Wait until Augusta.

When Tiger was at Stanford and he was invited to play in the Masters he prepared for the greens by practicing on the Stanford basketball court. Yes, Augusta's greens must be pretty damn fast.

I came across some numbers that are pretty remarkable that I wanted to share. Even though Tiger has been in a "slump" the last few years his career win percentage is astonishing.

"That said, if we use Woods’ 76th career PGA Tour win as an occasion to compare and contrast with the exploits of Nicklaus in all events, as opposed to just majors, it isn’t a fair fight. As already mentioned, Woods owns a 26.9 percent win rate as a professional. Nicklaus finished with a career percentage of 12.7, which although brilliant in its own right, looks paltry by comparison. Include only the years through his 37th birthday – Woods’ age right now – and the number is a much more impressive 19.9 percent, though it’s still a far cry from the only man in modern history who owns a better number."

"Now, it’s perfectly acceptable to claim that Woods’ full body of PGA Tour work be compared not with Nicklaus, but Sam Snead, the only man who owns a higher career victory total. Fair enough.

That doesn’t mean, though, that Woods will appear any less dominant. Here’s the only statistic you need to know for this comparison: Snead won his 76th career title the same week he turned 46 years old. Tiger was 37 years, 2 months and 10 days on Sunday, which means he could fail to win another tournament through the end of the 2021 season and still remain ahead of Slammin’ Sam’s victory pace."

The real number is 18 majors and Tiger has a lot of work to do to get to 18. However, a 26.9% win rate as a professional is really remarkable.

Thanks for that. I knew about his winning percentage, but the fact that he could remain on pace with Sam Snead and not win until 2021 is amazing. Albeit sick, Tiger's real goal is 18 majors, which is what makes him stay so motivated.

Although I am optimistic about the Masters, I think Tiger's best opportunity this year is the U.S. Open. That tourney is such a grind and you have to stay so patient. Tiger has mastered this ability, and as long as he stays in the mix I think he can run away there. Nevertheless, I am hoping Tiger comes out strong at Bay Hill and can scoop the Masters.

Don't understand the logic of the bolded.

The Masters is the major most in Tiger's wheelhouse: very forgiving off the tee, tough approach shots that require being on the correct side of the hole or getting up-and-down efficiently, and tough/fast greens (which he has been good with in the past, but still seems to be struggling with somewhat).

Merion (US Open) is a tighter course with thick rough which will cause Tiger considerable trouble if he can't get his driver straightened out. I also am of the opinion that Tiger's mental strength is still one of the things he is trying to recover; I think his physical abilities are pretty much fully recovered but he still hasn't shown the knack for consistently putting his foot on his opponents' throats like he did in the past - he may never get back to that level.

So if you are having kids and still planning to mess around, and all indications are he was never going to dump his blackbook, why get married? You can have kids without being married.

He married a hot white chick so that they would let him into Augusta...

My logic is that Merion Golf club plays just around 7000 yards. Shorter, which instinctively would make you think that it brings more guys into contention. It will, but will also allow Tiger to put his 5 wood in the bag like he did at Doral, or to hit his 2 and 3 iron stingers off the tee. His stinger is literally waist high, goes about 270-280, and RARELY misses the fairway.

This, combined with the fact that the U.S. Open is always a tournament where you have to be patient, makes me think he will have a good chance. Also, Merion has crazy small greens, and tigers accuracy on display last weekend makes me think he do well there.

I agree that the Masters suits Tig's playing style, and I don't disagree that he is the favorite there (Vegas thinks so too). This is just my opinion.

Much of the same was said about Olympic last year. He had a good first round, but then his game (much of it the mental side) wasn't there for him, and his talent alone couldn't bail him out. You are obviously entitled to your opinion, and may prove to be correct, but this past weekend may not be different than Memorial last year. He does still need to prove that week-in-and-out he can play at this level, and he really hasn't done that (including to himself) yet. In truth, he was a few yards away from dumping it in the water on his 3rd/approach at 18 on Sunday, and dropping him into a playoff with Stricker.

I just don't see him displaying the ability to grind through a US Open at this point. I would never say 'never' with the guy, but if I had to put money on him for a major, it would always be the Masters first.

He has a 50% winning percentage this year, and had the most birdies of any player at Doral. I don't know what else he needs to do. "Week in and week out" doesn't apply to Tiger, b/c he doesn't play every week.

If he bombs at Bay Hill I will be singing a different tune.

Very few players play every week; maybe I should have clarified that I was speaking of the weeks when he does play (ie. tournament-in-and-tournament-out), but didn't think I needed to be that precise.

He has won twice this year out of 5 events, yes, but has also: lost out in the first round at the match play, missed the cut in Abu Dhbai, and didn't play extremely well in the Honda Classic. He has a good record (as was noted often during the weekend) at Doral, it is obviously a course he is comfortable with. Merion is a course where he I can't imagine he has played often (if at all).

Again, you may be misreading my point: it is not that he has NO chance at the US Open, but that of the two majors that you listed history would favor him having a better chance to win the Masters.

It's my understanding that no one has played Merion; it hasn't been home to a big tournament since like the 1980s.

I see your point, and hey, I'm rooting for him to win both, so I hope both of us are right.

From Tiger's Facebook:

This season has been great so far and I'm happy with my wins at Torrey and Doral. Something nice that's happened off the course was meeting Lindsey Vonn. Lindsey and I have been friends for some time, but over the last few months we have become very close and are now dating. We thank you for your support and for respecting our privacy. We want to continue our relationship, privately, as an ordinary couple and continue to compete as athletes.

Not a surprise at all. They had been rumored to be dating for a while I think. He sent his private jet to pick her up when she suffered her bad injury a month or so ago.

Hmmm, she looks familiar...what did Elin look like?

Blonde? Check. Blue eyes? (Well, Lindsey's may be green, can't tell for sure) Check. Dimples? Check. Similar facial features? Check. Anyway, just an observation, thought they resembled each other a bit.

Gonna be interesting. He's the best player on the planet but he can still get a little loose. He's not to 2000 form, not yet anyway. Fowler has something to prove and he can get hot.

Weather can make it interesting.

Ricky is a bit loose with his game yet...... With time, he's going to be awesome. Stood next to him at Firestone and he's a friggin' midget, but love his game. Love the fact that there are guys to take over once Tiger/Phat Phil are gone.

I think his rebound is all about the punani...
Good times.

He's been back except for his putting. He's getting his putting back now and once that happens it's over for Jack's record. Tomorrow is a lock vs. Ricky at Bay Hill and I guarantee he wins The Masters this year. He's been in the mix the last few years and putted terrible. I'll put 1 million vBucks on him winning this year at Augusta. I am also predicting 2 majors this season. Yeah.. I said it. It was never a matter of "if" but "when" with me.

Mushroom bruising will commence early this afternoon. Tiger will take #8 at Bay Hill.
