Yeah, I tend to wear them year round, so a thin shirt is like wearing almost nothing in Winter

oh yeah total understand.

I tend to wear the shirt to games only. so its good for first half the schedule roughly.

By the last game Im full carhart/hats/gloves/etc. and the shirts fabric is null.

More than anything the fact they went to a part-polyester shirt just feels cheap imo. The shirt just feels flimsy like it won't hold up to a few seasons of wear. Polyester does tend to be cheaper than cotton too, so it feels like the university is scrimping here. I'd rather they increase the price of the shirt if they're trying to make more money for the students, rather than reduce the quality of the shirt.

I will say there was like a two year period when they had switched vendors and it was 100% cotton that it felt like a rock.

I am guessing that is based on the quality of cotton used.

I don't even remember last years material. I think I finally gave up after having bought the previous 5+ years worth where the fit and the fabric were just awful. Maybe if I get to feel and try it on first I will buy it, but I will never order one again without that.

With that said, I do like this year's design more than any I recall in recent history.

You would be surprised at the length and time that goes into getting things approved. Notre Dame is a brand and things can't be shorted. That leads to lawsuits.

I think the tribute to Father Ted was well done in this case too. I understand he is an influencial figure, but at the same time Notre Dame is about the whole vs one.

I'm well aware of the ND brand, what/who defined/embodies the brand more than Fr. Ted? He's as responsible as much as anyone ever for the schools overall identity. How can something more significant that what they did with the "Fr. Ted" monogram be a bad thing? ND will always be greater than the sum of it's parts, great institutions always are but like i said above, Father Ted is the "one" that made ND the "whole" package it is today.

Didn't he just say that they did make it happen?

Yes. With a very small.... Fr. Ted on the tip of the already small pendant, which was placed prominently on one sleeve instead of on the chest or the back.

He's clearly established his own narrative and can't appreciate the good in what HAS been done here. Just let him have his cake...

Hard to believe I'd get any blowback over saying that it would have been appropriate for the University to incorporate more of Father Ted into this years 'The Shirt'. I love the shirt as is, already ordered it. I simply felt something more honorable could have been done regarding Father Ted in it's design. If they needed an extra month then they could have taken it and released the shirts at the end of May... two months? The end of June would have been fine.

I think this picture done in pencil portrait would have been nice on the front or back:

Hesburgh-date-unknown.jpg

With somethiing like the following reading underneath:

Faith

Service

Leadership

It's my opinion, doesn't mean I think the somebody should be fired over it or that it's that big of a deal. Just would have been a nicer way to honor the man who shaped the university that we all love.

The tiny gesture to Father Ted was fine.

I'm not sure some huge picture of his face or turning The Shirt into a memorial for him really fits what they're trying to go for anyway. Even if your heart is in the right place it doesn't feel right to me. This is a football shirt for the students and fans.

I'm certain Father Ted wouldn't want his face over The Shirt, and I'm also sure the University leadership and CSC brothers wouldn't be all that comfortable doing something like that, as well. It's just not in their style.

I think the initials on the tip of the pendant is perfect.

I pre-ordered mine and look forward to getting it. The design is a 30's-40's throwback. I lost count, but I thing I have the last 17-18.
