I could be wrong, but I get the vibe that Costas wants to be remembered & romanticized in the same fashion that fans do w/ Vin Scully, Red Barber, Mel Allen, Ernie Harwell, Jack Buck, etc. Problem is he left baseball behind for the big network events whether it was NBA, NFL or Olympics. No issue with that as you can build a legacy in those realms as well but do risk the threat of getting diluted when you’re everywhere but not known for a particular sport. Again, kudos to him for earning those gigs. Now later in career he’s circling back to baseball but he’s lost his fastball (pun intended) & should probably consider something else or he’ll be remembered for all the wrong reasons.
