It’s a waste of time to think of all these alternative options, hopefully the administration isn’t dreaming up of unrealistic plans. The simple answer is to get out of the ACC and join the Big Ten as a full member. It would be such a win-win situation for everyone involved except for the ACC. It’s much more important for me to have a fair chance to compete for national championships than to be independent. How many years now will it be for a conference member to be a national champion? Almost 40 straight years? Just think about how long it’s been and we had one of our best chances taken away because we’re independent

The biggest consequence of all has nothing to do with NIL, The Portal, coaching salaries, etc. Once realignment was over and everyone had picked apart the PAC 12, that was going to be the straw that broke the current system. Yesterday was now the end of bowl structure as we know it.

The dissolving of the Pac 12 should not have been allowed to happen. The ACC is likely next. The Big Ten and SEC will take what they want, leave the rest, and the Big 12 might clean up the scraps. At that point, 5 became 3 and a super league is the next step. The G5 are going to be on their own and any ACC schools that don't get picked up are out in the cold.
Promotion/relegation. There would be a lot of hard questions to figure out, but it really seems to me like the best long-term answer.

DP : “nothing in those rooms stay a secret and where Alabama was concerned my source told me Notre Dame was being set up for disappointment.”

that’s a pretty big bomb shell….as I said before moving Bama last week was all a protective measure to get them in no matter what.
Sounds like a RICO case
It was writing on the wall when ND wins by 29 pts. (late night) at Stanford and Bama barely escapes against a 5-win Auburn team, yet Bama jumps ND. It had to be going back and watching their magnificent win AT HOME against a worhtless FCS opponent ... Eastern Illinois. The committee (and ESPN) knew that IF (and deep down could see it coming) that Georgia wups up on Bama, that they could still protect their 'honey child' if they jumped ND. It's a good thing Bama had a strong game against UGA and didn't have less than -3 in rushing throughout the whole game, otherwise, they may have slipped down to 9 1/2th place. FUCK ESPN and the committee bitches! Boycott those fuck heads!

That doesn't answer anything and just creates a new mess. You'd be telling teams that sometimes they are in a good conference and sometimes they are not?

What I can't make sense of is why the committee ranked Bama below ND in the first place if this is where things were going to end up. They had a credible basis for doing so and would have avoided some of this mess.

They started out ranking everyone pretty close to the computer models. Anyone who watched the games could tell we were much better than Bama this year, and the models all reflected that. They figured that many of these issues would work themselves out naturally over the course of the season. That didn't happen, so they had to start making hamfisted last-minute adjustments to ensure the SEC got 5 teams in and the ACC got at least one. That's what happens when ESPN owns the media rights to the SEC and ACC, sources all the money for the playoff, and controls the narrative around this "process." It's just Disney protecting its assets.

Yup, the committee knew Alabama was sucking ass in advance of Saturday.
That's also why they kept them at 9... to play another team sucking ass, and delay the inevitable for one week.

I get it but at the end of the day, he has to negotiate & share space w/ his AD peers. We all want the mic drop moment but AD’s rarely, if ever; give those. I would keen on watching what actions come out of ND vs what PB said on studio shows. One action I will pay close attention to is how much access he allows to ESPN. Will he accept their invite? Would love it if he declined & stayed silent as to why but I suspect he’ll appear on their network soon w/ an ND-friendly moderator

Politics IS a contact sport but behind closed doors most don’t get as bent out of shape over disagreements the way fans/voters do. A lot of it is theatrics even in today’s hyper-divisive landscape. The 2nd biggest trick the Devil ever played was convincing the masses that there’s a nickel’s worth of difference between Republicans & Democrats. That’s the way I see ADs. They’re still gonna golf together & have drinks & be pals whether you like it or not.
Your folksy phrase is fucking nonsense. I have family members currently suffering because of the differences in the parties. My life has been directly and materially impacted by those differences, as well.

I understand the point, because it's not a new one, and they are similar in many important way$. But there are differences and those differences have real impact on people.

Everyone bitching and moaning that Notre Dame isn't in a conference. If ND pulled others schools together to form a new conference as several in this thread have suggested, the bitching would go through the roof. Be careful what you wish for, you might just get it! lol

BTW.....I'm still pissed.
You know what happens if Notre Dame joins a conference? Everyone bitches and moans about Notre Dame. Nothing changes.

Notre Dame hasn’t won shit for 40 years and everyone still acts like they’re Public Enemy #1. You aren’t winning those hearts and minds no matter what you do, so they may as well do whatever it takes to at least have titles for people to be pissed off about.

What a lying snake. There is no bottom for him and the rest of the scumbags in the ACC, all the cucks at ESPN, the twats in the SEC, and the cunts in the CFP committee. They did everything they could to keep ND out and they took an opportunity away from a team that deserved to be there. ND was clearly a top 5 team and a team that could have won it all given their rightful opportunity. For weeks it felt like everyone at ESPN was reading from a script and then what I saw and heard on Saturday not only during football games, but also basketball games was disgraceful. They ramped up their propaganda machine to an all time level and in doing so took away a chance for hard working young men to play for a title without even blinking. They’re all garbage and can fuck off. I hope they rot.

Personally, I'm in the crowd that doesn't want to join a conference. However, this will not come down to us fans. Thekid33 is right that we've flirted with association as a scheduling necessity. Yet, for those wanting to nix independence, I think before we take the eventual knee to this, we should win a title without an official conference. Next year is the shot to do it. Win all our games. Win the title. Then blow everything up with a middle finger that we did it on our terms. We've held off this long. A statement should be made that is positive regarding our independence. History is calling.

Crossing my fingers that the team is qualified to do that. Replacing dudes is always a crapshoot.

1st/2nd round NFL draft pick quality DL x 2 and a WR. That's all I think we need to remove all doubt and shouldn't be oppressive to integrate. Wallet wide open.

The more I see him this week the angrier I am that I didn’t see him at all last week.
We all trusted in the process last week (for the most part)... yes, the committee was clearly protecting Bama, but they had consistently shown and said that they believed that we were better than Miami, even after constant ACC complaints, and we had no reason to believe differently...

Now, the mask is off... we're all angry and we better be out of the ACC soon, or at least get their refs out of our games

I understand that argument but man the red flags should have been going up as the results came in on rivalry week and especially after Bama jumped us in the penultimate ranking.

I dont necessarily disagree but what would it have changed really? The play seemed to be moving Bama up to protect them from falling out after a beat down in the SECCCG coupled with a likely BYU loss. The exact scenario that made the most sense occurred and the CFP just said fuck it anyway.

Bama jumping ND after rivalry week was the clearest evidence the committee had decided bama was in over ND. The bump protected them from a BYU ccg win. BYU would have jumped up and pushed everyone down, put Bama at 11 and out.

Seeing how bama didn't move after the ccg, unlike all but one other ccg loser. Jumping ND was a hedge against BYU

All of the campaigning in the world by Pete B. would have not changed anything. Maybe a more proactive approach would have been nice and good to see, but looking back, once they moved Alabama ahead of us the die was cast. Like Dan Patrick said this morning, the committee was setting us up for disappointment. Perhaps, had UVA held off Duke maybe they would have put us in, but it's clear we were considered the most expendable to a committee made up of several SEC affiliated members and chaired by a man whose football team we rocked so hard he had to fire his coach the next day.

Any word on if ND will pay Freeman the playoff bonus? Would be a great way to continue the goodwill.
