It makes no sense for him to take the NU job, whether now or in five months from now. If he flops at Bama, nobody is going to want him. If Bama does well, he's going to have better opportunities in both college and the NFL. I think Tommy is probably leaning toward NFL OC being his next step. Maybe he'd want the job and maybe he would not, but my guess is he takes a pass if it comes to that because he'll have other options. He's from Lake Forest, he was a GA there, they have high academic standards and ND has high academic standards. These are the easy and obvious dots to connect. Does it usually work out that way?
As for Northwestern, consider what kind of hires they have made in their program:
Gary Barnett, Colorado assistant, first time HC
Randy Walker, Miami OH HC (and former Northwestern RB coach)
Pat Fitzgerald, Northwestern LB Coach/Northwestern alum, first time HC
There is really no way to know what kind of job this is and could be. They've had three HC in the last 30 years. It's the Big Ten, the money is good, there isn't a lot of pressure and the Chicago market is more pro sports than college. There are pros and cons to it but it presently leans more toward a Randy Walker type of hire in my opinion. A MAC/Midwest guy who has HC experience.
