what are the possible reasons NBC could have for keeping him? I don't get it. They have an interest in having a better broadcast. They went out and hired Mayock who is excellent despite the waldo comments. So why? What gives? What's the possible motivation?

I thought Hammond and Mayock were awful yesterday. I thought they did a terrible job of informing us as to who was hurt and any kind of updates.

I'm starting to get used to Hammond. His commentary is horrible, but his bland announcing is starting to become synonymous with Saturday afternoons & ND football

Agreed. Also, did anyone else catch Alex Flanagan say from the sidelines that Kelly and Riddick were "going at it"? It's almost like they are reaching for drama and trying to catch Kelly at his worst. During the CBS broadcast with Navy you rarely saw the sidelines.

Tom Hammond is not great. I wanted to go through the television screen for his throat when he chimed in that the db's clutching of Eiffert's jesey shouldn't have been called. BUT, he is better than the color guy CBS used for the Navy game, the one whose anecdotes were more often than not absolutely untrue (Ben Koyack was on defense last year for example)

Let's just get rid of Hammond move Alex upstairs and give me the Irish guy CBS had as a side line reporter.
Then we can work on getting rid of Mayock.

No thanks. Mayock is the best in the business at what he does. Swap out Hammond with someone like Al Michaels and I'll be on Cloud 9.

Thanks for bumping this thread so I can at least know I didn't have to listen to Mrs. Doubtfire since I was unable to see the game in my area (and I couldn't get the dumb internet feed to work).

NBC needs to wake up and promote their product a little better...
I dont think they want to and furthermore even Mayock seems to be accentuating the opponent more and more. I understand Purdue has some improved personel but is this not Notre Dame saturday-just call it college football saturday-its sure isnt Notre Dame saturday and Hammond is a slouch who's presence has been worn out. Not a good presentation by any stretch. Hard to build momentum nationally when the announcers are somewhat lackluster.

so how can we possibly get Hammond out? i have to say i really like Mayock, but he didn't bring his A game against Purdue. hopefully he can show a little more enthusiasm against Michigan.

Everyone is entitled. I think he's an ND alum, I maybe mistaken. He's better than Hammond.

I agree I love Gus Johnson for March Madness.. on the other hand I wasn't too impressed with the pre game with Erin Andrews, Joey Harrington, and Eddie George.

Gus Johnson is just cool, works well with Davis because Davis is a bit stiff but he really knows the game. Didn't watch the pre-game but I haven't been too impressed with Eddie George as a commentator so far.

Did anybody else notice that Hammond seemed like he was really trying to be more exciting about the plays?

Yeah, but one of many problems I have noticed with him is....

It is literally like a 4 second delay for him to say whether or not ND made a field goal/got a first down/recovered a fumble/scored a TD

And I mean in OBVIOUS situations...

It's ridiculous.
