Grahambo, Liam and your family are in my thoughts and prayers. My cousin recently went through a near-identical situation with his son. Like your Liam, young Daniel is a strong, wee man and is nothing short of a miracle. Sad (and grateful) that it takes these sort of challenges to give us perspective and appreciation. All the best!

Geez what a story Grahambo. Give the little guy a high five from all of us, what a fighter. I was waiting for a sad ending to that story the whole way through, i'm so glad everything seems to be trending in the right direction.

Welcome back!

Wow, what a tale -- god bless. I really admire you and your wife's strength through the whole process, and especially the fight and spirit in little Liam.

As an aside, one of my very good friends works in the PICU at CHOP. Perhaps she met you and your family.

Thank you for sharing - all the best to you, Liam, your wife and your family. Very glad he is doing well and enrolling in a program like CHoP will undoubtedly produce a new wave of advances and innovations that will help others in his similar situation survive.

Aptly named

Aptly named

Liam
Strong-willed warrior and protector. It's a shorter form of the Irish name Uilliam, which originated from the Frankish Willahelm, meaning "helmet of will." It's also a shortened version of "William." Well-known Liams: Liam Neeson, Liam Hemsworth, and Liam Grahambo.

Appreciate the well wishes Fam but really, Liam has done all the work. I'm just trying to provide him the tools to survive.

Also, insurance companies are a pain in the ass.

I'll try to get some pictures up on here and you can see the difference in him.

WOW! A brave young man, and parents that are amazing too! I wish all of you the best and continued improvement and a long and happy life.

Now, will he be wearing #5 or #7 at Notre Dame? :)

Grahambo, thanks for sharing. Your story is touching and I don't even know you personally. I'm sure your example has an impact not only on your children and family (and this will last for years to come), but also your neighbors and friends. Keep the faith, know that we are all pulling/praying for you guys to keep getting better. No one should ever have to go through these types of things, but I'm glad that it happened to a family that will grow from it and strengthen themselves, rather than shrivel up, blame, and complain through the whole process.

I wish for nothing but the best for you guys.

At the rate that Grahambo is packing the pounds on him, he will be #75! :wink:

Got damn, what a story...we had a number of issues with our 2nd child, but nothing like what you've gone through. He spent two weeks in NICU despite being a mostly happy and healthy 11 lbs boy, but unfortunately we didn't have the awesome doctors and nurses you did. A number of foul ups and missed diagnosis were the reason he spent so long in the NICU. What started as a low blood sugar issue due to a missed gestational diabetes diagnosis turned into an infection from the IV they gave for the blood sugar...and pulmonary hypertension to go along with the infection. They had to put the damn IV in his head after that cause they screwed up putting it in both arms. There was a comedy of errors to go along with all of that, all which contributed to extending his stay. I completely agree on the insurance companies being a pain in the ass. They wanted to stick me with a $40,000+ bill after the ordeal (I think I detailed everything somewhere...probably the Healthcare thread) to which I laughed and said "fuck off."

In any case, I'm glad your son's health care team was better than ours, it sounds like they really were on the ball and I hope a day comes when Liam is able to get off all the machines and medication. It sounds like he's well on his way, and that's pretty awesome.

Prayers for your family.

Prayers for your family.

Gram, a chara,

I am so sorry that I just saw your thread now.

I am weeping. So I'll make it short. Liam is a special name in our family so I guarantee it will do him well.

Remember, way back, we used to talk of the Irish in your families ancestry? Well Liam proves it, that stubborn of a fighter can't be anything else!

I look forward to the day where we can laugh about how that same stubbornness that's doing him well now, so pisses you off! Like when he is a teenager!

I will remember him often, and share your love for him with many, so they can remember him.

METHA
May Liam be filled with loving kindness;
May Liam be healthy and strong;
May Liam be free of all dangers, internal or external.
May Liam be filled with the ease of well being.
May Liam be happy!
