Anyone else think the US women's beach volleyball team of Sponcil-Claes got railroaded during the challenge review?

Big time, but to be honest they set themselves up. After getting that big lead they shouldn't have been in that position. Their inexperience was telling. Don't know what she said to the ref, but the yellow card seemed out of line and that took the last bit of wind out of their sails.

Have to think that penalty was bullshit. Seen it all kinds of ways and cant wrap my head around how it was a penalty. They shouldnt have been in that position anyway against Canada. Been towing a tight line all tourney.

Yeah, they haven't been playing like they normally do. They played like they could simply take the field and win.

Yeah, it's like they said, you can't lose to Canada.

This team is old though. It's time for new blood. Rapinoe is 36. There is a 39 year old and bunch over 30.

Team USA and Notre Dame Alum Molly Seidel just took Bronze in the marathon, only the 3rd marathon she has ever run. Amazing

The US wins the most gold medals, surpassing China. The US wins the most silver. And the most bronze.

Maybe now people will stop complaining about the US being listed on top of the scoreboard.

Loved seeing men and women win gold in basketball. As it should be. USA Men's Basketball needs to make some changes, however, if they are going to win again in Paris.

Disappointed about baseball, but kind of expected Japan to win gold. Good effort nevertheless. Still fond memories of 2000 Sydney team winning Gold with Lasorda.

Was happy to have won the most medals in light of everything going on in the world and the circumstances of the logistics. Onto Paris 2024.

It's going to get tougher until the best decide to play in the Olympics. Not knocking the women, but they have a distinct advantage. The best players are all from the U.S., whereas the best men are from all around the world. To keep winning, the men need the best to play so the roster is deeper than the other countries. That's where the advantage is now.

IDK... the fact the US still one with the team they put out there says to me, USA basketball is still ahead by a lot. That had to have been one of the weakest teams we put out there outside of Durant and maybe Lililard in a long time.

For USA Basketball to stay on top they need to get the NBA out of their way. The season running straight into the Olympics was absurd. There is no rest for players, and too many top players hurt. There were 10 Americans who made All-NBA teams and only one of them -- Damian Lillard -- was on Team USA. Bradley Beal was forced to miss because of COVID or it would've been two. We aren't sending our best, and sadly it's mostly the fault of Nike and the NBA.

Looking ahead to Paris, they need AD or another true post player to step up. If Rudy Goebert could shoot free throws, France would've won again. They also need to get the next generation of stars involved.

Leonard
Randle
Davis
Zion
Mitchell

All need to be on the next team. You add that to returning players like Holliday, Booker, Adebayo, Tatum, etc. and you'll have the best team again. But the Achilles' Heel that France almost exploited is that this Team USA was flawed without true bigs. If Goebert or Jokic ever get a better supporting cast... watch out.

I don't like removing baseball. I can see the argument for breakdancing. Call it "ground gymnastics" and in a vaccum where we don't have preconceived notions about what is an Olympic sport it seems way more athletically involved than rhythmic gymnastics with the streamers and the juggling.

It's a balance. I originally thought that she "quit" on her team when it happened day of. Given what I subsequently learned about the twisties, I think that take is a bit unfair. That said, the OpEds on the other end of the spectrum labeling her a hero for dropping out are equally absurd.

Ultimately, she dropped out because she wasn't ready to compete. It is what it is. I'm more in the camp that she kind of choked given the stage and timing of all this; but whatever, she's still the GOAT.

Also, side note, I think her communication of it all was handled poorly from a PR perspective. She should have been more descriptive about what was going on rather than just saying "mental health issues."

I think she just said mental health issues because admitting to having the twisties is bad juju. It's like talking about having the yips.
