Just hearing Goodman make this comment just ruined my lunch. I have three lasting images of Tommy that have burned in my brain the entire offseason.

1. Watching him drop the ball out of his hands as he drops back to pass against Michigan on the goalline. That was a completely unforced turnover at a critical time.

2. The dual-threat image that will forever burn in my mind was watching him try to run the OPTION against USC. His lack of athletic ability almost got him and the RB trashed. That image could get replayed this year if he starts in 2012.

3. Watching him fall down in the backfield at the Champs Bowl like he was crying "uncle" to the FSU defense. I lost all respect for him at that point. You tuck the ball and lower the shoulder, not drop to the ground like a scared puppy.

I almost forgot an ongoing image that we saw at the big games last year. That was the total deer in the headlights look he had when the camera's would pan in close during those games like USC, Stanford and even BC when he could not figure out what to do as the D dropped 8 players simply begging him to run.

Let's hope that Golson or Hendrix can show up strong at the spring game.

I remember after the S. Florida game last year when people were cursing Jonas Grey, saying how he should never see the field again. If Rees wins the job, he wins the job. He wins it based on how he brings it to practice. He has also done much for the program, regardless.

How could your worst Tommy memory not be the what should have been a walk-in TD against Stanford when he got tackled on the 2. It was like watching a live game in slow motion.

You might as well get your anger out of the way now Jonesman. Rees is Kelly's favorite, even if he wasn't playing well, Kelly would start him. He'll play well against Navy and Purdue and all the optimists and Rees lovers will celebrate until he $hits a brick against scUM and MSU. My only consolation is that he has to graduate after the 2013 season. Maybe then we'll see what Gunner has to offer (if he hasn't transferred).

He just wins games...
Oh, what'll be priceless is after we lose to scUM and Kelly gives us this line: "He's 14-5 (or whatever his record is) - he's a winner".

Rees has two more years.

Truth. I've never been more disgusted than watching Rees' pitiful performance against BC, FSU, Stanford, etc. My basement this upcoming season will be full of stress balls and I'll definitely need a punching bag. Last year against scUM, my brother thought I had a heart attack after the ball fell backwards out of Rees' hands on the two-yard line. I anticipate many more of those moments this season.

No sh*t.

Good lord. I think we've all seen all we need to see on TR. ND coaches included. If he can't do it with Micheal Floyd...he's gonna have a real hard time with our WR core this year against a better schedule.

That was a totally different situation. Anybody who knows football could see how immensely talented Jonas was and how perfect his physique was for a RB - his mentality just wasn't correct. Rees neither has the physical ability or mentality to play QB at any level above a mid-major conference.

Here's the bottom line if Rees starts against Navy, assuming Kelly knows how to coach (which I will assume given his record and where he is at)

-Tommy Rees played the best out of all the QBs in the run up to the season.

So you can look at that in a number of ways. Either Rees worked his behind off to improve and stay ahead of the other QBs or the other QBs didn't work that hard. I don't believe the second option would be true. So to go back to your statement, if Rees does start, he apparently has the physique and mentality to play QB at a level above a mid-major, because he will be doing just that.

Whatever, man. I assumed this was a foregone conclusion a long time ago. It's obvious that Rees is Kelly's favorite or he would have pulled him faster than he pulled Dayne. Rees will start, ND will get ~7 wins, which will give Kelly another year, in which Rees will start again. I assume Hendrix and Golson will transfer and Gunner will have three years of eligibility left. At that point, I'll have some expectations of this team. I told myself if Rees starts, I wouldn't watch the games but I know that's not going to happen. I'll never be able to not watch an ND game. I just feel bad for players like Te'o who could have gone to better teams with decent QBs and played for BCS bowls and NCs. He totally unselfishly comes back to ND for his senior year when he could have been a first-round pick and then coach saddles him with an incompetent QB.

I don't know why we needed another thread for this, but while we're here I'll just repeat something that has been said countless times: Kelly has no incentive to start Rees if he isn't the QB that gives them the best chance to win. If Rees starts it is because none of the other guys beat him out. That may not delight any of us, but it isn't Kelly's or Rees's fault.

I hope Golson wins the job, but he shouldn't just be handed the job because we don't think Rees is good enough. Ditto Hendrix. If those guys aren't ready, we just have to hope that Gunner or Malik is the answer. We certainly have plenty of options. Kelly isn't going to sabotage himself by not going with the best one.

What will people say if Rees starts and we go 9-3, 10-2, or 11-1? I am still holding out hope for Hendrix or Golson, but its not unheard of that a sophomore QB makes a bunch of improves going into his Junior year.

...

It's not a tough concept to grasp. Except for those who feel the need to vent and be vindictive which is why they open the umpteenth thread on the same topic.

The entire post was solid RI.

Don't care if he "performs better in spring" against our own with ZERO pressure....

I saw what I needed to see outta him last year. He's terrilbe. Probably a great young man, but he's not anywhere close to being a college QB for a top level program like ND.

Start a guy that has some fire and will give us a spark and a SHREAD of athletic ablity. I'd rather go 8-4 with that guy, than 8-4 with Rees. Because to be honest.....I think we're in the same boat whomever we start....I just want the more exciting guy on the field with the ablity to create a play. You dont' get that with Tommy.

I want to live more than a couple of decades, so for my sake, I hope it is any of the QBs not name Tommy Rees.

If we are modeling our D after the SEC maybe we admired their mediocre qbs too.

WTF does Rees potentially starting have to do with Te'o returning for his senior season? What, is he not going to catch any touchdown passes now because Tommy can't find him open in the end zone? Oh and I'll let you in on a little secret...Te'o came to Notre Dame before Tommy. There were two 5 star recruits at QB when Te'o committed.

Can these "Rees sucks" threads just die already?

If Te'o had gone to USC, he'd be on a NC-contending team this year. Instead, he came to ND and has been the bright spot on a consistently mediocre team. That's not going to change this year if Rees is QB. And I feel bad for him. The point is, Te'o will anchor a good defense that is BCS-worthy when paired with a competent offense, which will not be the case if Rees starts, which he will.

And like BGIF said, this is just for us whiners to vent. I can't control what Kelly does, and I've been having a $hitty week, and now we hear Goodman saying Rees has been outperforming the others. So yeah, I needed to vent. He's not a good QB and with him starting, I have no hope for more than 7 wins.

I have no idea why Jonesman is compelled to make this same thread every week. Were there not a bunch of other threads where this comment would have fit?

Jonesman - You have became a one dimensional poster. The only thing that you have an actual opinion on is that you don't like Tommy. Have you really "lost all respect" for a young man that suits up for this team? You have to be kidding me with that comment. You don't have to want him as a starter, but why don't you try to at least not disrespect them personally.

Next time you start another "I hate Tommy" thread, I am neg repping you.
