buchner) was not successful at Bama. (Indeed, he passed on JJ McCarthy, as far as I know.) And of course, at Bama, Saban is there to tell him what to do. It's an utterly different situation to ND's situation, where Rees was the one picking QBs and was not being instructed by a HOF coach.

Trading youth for a transfer graduate doesn't solve anything. We're going to have big holes in the coming years, and ND is very strict on transfers even if someone is available. This event will have lasting issues, especially in two years when these players would have been upperclassmen.

He's still a damn good coach.

"I think back to where we were, all the questions about our quarterbacks, whether we were good enough and what our identity was on offense, and you've got to give Coach Rees a lot of credit for pushing the right buttons with everybody, not just me," said Alabama quarterback Jalen Milroe, who went from being benched in Week 3 to finishing sixth in the Heisman Trophy voting.

"He was in the middle of that storm with us and led us out of it. I'm not saying it was easy, but you never saw any panic or anything that made you feel like he didn't have the answers to get us where we are right now."

Also, Tommy Rees didn't magically become a different person this year. That means ND had this coach.

Guessing that clip is why Saban hired him.

Michigan looks more physical than Alabama so far. Maybe even more athletic. Amazing.
Also, Saban couldn't do his legendary thing: totally out-plan his opposing coach given the three week pre-bowl prep period.
Harbaugh (unlikable as he may be) has at the least matched him in this prep.

... second half will be VERY interesting. Can't see how Tommy can pull this out if the OLine keeps giving sacks.

He gets fired right? That was the most inexcusable final play call ever.

That was below Porker level.
