THE Eclipse Of the Century

saw about 70% totality up here in NY, it was cool, but i'm having a hard time understanding how some think this thing was sooo amazing.
saw a massive hourlong lightning storm over the ocean in Carolina once, now that was a sight to see.
maybe seeing the eclipse 100% totality was only way to go?

To put it in food terms, a 70% eclipse is like seeing a pizza place across the street and then judging pizza on that basis. 90% is like being just outside the pizza place. 95% is like being in the pizza place and you can smell it. 99% is seeing the pizza. 100% is eating the pizza.

It's just not the same experience. I've seen partials before, totality was different. The jump from 99.6% to 100% is massive. I know a guy who was at 99.6% at his office, and his experience was completely disjointed from mine.

Things like total eclipses were so dramatic that they started megalithic religions (or at least magnified their power.) Anyone with any spirituality (true spirituality of the heart) should respond to it like you guys did (with one immature exception.) I envy you guys being able to get there in the totality path and enjoy something awesome and rare, and "joining" in some subtle way. I felt some of the awe on the first eclipse I saw as a kid.

I'm super jelly... even at it's height you couldn't tel anything at all was happening in my area.

Yesterday was the last day of my daughter being home before sending her off to college. We live right in the path of totality and it was an awesome day chilling out in the back yard together and having this one last experience before everything changes. It was partly cloudy most of the day but for the couple minutes before, during, and after totality the sky was crystal clear. It was a great day and an awesome experience.
